From Hogwarts to Strixhaven.
Chapter 347 Torch
Chapter 347 Torch
"It contains a teleportation magic that can be triggered by peeling off the sealing wax."
Ivy gently scraped off the wax on the envelope with a knife and whispered the contents of the envelope.
He is fully prepared and it is time to take on new challenges.
The sealing wax that was pressed into the pattern of the Star of Strixhaven was completely peeled off, and a bright light flashed on the top of the white tower standing in the forbidden forest. Mottled light and shadow came from the other side, and a portal with countless spiritual light radiation on the edge appeared in the air.
Ivy only admired it for a moment before he discovered that a massive amount of magic was overflowing from the portal. It entangled to form something like tentacles, and hurriedly pulled the Hogwarts graduate in.
A bright, vibrant new world filled with magic.
Ivy looked at the metal pole in front of him. It was a very smooth object that must have been maintained regularly. It was more like a tower made entirely of metal than a metal pole.
The top of the metal tower is a disc-like structure that looks more like a torch, serving the purpose of a street lamp during the day - with a bright flame dancing on the top, competing with the two suns higher up.
This was a completely different time and space. Ivy reminded himself again that this was the first time he had ever seen two suns in the sky, and although each one seemed to be as bright as the sun on Earth, it didn't cast any more heat.
Ivy wasn't sure whether this was due to magic or something else. Perhaps the sun in this space and time was not a star in the conventional sense, but just some kind of giant celestial body that emitted light and heat.
Below the torches that served as streetlights was a terrifyingly wide road, the road surface was flat and clean, and at intervals, there were other torches to provide lighting. The road stretched all the way to the end of the horizon - the foot of a deep red mountain range.
Ivy vaguely saw the roofs of some man-made buildings in front of the mountains. This was good news because it meant that the land under his feet still belonged to a planet, or at least some large structure with curvature. Otherwise, with Ivy's eyesight, he should be able to see more than just the mountains and the tops of man-made buildings that protruded from the horizon because of their height.
Looking up at the twin suns above his head again, Ivy walked forward. The man-made buildings in front of the red mountains should be his destination.
"Hello?" A lazy female voice came from behind, and Ivy was startled. Before she spoke, Ivy didn't notice that there was someone around him.
He kept his face calm and turned around calmly.
What appeared before him was a large and magnificent complex of buildings, with towering towers and flat roofs interlaced with each other, each of which showed a considerable level of design. Above these buildings, many jagged stones formed a floating giant arch, and below it was an unusually large cylindrical building, like a wooden barrel filled with wine. Judging from its location, this building was undoubtedly the center of the complex.
"This is your first time in Strixhaven, isn't it?" Although it was a question, the tone couldn't be more certain.
Ivy stopped paying attention to the huge buildings and looked at the young woman in front of him. She was wearing a cloak robe mainly composed of blue and white. Her eyes, which revealed indigo magic aura, were shining from the shadow of the hood with a little smile. Her orange-red hair modified her overall color scheme, which was eye-catching.
There was no doubt that she was a spellcaster, and there was a separate shoulder armor structure on her right shoulder, which now served as a perch. An owl with the same indigo light in its eyes was squatting on it, tilting its head and looking at Ivy together with its owner.
"I didn't expect that the portal of Strixhaven was in the opposite direction." Ivy cleared his throat and introduced himself, showing the opened envelope in his hand. "Ivy Dum, a student from another time and space. Strixhaven sent me an acceptance letter."
"Oh! A freshman from outside Akaivivo! But you don't look like someone who knows even a little about magic..." The woman in front of him looked at Ivy again.
In order to leave a deep impression on his classmates and teachers at Strixhaven, Ivy specially brought out his most beautiful outfit.
He was wearing a star cloak he made himself, which looked like a cloak made up of flowing darkness and stars. After his careful arrangement, the Slytherin snake emblem became a kind constellation printed on the back.
This cloak can turn the damage of any non-magical weapons and projectiles into a harmless flash of light. Even if they are enchanted, Ivy can activate the protective magic of the star cloak to reduce the damage by half.
In addition to this star cloak, Ivy also wore the Ravenclaw crown and the Hufflepuff gold cup, and held the mithril staff from the world of Arda in his hand.
Playing the pig to eat the tiger is a very useful strategy in adventure, but Ivy came to Strixhaven to study. Therefore, a set of valuable magic equipment can highlight his extraordinary temperament. After all, clothes make the man.
No matter what kind of atmosphere the students in this university have, taking the initiative can always help Ivy avoid a lot of unnecessary conflicts and troubles.
"…Forget it. I'm Kemina." Kemina shook her head. "I'm a student counselor, although I'm still an intern."
"Nice to meet you, Kemina. But... only 'Kemina'?" Ivy asked, not knowing whether the woman had no last name or had hidden it for some other reason.
"Yes, it's Kemina. Come with me. Although I'm a trainee counselor, guiding students is one of my responsibilities... I can't tell whether you're here a little late or a little early, but our semester hasn't ended yet, and the summer courses haven't started yet. So the enrollment work..." Kemina turned around and took Ivy into the school. They first passed a very imposing door, or should I say - door frame?
Since this thing has no door panels and the Strixhaven complex has no walls, the hedges around some of the buildings may have served a similar purpose.
Kemina and Ivy stopped under a pergola, which was not far from the gate. "What are we doing now?" Ivy looked around. Behind the pergola were some neatly trimmed bushes, and there were two rows of chairs directly below. If a bus stop sign was added, it would look very much like a bus stop, a magical version of that.
"Wait for the car." Kemina answered briefly, "Teachers and staff always have some privileges. I called a small carriage."
So this really is a magic bus stop, but think about it, Strixhaven is ridiculously large, and if you just rely on walking, it will probably take a long time to travel to and from the classrooms.
It was indeed a carriage, but the only thing related to horses on the carriage was the metal horse head at the front. It was not driven by four horse legs but by two brass wheels that tilted in an eight-shaped pattern. From Ivy's point of view, it was an enlarged version of a magic balance car, and it was also a self-contained carriage. The way to enter the carriage was the stairs extending from the rear of the carriage. Kemina just pulled the handle that looked like a horse's tail, and the stairs appeared automatically.
Apparently that's why Strixhaven made the road so wide and smooth.
After the two sat down in the carriage, the vehicle immediately started to move forward quickly, and Ivy noticed that it did not turn around, but instead swapped the horse's head and tail.
"What did the Dean of Admissions say? We are always recruiting students from the multiverse." Kemina, who was sitting opposite Ivy, tilted her head. The white owl on her shoulder was still staring at Ivy without blinking. "But their way of going to Strijhaven is not as efficient as yours. Crossing the multiverse through teleportation magic is something that only a few people who have studied it can do even here... or those who are more talented."
"I thought it was the teleportation magic added by the Strixhaven Admissions Office to the envelope... From what you said, other students from outside this universe used other methods to get here?" Ivy narrowed his eyes. The magical aura revealed in Kemina's eyes showed that she was not a bad spellcaster, but it was still quite different from Ivy's previous imagination of a situation where nine-rings were everywhere and legends were as numerous as dogs.
Perhaps someone in this magic university particularly wanted to meet Ivy, so they sent him this letter with the nine-ring spell.
Kemina counted on her fingers, "Of course, there are many ways to cross the star realm. In addition to the permanent teleportation arrays distributed in various multiverses, students from Eberron will use ships equipped with magic drives to go to Strixhaven. Last year, a student from the Canis family joined Strixhaven, but I heard that he has not yet decided which college to attend. In addition, there are students who travel through the multiverse on astral beasts. The astral lampreys and veil whales can provide similar services, but the premise is that you can tolerate the taste in their mouths... There are many ways to reach Akavivo. I've even heard of students who survived the Githyanki pirates!"
"Githyanki Pirate?" Ivy finally heard a familiar word. He was also very curious about the part about the students from the "World of Eberron" because he knew that there was a magical power called "Dragon Mark" in that world. However, Ivy was not sure what the "Canis Family" did specifically.
"Yes, they are star pirates, but they don't call it that themselves." Kemina nodded at the students on the roadside. They had arrived at their stop. "Those Githyanki are constantly hunting down the mind flayers across the entire astral plane, but at the same time they will use force to requisition all the supplies they think they need, including magic-driven merchant ships and the people on them."
Mind flayers, or mind suckers, are another familiar term. Ivy has played that annual game, but because the lower city of Baldur's Gate has too many NPCs, he had to wait for the game company to continue to optimize before playing the third chapter of the game. Unfortunately, before that, Ivy had already traveled to Hogwarts as a fifth-year transfer student.
The station looked very busy. The vehicles with more passengers and larger carriages were driven by mechanical beasts, and their metal hooves made clanging sounds on the floor. Perhaps the magic engine driving the wheels was not cost-effective, so Strijhaven chose a more honest and simple driving force for the vehicles carrying students.
There were more and more students on the campus avenue, and Ivy saw many students in red and white school uniforms passing by and heading in the direction they came from. These students were of all kinds of races. In addition to the elves, dwarves, and gnomes that often appeared in the fantasy world, there were also trolls with fangs, long arms and legs, minotaurs covered with short reddish-brown hair, and even tree spirits that were blooming.
Many students knew Kemina, but since Ivy, who exuded a mysterious and wealthy aura, was right next to them, no student stopped to say hello to Kemina. Most of them just waved or nodded, and then whispered to their companions. It was obvious that the content of the conversation was definitely related to Ivy, who was next to the trainee counselor.
"Does Strixhaven often send admission notices to students?" Ivy asked again. He still had doubts about the letter he received.
"For local students in Akavivo, that's right. But for spellcasters from outside this universe, the answer is no." Kemina stopped in front of the barrel building that was magnified hundreds of thousands of times. It was then that Ivy noticed that it had two long side rooms that were larger than the other surrounding buildings. They stopped at the foot of one of them. "We've arrived at Maodian Pavilion. We should go to the student center first."
"This is a library," Ivy said confidently. "I can already smell the aroma of knowledge."
"Yeah, and it's the largest library in the multiverse, housing countless knowledge about magic, mysteries, and the multiverse itself." Kemina smiled.
"Kemina!" came a call from the front.
Ivy looked up and saw that the person who was speaking was a very large owl, or rather, an owlman? But Ivy was sure that this owlman with a pleasant voice was only slightly related to an ordinary owl. After all, in addition to a pair of wings, she also had four claws, and looked no different from all other upright creatures.
"Hi! Mavenda!" Kemina greeted with a smile, "Come to the Maodian Pavilion to complete your work again? To be honest, the evaluation will not be conducted until the beginning of the next semester. You are already too ahead of schedule."
"I want to stay in Strixhaven for the rest of my life, so of course I have to work harder!" Mavenda curved her very kind facial features into a crescent shape, looking very happy. Unlike the students Ivy had met before, she was wearing a black and white robe.
"Ivy, can I call you that?" After seeing Ivy nod, Kemina continued to introduce, "This is Mavenda Sharpbeak, a third-year student from Silver Mill Academy. She is completing her project for the next school year, a long poem with beautiful wording and neat rhythm."
"Hey! You promised to keep it a secret for me!" Mavenda raised her voice, but her expression was still smiling. "Who is this... great wizard next to you? I haven't seen him in school."
"Come on, Mavenda, you must have told this to at least two hundred people." It seems that Kemina and Mavenda have a good relationship. "This is Ivy Doom, a visitor from another universe."
Going to college!
