Chapter 202 Silver Horn and Meteorite
Chapter 202 Silver Horn and Meteorite
Ivy didn't think there was anything wrong with naming his unicorn Golden Horn. At least the name summarized its characteristics well.
The other unicorn that accompanies him in the Room of Requirement is silver, so Ivy named it Silverhorn. This is easy to understand, right?
If only Professor McGonagall could be so reasonable.
In an empty classroom, Ivy introduced the Golden Horn to the Deputy Headmaster of Hogwarts and briefly explained why so many magical creatures appeared in the castle for no reason this school year.
Facing the vice-president's disapproving look, Ivy still said that he would handle the matter as soon as possible.
But for now, he couldn't be sure how these magical creatures appeared in the school.
"Should I be glad that you don't have to attend classes?" Professor McGonagall curled the corners of her mouth downwards. "Well, I will now grant you the power of temporary prefect. You can search all the corners you think possible until the students are completely freed from the shadow of magical creatures."
Ivy accepted the order with pleasure. This appointment did not cause him any inconvenience because he did not have to be busy maintaining order among students in the castle like a formal prefect.
"Okay, let me introduce you. This is Professor Remus Lupin, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor who replaced Lockhart." Professor McGonagall introduced the two of them. "This is Ivy Doom, a transfer student from Hogwarts over a hundred years ago. He is now a fifth-year student. Although he doesn't have to attend classes, you still have to add his name to the list of OWLs for the end of the year, Remus."
"I've long heard of your name, Mr. Doom." Lupin withdrew his eyes from the Golden Horn and extended a hand.
Ivy shook his hand. "Nice to meet you, Professor Lupin. I believe you will be an excellent Defense Against the Dark Arts professor."
The two of them had just started to exchange pleasantries when they had to end it because someone knocked on the door of the empty classroom.
A red head popped in. It was Percy Weasley, Gryffindor prefect.
He obviously didn't expect Ivy to be there: "Uh... Professor McGonagall? I'm afraid there's something I need to tell you..."
"Let me guess, about magical creatures?" Professor McGonagall asked in a nonchalant manner.
"I'm not sure..." Percy replied, and glanced at Ivy who was standing in the middle of the classroom, and the Golden Horn not far behind him.
It was using its golden horn to support a crate against the wall, and seemed very curious about what was inside.
Ivy suspected that this was a bad habit he had passed on to it, because a hundred years ago, Ivy was always keen on opening all the boxes he could see in the castle.
"Go ahead, Mr. Weasley, Mr. Doom is the temporary prefect I appointed to deal with the magical creatures running around in the castle." Professor McGonagall looked a little impatient.
"Well," Percy walked into the empty classroom and closed the door, "some students reported to me that their lunch disappeared, more than one person, it seems that something invisible ate their steaks."
"Invisible beast?" Lupin looked at Ivy.
The latter shrugged and replied, "I would say it was the Thestrals. Only those who have witnessed death can see them. I'm afraid that's why they didn't cause a riot in the auditorium."
There were also some Thestrals that Ivy kept that looked different from their peers. He remembered that he once kept an ivory-white one, which was even more terrifying than those black peers because it looked like a skeleton horse with wings from a distance.
There is a reason why the Thestrals are called the mounts of the god of death. Their skinny bodies are indeed a bit scary.
But they are not undead creatures, that is for sure. They bleed and die, just like any living creature. And among all living creatures, the Thestrals are probably the closest to death. Only those who have encountered death up close can see them.
"When will they disappear?" Lupin pointed to the Golden Horn, which had pulled a piece of parchment from the crate and was chewing it like an ordinary horse, as if it were chewing some kind of tree root.
"I'm not sure. It will exist for a while, but definitely not more than twenty-four hours." Ivy replied. Apart from the runespoor snake and the newly hatched bird snake, he had not found any other magical creatures appearing in the same place multiple times.
"What should we do with it? Just put it in this empty classroom?" Lupin continued.
But this was obviously not a suitable solution, and neither was walking around the castle with Golden Horn. Its golden fur was too conspicuous.
"Oh, don't worry." Ivy took out her wand and tapped Golden Horn, casting a third-level invisibility spell for it. This illusion spell was originally a second-level spell, but today Ivy no longer had second-level and first-level spell slots.
Although wizards' magic is not easy to work on these magical animals that are naturally resistant to magic, DND magic can work smoothly on those willing magical creatures.
As the owner, Ivy was obviously a friendly person of the Golden Horn, so the golden unicorn disappeared in front of everyone the next second, as if it had never appeared.
Of course, the premise is to ignore the parchment that is still being pulled out of the crates.
"I'll find a place to put it out of people's sight," Ivy promised.
So, with Professor McGonagall's approval, Ivy left the empty classroom with the golden horn. To those who didn't know the truth, it was possible that Ivy was carrying a parchment scroll that was disappearing.
Regardless, Ivy was able to go to the Great Hall to deal with the Thestrals.
Along the way, the golden horn didn't cause him too much trouble, perhaps because it had something to chew in its mouth? At least it only knocked down a few students, stepped on someone's big toe with its hoof, or hung its tail on a student's clothes button.
In Phoenix Sparks' words, Ivy had disappeared for more than a year, which was longer than the time he had raised them with Ivy. It was already very rare for Golden Horn to recognize Ivy, and he couldn't ask for more from these magical animals.
A group of students gathered in the auditorium, throwing a steak towards an empty space, then watching it disappear into the air bit by bit, followed by a suppressed cheer of horror.
Professor Sprout and Professor Flitwick were maintaining order, but they were so popular that the students only pretended to eat, but their eyes were still fixed on the open space surrounded by magic by the two professors.
This was the scene Ivy saw when he arrived at the auditorium.
What surprised him was that there was not just one Thestral standing in the circle of light surrounded by Professor Flitwick, but a whole group of them. Three of them could be called a "group", right?
The three Thestrals were enjoying the delicacy of black pepper beef veal served to the students by the house elves in the Hogwarts kitchen with their fangs. Ivy stood out from the crowd and came to the two professors, but was warned before he could speak.
"Back off! Mr. Doom, there are unknown magical creatures here! Didn't you see the warning circle on the ground? If you get any closer, I will deduct Slytherin's house points!" Professor Flitwick said sharply.
"Actually, Professor Flitwick, those are Thestrals. Three of them." Ivy considered her words. "Professor McGonagall sent me to deal with them. You know, I'm good at dealing with magical creatures..."
"Thestrals?" Professor Sprout asked. "I know the school uses them to pull carts, but don't they always dislike crowded places? How did they suddenly break into the auditorium?"
"Like other magical animals that suddenly appeared in the castle before, these Thestrals did not run out of the Forbidden Forest, but suddenly appeared in the hall." Ivy tried to explain the current situation in brief words. "As long as a period of time passes, they will naturally disappear. As long as we make sure they do not cause harm to the castle itself and the people inside, there will be no big problem."
"You mean the Christmas Kneazle?" asked Professor Sprout.
"Including the unicorn that appeared on the second floor," Ivy explained.
Professor Sprout wanted to continue asking questions when he heard the sound of a wooden prosthesis knocking on the ground. Professor Keltburn came. As the professor of Care of Magical Animals at Hogwarts, he was the real expert.
The reason why the two professors were waiting in the auditorium was because they were waiting for him.
"Sorry! Pomona, Filius, I'm late!" Professor Keltborn's powerful voice penetrated the crowd, "We have a new ivory-white Thestral at our Pegasus Ranch. It's so beautiful!"
Apparently, the Thestrals that Ivy kept in the Room of Requirement had also escaped.
"Sylvanus! You're finally here." Professor Sprout breathed a sigh of relief. "It seems that there are also Thestrals in the auditorium!"
"Really? That's great!" Professor Keltborn finally made his way through the crowd and saw three Thestrals enjoying black pepper veal steak. "Haha! What a bunch of cuties! I want to raise them all in the Pegasus Ranch~"
"I'm afraid not, Sylvanus," Professor Sprout warned. "The Thestrals will disappear, just like the Kneazles disappeared in the Great Hall."
"What? That's a shame." Professor Keltborn grabbed a piece of steak from a student's plate and moved closer to the Thestrals, wanting to feed them himself.
Ye Qi hesitated for a moment, but still obediently took the steak from him.
But before it could enjoy it, the sounds of ghosts howling and wolves howling were heard again.
Several terrified students ran out of the corridor connecting to the auditorium, followed by a silver-white unicorn.
That’s right, it was the silver horn that Ivy raised.
What was even more frightening was yet to come, as several hippogriffs glided into the auditorium, holding several pale-faced students in their sharp claws. Blood had seeped from their shoulders, leaving mottled dark red on the dark school robes.
"Merlin's beard!" Professor Sprout screamed, totally unsure of what to do, because she was not sure she could save the students without hurting them.
Seeing this scene, the auditorium, which was already packed with students, seemed to explode immediately. Everyone rushed to the door, fearing that if they were a step slower, they would become food for the magical creatures.
Professor Flitwick shouted to maintain order, hoping to get some advice from the experts: "Don't crowd, go one by one! Sylvanus! What should we do now!"
"It's so beautiful..." However, Professor Keltborn was staring at the hippogriff in the sky. As a result of Ivy's careful selection, the hippogriffs that broke into the auditorium all had very eye-catching appearances.
The pure white one was the first hippogriff Ivy raised, named Swiftwing.
The pure black one was tamed by Ivy with great difficulty. There was also another one with a black background and agate color, which Ivy named Meteorite, because under the sunlight, its feathers would reflect dark purple and bright red spots, and if combined with the downward diving action, it really looked like a falling meteorite.
Now the three hippogriffs each held a student in their claws. Ivy looked closely and saw that they were Malfoy and his two followers, Crabbe and Goyle.
Even if Hagrid hadn't become professor of Care of Magical Animals, Malfoy would still have been taught a lesson by the Hippogriff.
The two big guys were already crying their eyes out, and Malfoy himself wasn't much better, screaming in the sky like a little girl.
"Ivy! Help!" Malfoy finally saw his savior and immediately screamed desperately.
All of the above scenes happened at the same time, and the auditorium, which should have been a place for happy dining, instantly turned into a picture of hell.
Ivy sighed, feeling that at least half of the responsibility for what happened in Hogwarts this year lay with him.
So he summoned all the ancient magical power, gathered it into a flickering ball of light, and smashed it hard on the ground.
The moment the ball of light touched the floor, a magical explosion occurred, and the magic shock wave swept across the entire auditorium, causing everything that came into contact with this force to float up.
This is the magic that Ivy has been researching but has never been able to complete. He originally wanted to use the power of ancient magic to manipulate gravity, but now he can only temporarily erase it.
However, this unfinished spell has many uses. At least it can be used to prevent the stampede that was supposed to happen in the auditorium.
The little wizards huddled together at the entrance of the Great Hall were flying all over the sky, waving their limbs in vain or hooking onto the robes of those around them.
After eliminating gravity, the flying posture of the hippogriffs went wrong. They just flapped their wings lightly and their heads inevitably hit the wall, throwing the unlucky trio of Slytherins into the air.
"Amazing! Mr. Doom!" Professor Flitwick's shrill voice echoed in the hall. "Is this your ancient magic?"
Ivy leaned back slightly to avoid the sauce that had gathered in front of him, and replied, "Yes, that's all I can do for now."
