Chapter 188 Resurrection Stone

Chapter 188 Resurrection Stone

Dumbledore was so out of control.

Although Ivy had long known that Dumbledore was obsessed with the Resurrection Stone, she did not expect that he would show an attitude that was so inconsistent with his usual style.

"This is a Horcrux, Dumbledore." Ivy found that the wrinkles on Dumbledore's face that had been smoothed out because of the identification of the five Horcruxes reappeared, and looked particularly deep.

As if bitten by a snake, Dumbledore's finger that was stretched out in confusion retracted: "You are right...you are right! Ivy...this is a Horcrux..."

Through the half-moon glasses on his crooked nose, Ivy could sense that Dumbledore's eyes had never left the Resurrection Stone on the golden ring.

"Have you ever heard of it?" Dumbledore asked suddenly. "The Resurrection Stone? The Peverell twins? The Deathly Hallows?"

Before Ivy could think of how to answer, Dumbledore started telling the story.

"Legend has it that the three Peverell brothers conquered the god of death, so the god of death gave them three treasures respectively. Those three treasures are the Deathly Hallows."

"Antioch Peverell, the eldest, has been given a wand made of elderwood, which has unrivaled powers."

"The second oldest, Cadmus Peverell, has been given a stone that has the power to bring the dead back to life."

"The third son, Ignotus Peverell, got Death's invisibility cloak. From then on, even Death couldn't find him until he took off the cloak himself."

"The stone on the Horcrux is the Resurrection Stone."

There was another moment of silence.

Ivy asked aloud, "You only told me about Ignotus Peverell's ending. I'm sure the other two didn't end up well, right?"

"That's right. The way the Elder Wand was passed down was full of conspiracies and assassinations, and Antioch Peverell died a violent death not long after. As for the Resurrection Stone..." Dumbledore took a deep breath, "It is said that Cadmus Peverell used the Resurrection Stone to call back his deceased fiancée, but only a resentful spirit returned from death. She was forced to return to the world from the peace of death, but she no longer belonged here, so she felt very painful."

"It seems that the Resurrection Stone can't really give people new life." Ivy commented.

"..." Dumbledore did not answer, but continued to talk about the ending of Peverell II. "Cadmus finally realized that the Resurrection Stone could not bring him what he wanted. He and his lover could only be reunited in death. Therefore, he abandoned the Resurrection Stone and committed suicide."

"You know very well what the Resurrection Stone can bring you, right?" Ivy asked softly.

"Yes..." Dumbledore first admitted Ivy's question, then denied it, "No... Considering that the story of the Deathly Hallows is just a legend, it is difficult for me to be sure of the power of the Resurrection Stone before I get them... Even if it can only summon the souls of deceased relatives, I will be surprised... There are still many things I haven't said yet..."

"Thank you, Ivy... Thank you for stopping me." Dumbledore grabbed a handful of snow from a dead branch and rubbed his face hard, making his crooked nose turn red. "If I were alone here, I would probably fall into Voldemort's trap."

"The curse on the ring is very powerful, enough to be fatal." Even a master of black magic like Ivy would not choose to wear this ring without any precautions.

It can be said that Dumbledore in the original work had to drastically adjust his plan because he put on the ring due to a momentary negligence, forcing Harry to destroy the remaining Horcruxes of Voldemort in the seventh year.

Originally, he planned to spend more time training Harry so that he would have more time to grow, but after he was cursed, Dumbledore had no choice but to leave Harry to fate and the prophecy.

"Come on, Ivy. You come and destroy this Horcrux." Dumbledore stepped back slightly to make room for Ivy to cast the spell. Ivy did not intend to keep Marvolo's gold ring, and did not covet the Resurrection Stone itself.

Because in his opinion, the so-called resurrection stone is nothing more than a stone with a third-ring necromancy spell "Communicate with the Dead" attached to it, which is nothing big.

The only useful thing about it is that the Resurrection Stone does not require a corpse to bring back souls.

However, considering the scene that Harry saw after using the Resurrection Stone in the original book, the magic on this stone may also be of the illusion type.

Because the ghosts summoned by Harry (including his parents, Sirius and Lupin) said: "We are all part of you."

If you consider that very famous saying: Death is also rebirth.

Perhaps the purpose of creating the Resurrection Stone is simply to give its holder the courage to face death.

At least Harry, who used the Resurrection Stone, had the same ending as Cadmus Peverell, both voluntarily rushed towards death.

"Do you want to keep the stone?" Ivy asked.

Dumbledore did not give a direct answer, but said: "It is said that anyone who collects the three Deathly Hallows can conquer death..."

"I don't think so." Ivy's answer was brief.

"Haha." Dumbledore laughed. "People always say that I am a wise old man, but a lot of my wisdom comes from the experience gained from a long life. When I make a fool of myself, it's really terrible. Leave it to you, Ivy. Maybe one day, I will break the Elder Wand and let it stay in my grave."

"Very good." Ivy nodded, and a tentacle as black as ink shot out from his fingertips.

Still starting with the 5th-level spell Drain, Ivy greedily grabbed the magic power in the Horcrux. Even though Voldemort had added a powerful curse to the ring, an object without legs could not pass the agility saving throw of the Drain, so it could only become a meal on the table.

Before the energy-draining spell lasted a minute, the golden ring let out a sharp howl and fell from mid-air.

Then a green light flashed in the air. It was Ivy's sixth-level spell, Disintegration.

Powerful transmutation magic acted on it, and the golden ring and the resurrection stone engraved with the Peverell emblem on it turned into a handful of fine dust.

A gentle breeze blew, and one of the Deathly Hallows blended into the snow in the woods.

"I must admit that I never thought that dark magic could have such an effect." Dumbledore pursed his lips. In his opinion, the inky black tentacles extending from Ivy's fingertips were undoubtedly dark magic. "I wanted to try and see if Gryffindor's sword would work."

Ivy felt that he had gained some experience points. Just as he was about to open the Tome of Destruction to check the character panel and take inventory, he felt a throbbing sensation.

"We have to get back to Hogwarts. The basilisk has awakened."
