Chapter 168 A Good Beginning
Gilderoy Lockhart got into big trouble in his first class.
Ever since Ivy reformed the Defense Against the Dark Arts class schedule, this semester's Defense Against the Dark Arts classes were taught by both colleges together.
Ivy heard that Lockhart brought a cage of Cornish pixies to the second-year Slytherin and Gryffindor classes as a teaching aid.
According to what Ivy heard, students from the two colleges started fighting for some reason, and Lockhart could only hide under the podium trembling. It was not until Professor McGonagall deducted 50 points from both Gryffindor and Slytherin that the riot was ended.
It seems that even sharing the House Cup did not make the relationship between the two houses closer, and fighting side by side was the same. At least Malfoy and Harry were still sworn enemies. One would do everything to make the other "show off", while the other would pinch his nose in response, supplemented by vicious words such as "undead troll excrement".
It would be a waste of Harry's talent if he didn't come to Slytherin. At least his vicious tongue is almost as vicious as Professor Snape's.
Red-haired Ron was not helping either, because he was actually wearing the new robes that Malfoy gave him this year - as a thank you gift for saving his life.
Ivy heard this information while chatting with Hagrid.
The investigation team from the Ministry of Magic had already left. Ivy was relieved that Hagrid recognized him at first sight instead of asking him questions about his height. However, he was not sure whether Hagrid's description was good or bad - he grew as fast as a bird and snake.
The bird snake is a magical animal that can be large enough to fill a room, but can also easily fit into a teapot. Ivy had obtained several bird snake eggs a hundred years ago, but they were locked in crystal before they could hatch.
I don't know what happened to them now. Maybe they were sold by a student who accidentally entered the Room of Requirement? The eggshells of bird snakes are pure silver and expensive. The dark wizard who brought them to the vicinity of Hogwarts might have wanted to sell them for a good price, but Ivy cheated him out of it.
The Scottish Highlands where Hogwarts is located is a mountainous area. Next to the school wall is the famous wizarding village Hogsmeade, but apart from these two wizard gathering places, the entire area is mountainous. In other words, the school was built surrounded by mountains.
"Not many Muggles would come here!" Ivy agreed with Hagrid's judgment because he thought so too.
"Is Norbeta doing well? Can she fly now?" Hagrid asked excitedly, blinking his big black beetle-like eyes.
Ivy came here to seek welfare for Norbeta. As a Norwegian Ridgeback, it should not continue to be trapped in a dark underground facility.
"She eats a lot and is in good spirits." Ivy checked her growth when she was carving the teleportation array for the secret room. The naughty fire dragon had begun to challenge the authority of her adoptive mother. But Xiaoyan, an elemental creature, was not afraid of Norbeta's flames at all. He pinned his adopted daughter to the ground in a few seconds. Seeing this scene of a loving mother and a filial daughter, Ivy was really happy.
"I've managed to contact the Ministry of Magic, and I hope they can issue a license for Hogwarts to raise dragons as soon as possible. But I guess they might prefer the idea of dragons protecting their habitats." Ivy briefly described his efforts, and the part that was not said was mainly attributed to Lucius and Mr. Nott, Director of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.
"Great! I knew you could be relied upon!" Ever since the Chamber of Secrets team left Hogwarts, Hagrid had become more energetic in doing everything, but Ivy sincerely hoped that he would not use this energy on making rock pancakes.
Last time he brought a few to Norbeta, but she ignored him. It seems that even if fire dragons are classified as reptiles, they do not have the habit of swallowing stones to aid digestion.
Perhaps seeing Ivy's embarrassment, Hagrid kindly reached out to help him break up the rock cake and soak it in the hunter's soup he made. Onions, potatoes and carrots floated next to the big cake, as well as some meat that Ivy couldn't name. Ivy prayed that it was a rabbit.
As his size grew, so did his appetite, and after two exams, Ivy was already hungry. He stirred the soup with a large wooden spoon, then used magic to shrink the spoon a little, until it was almost as big as the gardening spade in Professor Sprout's greenhouse.
"It tastes great." Hagrid's hunter's soup made full use of the special aroma of the ingredients, making them work well together. Ivy felt a sense of satisfaction. It seemed that our half-giant friend just had too good teeth, not a pica. But Ivy had to admit that the stoat sandwich did not look good.
Ivy was finally able to confirm that Hagrid's rock cakes did make good use of the flour. At least after being soaked in the thick soup, they could be easily ground by Ivy's teeth.
It was certainly a satisfying meal, especially the portion size.
"What else do you have to do this afternoon?" Hagrid asked with great interest. "I heard that you are going to participate in OWLs this year, and the headmaster has given you special permission to study on your own. I don't think that's much different from 'I'm free' - so do you want to come and see my pumpkins? They will all be used to decorate the Halloween party, and they will be harvested in a few weeks... I'm going to use the Dilation Charm to give them a little boost!"
Hagrid deliberately lowered his voice when talking about the "Swelling Charm", and his eyes kept glancing at the little pink umbrella by the door.
His wand was hidden in it. When Hogwarts expelled him due to the Ministry of Magic's order, his wand was broken on purpose. However, Dumbledore used his Elder Wand to repair Hagrid. Generally speaking, a damaged wand cannot be repaired by the repair spell, but the Elder Wand is an exception. Ivy thought that this might also be some kind of "resurrection" magic, but it can only work on wands.
Perhaps it's because Ivy used to raise dragons with Hagrid, so now even if some things are not quite legal, Hagrid is willing to share with Ivy. Could this be considered a "partnership" or "accomplice" to some extent?
"Actually, I'm not really that free." Ivy saw Hagrid's eyes darken, and he continued, "Especially after I took the Care of Magical Creatures course."
Hagrid's smile emerged from under his thick beard again. "You haven't seen the 'base' yet, have you? Professor Keltborn has been staying there since it was built. We plan to open it to students of all grades after Halloween. Right now, only thestrals and some unicorns are running around in the pasture. If I calculated the time correctly, the Pegasus cubs ordered by the school board should be here in the next few days!"
