Chapter 141 Year-end Banquet
Chapter 141 Year-end Banquet
The Great Hall of Hogwarts was decorated with Slytherin's green and silver to celebrate their seventh consecutive win of the House Cup. On the wall behind the guest of honor, there was a huge banner with a Slytherin snake painted on it.
The last Quidditch game has passed, and the five little wizards who participated in the challenge have also left their own legends in the castle. All activities that can cause changes in the house points no longer exist.
Students roared in the auditorium, celebrating the end of the semester and the beginning of summer vacation.
When Dumbledore walked into the hall, the noisy noise gradually stopped.
"Very good! I believe everyone can't wait! Whether it's the food on the table or the summer vacation in a few days." Dumbledore said happily, "But before that, we still have things to do. The first is the award ceremony of the College Cup. The specific scores of each college are as follows: fourth place, Gryffindor, 177 points; third place, Hufflepuff, 282 points; Ravenclaw 326 points, Slytherin 377 points."
Due to the "legal night walks" that Dumbledore had previously instigated, the four major colleges were deducted some points to varying degrees. However, even so, Gryffindor still had a gap of 200 points with Slytherin.
There was a thunderous cheering and stamping of feet from the Slytherin table.
"Yes, yes, everyone performed well, including our dedicated professors. They deducted a lot of points from all the students who went out at night, right?" Dumbledore made a good-natured joke, but no one agreed with him. For students and professors, being deducted points for going out at night, and being caught by night patrols, were not pleasant experiences.
Dumbledore did not look embarrassed at all. He continued, "As I am sure you have heard, a few brave first-year students formed a team and successfully passed the room at the end of the corridor on the fourth floor."
"So," his eyes lingered on the Slytherin table and the Gryffindor table for a while, "there are still some points that need to be added."
"Okay, let me see..."
"First, thanks to the calm performance of Miss Hermione Granger, they passed Professor Sprout's giant devil's snare..."
The students at the Gryffindor table all focused their attention on Hermione and applauded loudly, while Hermione buried her head in her arms.
"Then the two House Seekers worked together to pass Professor Flitwick's Flying Key Room..."
The cheering in the hall stopped because what Dumbledore said was different from what they had heard, but when they thought about the forced cooperation in the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, everyone could accept it, so some people applauded sparsely.
"Faced with Professor McGonagall's giant chessboard formation, Miss Cassandra Worley quickly passed it in an unprecedented way. She subdued the White King and Queen with just one spell..."
There was renewed cheering at the Slytherin table, and some people even banged their cutlery on the table, but Cassandra merely flicked her blonde hair.
"In front of the terrible undead troll, Mr. Ron Weasley and Mr. Harry Potter put aside their past grudges, lent a helping hand to their companion, and successfully saved a life - and Mr. Draco Malfoy also commanded his friends to set the troll's head on fire. From that moment on, I realized that they were not students from two colleges, but a team from Hogwarts!"
In the first half of Dumbledore's speech, Malfoy slid under the table, with only a part of his forehead exposed. But when it came to "setting the troll's head on fire", he sat back on the chair, looking very calm. "Finally, under the calm reasoning of Miss Hermione Granger, Mr. Harry Potter and Miss Cassandra Worley bravely arrived at Professor Victor's exclusive level... Yes... They succeeded, they successfully passed all the tests! Because of their various acts of solidarity along the way, I think all of them deserve the final reward!"
"So, I will reward them each with 200 points!"
As soon as Dumbledore finished speaking, the sound of a large number of gems falling into an hourglass was heard at the entrance of the hall, and it lasted for a long time like a waterfall.
Everyone was stunned by the news. This was probably the largest score increase in the history of Hogwarts. A full 1,000 house points were given away by Dumbledore's just one sentence.
The quick-witted students reacted quickly. Because Gryffindor had one more student participating in the challenge than Slytherin, the two houses had completely eliminated the gap in this bonus point calculation, and the total score reached an astonishing 777 points.
The hall was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. Everyone held their breath, waiting for Dumbledore to announce the final winner of the House Cup.
"I have been in Hogwarts Castle for most of my life, and this is the first time I have seen two houses with the same scores." Dumbledore smiled and pushed his half-moon glasses. "Unfortunately, there is no longer enough time and reason for the house scores to change..."
The young wizards in the hall looked at each other, no one knew what would happen. Snape, sitting at the head staff desk, frowned and stared fiercely at Harry who was sitting among a group of Gryffindors.
Dumbledore raised his hand and said calmly: "Given the spirit of Hogwarts solidarity shown by the five little wizards, it is not difficult to let the two colleges share this year's college cup. Let's add some decorations to the hall!"
Half of the green hanging ribbons in the hall turned bright red, and the silver turned gold; the huge Slytherin snake had to give up half of its position and share the world with a majestic Gryffindor lion. Dumbledore took out his wand and pointed it, and the house cup in front of him turned into a pair, apparently preparing to give one to each of the two houses.
"Now, everyone may cheer!" Dumbledore was the first to applaud, and other voices began to be heard in the quiet hall.
The Gryffindors thought about it and decided that it was acceptable. After all, they were ranked last a few minutes ago, so it wasn't bad to be ranked first now.
Of course Slytherin could accept it. Dumbledore was already openly favoring Gryffindor. At least even so, they were still sitting in the first position. Although there was an extra group of people, they could still squeeze in.
Snape stood up from the long staff table and shook hands with Professor McGonagall, forcing an awkward smile on his face.
The most surprised person in the hall was Ivy. He did not expect that Dumbledore would come up with the idea of uniting the four major colleges. In Hogwarts, which has become increasingly divided in recent decades, this is almost an impossible thing.
It seems that Dumbledore is indeed beginning to feel a sense of crisis. In this troubled school, is this a good thing or a bad thing?
