Chapter 138 Illusion
Chapter 138 Illusion
"Where is this?" Ivy squatted down at the corner of the street. There were several pumpkins piled on the ground. A candle was lit in the carved mouths with sharp teeth. "The residents of this town seem to be celebrating Halloween?"
"Magic... It's so magical..." Dumbledore's face was full of trance. He looked at everything around him in amazement. There was a small square not far away. Several children dressed as pumpkins were chasing each other. The shop windows were full of paper spiders and some small bats were hanging under the lights.
"A Muggle town?" Ivy asked uncertainly. He didn't know how this magic could create such an illusion, but he was keenly aware that it seemed that Dumbledore had been here.
"No, no, no." Dumbledore seemed to remember that he was traveling with Ivy at this moment. "I'm afraid I haven't been here for a long time... I can't be sure... but... let's take a look... let's take a look..."
"Where's Harry?" Ivy asked again, "We should have been with him."
"It should be in the town..." Dumbledore's voice sounded like a dream. He opened his eyes wide to distinguish every street, and finally locked onto one. "Let's go in that direction."
This is not a request for opinion or a suggestion, but a plain statement.
The two floated past a small plaza filled with various Halloween decorations and headed toward a newer, darker street.
A figure in a black robe and cloak stood there, facing the end of the street.
"Follow him." Dumbledore did not explain, but his pace was so fast that he did not seem like a centenarian.
But even so, Dumbledore still tried to remain quiet, as if he was afraid of waking up the sleeping spider.
"We are in an illusion created by ancient magic." Ivy walked past Dumbledore, who was trying to hide himself in the shadow of the hedge. "No one here will notice us, not even Harry."
Ivy caught up with the figure hidden under the black cloak and pulled off his hood.
A dead man's bald head was exposed to the air. His face looked like it had been burned, his features were blurred and distorted strangely like wax, and the whites of his eyes seemed to be permanently filled with blood.
"Voldemort?" Ivy didn't expect to see him here. He had always been entangled with Ivy throughout the year, sometimes firing killing curses at him, and sometimes sending him gifts with soul fragments.
This is Godric's Hollow. Ivy understood everything immediately.
No wonder Dumbledore seemed very familiar with this place, because the Dumbledore family once lived here for a long time, and even his mother and sister were buried here.
"Ah - Harry." Dumbledore came to Ivy and sighed softly.
Following his gaze - that was also the direction Voldemort was staring at, a quarrel had broken out in the living room.
"Listen to me! Dad! Mom!" This was Harry's roar, and Ivy had heard it once before when he jumped off his broomstick to grab the Golden Snitch.
"We are listening..." Ivy didn't recognize the female voice, but he knew that the woman who made this voice was Lily Potter, Harry's mother.
"We must! We must leave here immediately!" Harry's voice calmed down a little, but still full of fear. "Voldemort!" He then changed his name, "The mysterious man is heading here!"
Voldemort by the hedge had no intention of continuing to watch. He floated through the iron gate like a puff of smoke and came to the wooden door of the house.
Pale fingers pulled out the wand and waved it lightly, and the wooden door slammed open.
"Who!" The tall man in the living room shouted and walked towards the hallway.
"Don't go! Dad!" But the only response Harry got was an ugly laugh and a green spell. "Avada Kedavra!"
James fell heavily to the ground, and Harry roared and tried to rush out, but his mother caught him tightly, holding him in her arms, shouting at Voldemort who was stepping over James's body: "Don't kill Harry, don't kill Harry, please, don't kill Harry!"
"Avada Kedavra!"
The pale green spell flashed a second time, and the crimson-haired woman fell down like her husband, her face still showing fear and pleading that had not yet solidified.
"Ah——" The sound that came out of Harry's mouth was simply not from the human world. He rushed towards Voldemort crying.
"Avada Kedavra!"
This was the third time Voldemort had chanted this spell. The spell, filled with infinite hatred, flew towards Harry, but it did not work like the previous two times.
Ivy and Dumbledore, who were standing nearby, saw clearly that the green killing curse backfired the moment it hit Harry.
Voldemort's killing curse shattered his own body, like a pale plaster statue thrown to the ground, and in an instant there was nothing left but pain and fear.
"I never thought... I never thought it would be like this..." Ivy saw the tears in Dumbledore's eyes, "This is really an amazing magic..."
Ivy didn't know what he was talking about, whether it was the "love" that Lily Potter used to protect Harry, or the ancient magic that Ivy used to recreate everything.
Before he could express his opinion, thick fog appeared from nowhere and submerged the entire scene.
This is the inherent logic of illusion magic. It will continue to repeat all of this until the person who enters the illusion passes through. This is the result that Ivy set up when he used ancient magic to create that wall.
The fog had cleared again, and Ivy and Dumbledore were back in the small square in Godric's Hollow, where Harry was too.
Ivy and Dumbledore watched him get up from the ground, wipe away his tears, and rush into the darkness without looking back.
"What does Harry have to do to get through his illusion..." Dumbledore asked softly, "Does he have to defeat Voldemort?"
"This illusion originates from the intruder's strongest desire, or obsession, deep in his heart," Ivy explained.
"Like the Mirror of Erised or the Boggart?" Dumbledore looked around, and Voldemort's figure appeared in the square again.
"Like the Mirror of Erised or a Boggart," Ivy confirmed.
"But this doesn't make sense..." Dumbledore sighed, "Harry told me that he saw his family in the Mirror of Erised... Then why is Voldemort here?"
"You really didn't have any suspicions?" Ivy asked, "even after I told you Harry was a Parseltongue?"
Dumbledore closed his eyes, unwilling to face this reality: "This illusion... also belongs to Voldemort?"
"I think so." Ivy nodded gently, watching Voldemort embark on a road of no return once again. "The strongest wishes and obsessions in their hearts are all here..."
