Chapter 51 Celebration
Chapter 51 Celebration
The only sound in the silent meeting room was the rustling of papers. The old white man, Jesse, was holding a coffee cup and reviewing the final contract.
Ryan Scooter was also looking at him, while Taylor's father was taking a nap in a chair.
Jesse looked up and pushed the copy of the contract to Ryan: "Basically, there is no problem. You can take a look at the key figures, the royalty sharing ratio and so on. If there are no questions, we can officially prepare to sign the contract."
Scooter let out a long sigh, even more relaxed than Ryan.
Ryan and Scooter took a final photo together, shaking hands and smiling in front of the camera.
"I'm actually only a few years older than you. I grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, which is separated from Long Island, New York by a strait. I came to Atlanta for college, but I didn't graduate." Scooter, who has the "college dropout buff", somewhat intended to introduce himself to Ryan.
"I will contact Republic Records' legal department today to eliminate counterfeiters on the digital download platform." Scooter said immediately.
He learned about the situation during their first formal meeting at Ryan's house.
"Harlem rock is very popular right now, so we must strike while the iron is hot. You will start your radio tour this week, and there may be some reporters who will interview you. I will notify you in advance when the time comes." Scooter went on to say.
Radio touring is the first step that every artist must take, and Ryan is certainly no exception.
“Also, tell my assistant your social media account password later. She will take over and you can focus on radio promotion.” Scooter patted Ryan on the shoulder.
"I've already assigned this to someone else, and I've just hired him." Ryan said quickly.
In fact, he hasn't found an operator yet. But he will never hand over control of social media to Scooter.
Scooter laughed: "You have to understand that trust is the key to success."
"Of course, in fact I trust you very much." Ryan nodded.
"That's good." Scooter stared at Ryan and smiled.
"Also, the copyright of my lyrics and music is signed to an independent record company in Europe, Spenny Records. I told you about this." Ryan said. He did not forget Taylor's previous reminder.
"I know. I'll have my legal team contact the Dutch company to confirm," Scooter continued.
"Of course." Ryan said.
At least it seems that the two of them are now in great harmony.
After temporarily parting with Scooter and his group, Ryan, Taylor's father and his friend walked out of the hotel.
"Boy, why do you look so depressed?" Jesse found that Ryan's expression was not as happy as he had imagined.
Ryan gave a forced smile, knowing that this was the price of signing a short-term contract and that he had to be on guard against the other party at all times.
"Ryan, how about going fishing with me and your Uncle Jesse?" Taylor's father suddenly suggested.
"Do I need to wear a helmet?" Ryan asked absentmindedly.
"Of course not." Taylor's father shook his head as if it was a joke.
·
In the quiet river, a speedboat was drifting slowly on the water. The fishing rod in Jesse's hand suddenly bent sharply. He quickly reeled in the line, and a smallmouth black bass was caught out of the water.
Ryan quickly picked up the scoop net, bent over and caught the fish. At this moment, he was like a caddy on a golf course, helping the two old white men.
"We've had a great harvest today." Jesse shouted excitedly.
"I didn't want her to go down this path at first. I'm not very familiar with this field and I can't provide much help. And as you know, it's very chaotic here," said Taylor's father, who was standing on the other side.
When he said "the help was not much", that was only compared with the financial field. A ten-year-old girl from an ordinary family would not be able to sing at the US Open.
"I asked my secretary to help me search for your videos on the Internet. They were those crazy scenes. To be honest, I don't understand them, but I think they are quite interesting. A one-year contract is very short. When the contract is over, you will have plenty of opportunities to plan for your future. You can either go to school or go further on this path. Your uncle will help you then."
"But the premise is that you treat her well and don't make her sad. Young man, this is my only daughter." Taylor's father changed the subject and swung out the fishing rod.
Apparently his father had discovered him fooling around with Taylor last night. Regardless of whether the old white man's promise was effective or not, its deterrent effect was real.
·
In the evening, Ryan said goodbye to the two old white men and immediately called the A&R representative of Spenny Records.
"I may have to ask you for a favor." Ryan made the request, mainly asking Spenny to help him keep it secret.
"This is a little difficult, I have to report." The other party was a little embarrassed. "Just think of it as I owe you Spinney a favor." Ryan continued.
"I can try, but I can't guarantee success. You'd better be prepared for both situations." The other party continued.
"Thank you."
Then Ryan called the lady at Atlantic Records.
"Sorry, Scooter gave me an offer I can't refuse. Maybe we can work together again next year." Ryan said. He also learned the art of making promises.
The other party scolded Scooter for breaking industry rules, but didn't say anything to Ryan.
·
"Oh!"
As soon as Ryan entered the door, he heard the sound of fireworks exploding, and then the lights in the living room were turned on. Abigail, Joel, Paul, Hank, Austin and other classmates and friends he met after the time travel were cheering together. It was Trey who was releasing the fireworks next to him, but Taylor was missing.
"What do you want to eat?" Ryan didn't actually want to celebrate, but seeing that everyone was there, he couldn't just chase them away.
"What's the point of eating at home on such an important day? It's time for Ryan to bleed a little." Paul suggested immediately.
But Terri smiled and reminded: "Are you sure you don't want to try Ryan's cooking?"
Soon everyone began to be glad that they did not listen to Paul.
"When did you learn to cook?" Paul's mouth was full of oil.
"Shit, you're more suited to being in the kitchen than standing on the DJ booth." Joel inhaled the steaming fried food.
"At least you won't be unemployed." Abigail's eyes curved into crescents.
Ryan listened to everyone's praises and just sat there without even touching his cutlery.
"Leave some for my sister!" Austin said while eating.
"Is she coming too?" Ryan suddenly became alert.
"Of course, but she's busy working on her new album, so she'll be late for the party," Abigail said without even looking up.
"I'm going to the bathroom." Ryan stood up immediately.
I went into the bathroom and called Taylor immediately.
"Why can't I come? You're just trying to have the best of both worlds!" Taylor yelled, she was already on her way.
"I don't mind." Ryan said shamelessly, "But your brother is here. If you and Abigail fall out and your parents find out, we will never have any contact again in this life. Your father just warned me this afternoon."
In this world, the only people who can really make Taylor worried are her parents.
"Then...then I'll go over later." Taylor muttered, but he was not as aggressive as before. He probably knew he was in the wrong.
"Can't you come back tomorrow?"
"I want to eat the food you cook." Taylor said coquettishly.
When Ryan opened the bathroom door, he saw Abigail standing at the door, and his heart skipped a beat.
"I was just about to knock on the door. Who are you talking to on the phone?" Abigail asked.
"The legal department of Shchoolboy Records is working overtime, collecting evidence of others impersonating Harlem Rock originals. Do you want to go to the bathroom?" Ryan nodded.
Abigail hummed.
One of them came out and the other went in.
As the dinner was coming to an end, friends left one after another. The last to leave was Abigail. She and Ryan snuggled at the door for a long time.
"Hmph." Taylor, who had parked his car at a nearby street corner, squinted his eyes and observed the two of them through the front windshield. He couldn't help but sneer. When he saw Abigail looking over here, he immediately bent down.
