Chapter 5

Entering the standalone building with Taylor, the first thing that comes into view is a wall of record covers.

At first glance, Ryan saw many well-known artists, including John Mayer, Dolly Parton, Beck, RUSH, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Kings of Leon, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Blake Shelton, and this is just a small part of the entire cover wall.

"Blackbird has nine recording studios with completely different functions and features." Taylor seemed to be in a good mood, like a tour guide, and took the initiative to introduce them to Ryan.

Ryan did have the illusion of visiting a tourist attraction. When he passed by Studio C, he saw that the walls of the room were covered with long wooden sticks. Taylor said that there were 130,000 long wooden sticks in the whole room, and each one was a different length.

"I heard that it's designed based on an acoustic diffusion algorithm. In short, it's for the pursuit of a better immersive mixing and playback environment." Taylor also has some understanding of this.

The largest studio, Studio A, houses the Neve 8078 console originally customized for Motown Los Angeles, while Studio B has a series of "collector-level" microphones.

"We're here. The person you're looking for is here." Taylor pushed open the thick door of Recording Studio D.

Ryan followed him in and immediately saw the exaggerated 96-channel API Legacy mixing console, the largest in North America. There were many other devices that Ryan couldn't name.

Besides Taylor, there were only three other staff members in the studio. Taylor walked up to the studio, exchanged a few words with the bald, red-haired man, and then walked back.

"I'm afraid you'll have to wait a while. I have to re-record a segment." Taylor pointed behind Ryan: "The private lounge is over there."

"Maybe I can sit in the back." Ryan was not interested in the lounge, but wanted to see how the recording work was going.

But Taylor refused: "I have made an exception and brought you in. Due to the confidentiality of the new song, you cannot sit in."

So Ryan had to enter the private lounge, where all four walls were covered with velvet, and there were dark walnut floors. The angles and brightness of the lights were adjusted by professionals, giving people a relaxing and comfortable feeling. A girl was sitting on the retro brown leather sofa, playing with her mobile phone with her head down. When she heard Ryan come in, she couldn't help but look up.

The two introduced themselves. The girl was shorter than Taylor, with long curly hair that was a darker copper color than Taylor's. Her name was Abigail, and she was Taylor's friend.

"You just met Taylor yesterday, and you came to record a song with her today? Wow, your relationship is progressing pretty fast." Abigail looked as if she had discovered something incredible.

"I wanted to give a demo of a song to her producer." Ryan explained why he was here.

The two began to chat casually, and Ryan found out that Abigail not only knew Tray, but she also appeared in Taylor's previous MV, and even Abigail's name appeared in the song Taylor recorded today.

"Taylor said this was a memorable day, so I had to come," Abigail shrugged. Then she talked about how they met. After Taylor transferred from Pennsylvania to a high school in Nashville, he and Abigail became deskmates, and they soon became close friends.

This friendship has continued to this day and is used by Taylor as a source of inspiration for his songs.

"That's just how she is. She writes everything, big or small, into songs. That's how she creates," said Abigail.

Now Ryan deeply agrees with this statement.

Then she took the initiative to ask Ryan: "So, what is your inspiration for creation?"

"what?"

"The song you made."

"Um...it's an ambulance."

The other party obviously didn't understand, and at this moment, the door of the lounge was opened.

Taylor almost skipped to Abigail's side, her face full of excitement and girlishness, and it was impossible to associate her with the girl from yesterday afternoon at all.

But when she noticed Ryan, her face instantly turned gloomy, and then she glared at Ryan fiercely, showing that she was quite vindictive.

"You should listen to this new version of the clip," Taylor said to Abigail, and this time Ryan was also lucky enough to listen in.

Ryan walked out of the lounge with the two of them. There were still the three staff members in the recording studio, producer Nathan Chapman, the sound engineer, and an assistant sound engineer who was debugging the equipment.

At Taylor's signal, the bespectacled assistant sound engineer began playing a clip of the song.

"You take a deep breath and walk into the campus.

It's the first day of school.

You said hello to a friend you hadn't seen for a while
Try not to get in other people’s way.”

"When you are 15 years old, someone says they love you.
You will believe it's true.

When you were 15,
I feel like there is nothing to question.”

"Sitting beside red-haired Abigail,

Soon you became good friends.

Laugh at those together,
The girl who thought she was cool. " "That first kiss at 15,
Make you crazy,
But in the rest of life,
There are better things than hanging out with a boy on the football team.
But I didn’t know that when I was 15…”

“Looking back on the past,
I swore I would marry him someday.

But I found that I still had big dreams.

Abigail gave her all to

The boy who changed his mind,
We all cried..."

After the continuous clips were played, Abigail, as the character of the song, seemed a little touched and hugged Taylor deeply, while producer Nathan Chapman encouraged:
"This song is full of rich and sincere emotions, at least it restores the mood of an adolescent girl, but the melody is lacking and some parts may need to be revised."

"What's the name of this song?" Abigail couldn't help asking.

"Fifteen," Taylor responded.

Taylor was older than fifteen when she wrote this song, but she was sharp enough and had received guidance from professionals. After moving to Nashville, Taylor and songwriter Liz Ross held a two-hour writing meeting every Tuesday afternoon. Seven songs on Taylor's first album were co-written by the two.

Even Ryan had to admit that, apart from her fickle personality, the lyrics of this song could be said to touch the hearts of young girls.

But the problem is, this time she didn’t expose her ex-boyfriend but her own friends instead. Is this really a good thing?

Thinking of this, he subconsciously shook his head again, which caught Taylor's attention.

"You think this song is bad and not as good as the one you wrote?" Taylor said in a bad tone.

"How could that be? After listening to your songs, I finally know why I was eliminated. Compared with 'Fifteen', my previous song 'Fire and Rain' is really too empty and monotonous. And I also really feel your love and care for your friends. You wrote your friends' first experiences into the songs, and let fans all over the world remember this. This friendship is really great." Ryan smiled.

But Taylor was thick-skinned enough to say lightly: "Thank you for your concern, but Abigail has already agreed, right, dear!"

Seeing Taylor's expectant look, Abigail wanted to say something, but in the end she just nodded awkwardly.

"I'm just too embarrassed to say no, can't you see that?" Ryan said.

"Do you know her? Who are you to make decisions for her?" Taylor responded immediately.

The two began to bicker. Abigail looked at the young man who spoke up for her. She was touched for a moment and took the initiative to speak: "Well... the lyrics are fine. I can accept it."

Since the person involved said so, Ryan had nothing to say and just took out the USB drive.

"By the way, maybe there's another song on the scene that's just as good as "Fifteen." The winner Taylor chuckled, and of course he didn't miss any opportunity to mock Ryan.

"So you're the boy on the football team in that song?" The photographer's assistant joked, noticing Ryan's physique and taking the USB drive.

As the demo began to play, the first thing that appeared was not a catchy melody, but a low-frequency continuous sound wave noise.

This made the assistant sound engineer think that the sound equipment was damaged, but in fact, Ryan left a piece of instrument component on the audio track because he was not familiar with the operation.

The song doesn't enter its intro until ten seconds later.

At this time, the producer, the recording engineer, and Taylor were all packing up their things. Today's recording work had ended.

The music continues to play, followed by an interlude, a brief gradual progression, until the all-important climax of the song!
At this time, producer Nathan finally responded, but he just asked the recording assistant to turn down the volume. The remaining recording engineers and Taylor didn't even raise their heads.

Until the short demo is finished.

"Where are the vocals? I only heard the overly heavy drum beats. It's not my ears, is it? Did you forget to record it? The top 12 contestants of Nashville Star." Taylor was very proud. This was not a compliment. There were only contestants in Nashville Star.

"I think it's pretty good. At least it's quite exciting and makes people want to shake their heads." Abigail took the initiative to smile at Ryan and even encouraged him, "It's amazing that you can achieve this level in your first attempt."

"What? It's obviously very noisy." Taylor muttered.

“Although it’s still a work-in-progress, I can already hear the main music. It’s obviously an electronic music and it sounds great! I hold the same opinion as Abigail. It’s amazing to reach this level on your first try. You can definitely try to become a professional DJ!” Producer Nathan Chapman said with a smile.

This is not a compliment, and Nathan doesn't need to compliment Ryan, but it is the real truth from the heart.

Taylor's eyebrows turned into an inverted s-shape. Hearing others praising Ryan was more painful than hearing others scolding him.

And he happened to be his own producer. He didn’t comment on his song like that just now!

"No, it can't compare to Taylor's song. I just came up with this idea last night." Ryan smiled innocently, praising himself in different ways.

Others didn't know the truth, but Taylor knew Ryan wasn't lying, and he felt a little embarrassed. For the first time, his proud heart was shaken, and he hadn't felt this way for a long time.
