Chapter 480 The Clown!

Chen Jin, of course, had no idea that his neighbors were plotting against him.

He wasn't really interested in knowing.

He would sit in the dressing room, pondering the personality of the character he was going to play, until it was almost time. He didn't wait for the staff to call him, but instead went to the film set on his own.

Director Martin Scorsese is already in position, and he's talking to the camera crew and assistant director.

Leonardo DiCaprio and the others haven't arrived yet; the superstars will definitely be the last to appear.

Chen Jin sat on the side of the set, waiting for filming to begin.

By this time, Martin Scorsese had probably finished talking. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Chen Jin sitting there and immediately recognized the role she was playing.

As a renowned director, he naturally has a lot of say in the scripts he works on.

Although he wasn't quite familiar with the name of the Chinese actress Chen Jin.

But the feeling of the character is right, and the performance is immersive.

In the eyes of professionals, they can actually tell at a glance whether an actor's performance is good or bad.

Especially those directors who excel at award-winning art films have a sharp eye, able to see through the surface of an actor's performance to the essence of their expertise.

This is the ability of a director to train actors.

This skill is often innate; great directors are born with this kind of magic.

Martin Scorsese is clearly such a director.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have been nominated for an Oscar so many times.

Even though Chen Jin is Chinese, there are some common elements in his performances; he may seem to be sitting there playing an ordinary role, but in the director's eyes, he is anything but ordinary.

How do you say that?

When you see mountains as mountains and water as water, you see mountains not as mountains and water not as water!
In the eyes of a master, especially when it comes to professional matters, things are different from those of an ordinary person.

You might just know that this person acted okay, and you might even notice some details about Chen Jin, such as his nervousness, his nervous little movements, like fidgeting with the hem of his clothes.

But Martin, who was familiar with the plot, knew that the character played by Chen Jin was supposed to sell Jordan's shoes to the male lead.

He is a young entrepreneur with a history of marijuana use, so he lacks confidence.

His childhood friend, Jordan, is now a very famous economist on Wall Street, worth hundreds of millions, and has also started an investment company.

Even though the two of them played together very well when they were young, Tang has no idea what he's like now.

This uncertainty can make an already insecure person even more timid and hesitant.

What's more, he was trying to sell shoes to him.

"This Chinese actor is quite good!"

Martin muttered to himself, clearly opposed to the role being given to a Chinese character because it didn't fit the "original work"!
But capital is a fortress, and even a director like him can't do anything about it, no matter how famous he is.

Some renowned directors value their reputation and resolutely oppose such practices.

That's called having integrity.

But Martin Scorsese is different. Even if he wants his films to be nominated for Oscars, he also wants them to be box office hits, so his films are still more commercial.

It's nothing more than casting a minor, insignificant supporting character; the acting... Martin was relieved after watching it.

Giving him this role might not be a bad idea.

Jordan's company definitely has Chinese employees, which is certainly an element that can boost box office sales.

That's how the investors convinced him at the beginning, and now Martin has convinced himself. The reason, of course, is that Chen Jin, who hasn't even started filming yet, has left him with a very good impression of being an actress.

He can bring the character to life in the story without it feeling out of place.

Just like how viewers, upon seeing him, spontaneously think of their Chinese colleagues, creating a smooth and seamless sense of immersion.

And that is an actor's acting skills.

He doesn't break the immersion in the story.

……

Martin Scorsese glanced at Chen Jin a few times before looking away.

Of course, he didn't go up to talk to Chen Jin. No matter how good Chen Jin's acting skills were, he wouldn't let a big director personally go up to befriend her.

There are actors in North America who can act better than Chen Jin.

Martin had met him before.

So this was just a minor incident, and Martin didn't take it to heart. He started preparing for the filming later.

But... why hasn't Leon arrived yet?

This is the kind of actor he values, and Martin wouldn't say anything even if the actor was late.

Although Leonardo DiCaprio is very dedicated to filming and is generally not late, at most he will arrive at the filming location right on time after resting and being fully refreshed.

This time, he arrived right on time with his agent Rick Yorn and Jonah Hill.

All three of them saw Chen Jin sitting to the side, immersed in her role.

After exchanging a glance, Leonardo sighed and silently mourned for Chen Jin for a second.

This guy offended his agent, and he's obviously not going to get away with it.

"Leon, how did you sleep last night?"

Martin greeted Leonardo DiCaprio as usual as he walked onto the set.

The two had collaborated many times and were already very close friends, maintaining a harmonious relationship in private.

"good!"

Leonardo DiCaprio smiled at Martin, who shrugged: "Looks like today's shoot will go smoothly?"

"Oh, only God knows the answer to such things. I hope it will be as you wish!"

"Probably!"

Martin suddenly spoke, glancing at Chen Jin beside him, and said softly, "This Chinese actor is quite good; he's been here for a while now!"

"Oh? You mean Chan?"

Leonardo DiCaprio shrugged and leaned close to Martin's ear: "He won Best Actor at Venice, making him one of the younger actors to receive that award!"

Weren't you there for the audition?

It seems like Chen Jin auditioned at the same time as him?!
This old guy forgets so quickly?

"Oh, okay, maybe I didn't notice!"

Martin had almost completely forgotten about the audition; as a big director, he was usually too busy.

Let me tell you about another audition for a supporting role; he really didn't take it seriously.

"Chan's performance was actually quite good!"

"I've seen the movies he starred in..."

As Leonardo DiCaprio casually mentioned it, the image of his manager's earlier comment about the NG provocation came to mind again.

"I hope the three of you can work together smoothly from now on!"

"How are the preparations going?"

Martin suddenly picked up the walkie-talkie and shouted that the prop master and others were setting up the filming location, and that they could start filming as soon as they were done.

Time passed by, second by second.

Finally, the set was all set up, and Chen Jin and the other two were standing in their respective positions on the set, ready to film their first scene of the day.

As the script supervisor announced "action," filming officially began for Chen Jin's first scene in "Wall Street."

"Oh, Tang, you've finally arrived!"

Jonah Hill began reciting his lines from his previous scene with Chen Jin, opening his arms to Chen Jin as he spoke.

"Haha, Donnie, long time no see!"

Upon hearing the voice, Chen Jin snapped out of her reverie, paused for a moment, and then looked up to see that it was her childhood friend Donnie. A smile immediately appeared on her face.

His previously reserved expression suddenly relaxed.

However, his hands betrayed his true feelings.

So Jonah Hill took the initiative to greet Chen Jin, and the two embraced. This attention to detail was impeccable.

At least, Martin felt that Chen Jin's portrayal of the character immediately established the character.

Chen Jin sensed Jonah's joy, and although he didn't pat and hit Jonah's back like he did during their rehearsals, he still managed to portray the excitement of seeing his childhood friend.

Chen Jin was somewhat embarrassed by this guy's actions.

Such enthusiasm was something I hadn't expected before coming here, after all, his other childhood friend Jordan is now a Wall Street billionaire, a famous young financier, and quite well-known in North America.

There is a significant difference in their social status.

As his assistant and also Tang's childhood friend, Jonah was also a beneficiary. Even if he didn't have hundreds of millions, he should have entered the elite class.

Therefore, Chen Jin definitely needs to keep some distance.

"Come on, Tang, I'll take you to see Jordan!"

Jonah changed the hug to putting his arm around Chen Jin's neck. Chen Jin was pulled into his arms and dragged towards Leonardo DiCaprio's office.

This hugging gesture is acceptable; the force isn't too great, and Chen Jin feels it's tolerable for performance purposes.

Unlike when they were acting together, this guy was definitely doing it on purpose.

So his warnings during the scene were effective; the guy was clearly scared.

The following scenes depict the happy reunion of the three.

Chen Jin went from being reserved to fitting in with them and even started promoting her shoes, which of course took several takes to film.

Until one game, Leonardo DiCaprio suddenly reached out.

I made a mistake on the business trip.

"Feel sorry!"

Leonardo DiCaprio shrugged, indicating that the scene needed to be reshot.

It's normal for actors to have to do multiple takes, so Chen Jin didn't think much of it, and the group filmed again.

But... another problem arose.

This time it's Jonah.

The third time, Jonah raised his hand and pointed at Chen Jin: "Hey, you're too stiff!"

"Ok!"

Chen Jin had a vague feeling that this guy and Little Li were planning to mess with him.

Come again!

Leonardo DiCaprio has run into trouble again.

"Take a break!"

He did seem to be in poor condition. Chen Jin glanced at the two of them, but didn't think much of it and stayed aside waiting for filming to resume.

Martin seemed unfazed and raised his hand to signal the others to take a break as well.

Ten minutes later, the scene resumed.

This time, it's Chen Jin!
Chen Jin was a little distracted, of course, on purpose.

"Hi--"

Jonah was clearly somewhat dissatisfied, as if he had finally found Chen Jin's problem, and he spread his hands towards him.

Little Li quickly stepped in to mediate, saying, "Let's continue!"

Try again.

Sure enough, after Chen Jin performed her role well in the second take, Jonah started causing trouble.

He waved his hand abruptly, looking quite annoyed, and said to director Martin beside him, "Oh, shit, what a terrible state!"

"I've been influenced by someone!"

"Don't you three need to have a talk?"

Martin was clearly unaware of the underhanded dealings between the three. He felt that their lack of coordination was likely due to a lack of communication, and he viewed the issue from a director's perspective.

However, Martin had a big question: why did the three of them film so well and have such great chemistry from the very beginning?
This just happened so suddenly?
Although this often happens during filming, Martin still couldn't understand it.

"Yes, we definitely need to communicate about it!"

As Leonardo DiCaprio was speaking, he waved to Jonah and then looked at Chen Jin: "Chan, want to chat together?"

"Okay!"

Chen Jin knew that these two people were plotting against him, but surprisingly he wasn't angry.

This kind of clownish trickery that messes with people's mentality is actually nothing new in film crews both domestically and internationally.

Very normal.

Chen Jin never expected that a Hollywood superstar like Leonardo DiCaprio would do such a thing.
Why does a nobody like me need to make such a big fuss?

Why not just let yourself get out of here?!

Or is it that these bastards don't want him to leave because he still has value, because of... the Chinese market behind him?
That's just pure disgust, like the warning in the dressing room before?!

Or... is there another purpose?
Chen Jin couldn't understand it, but she didn't want to think about it. Instead, she followed Xiao Li to the side.

Jonah and Leonardo DiCaprio clearly thought Chen Jin would be very angry, and might even fight like they did in the dressing room.

Unexpectedly, he didn't say anything and waited for Leonardo DiCaprio to speak.

Originally, Jonah's goal was to make Chen Jin lash out at him, which would give him a reason to take action, and then accuse Chen Jin of causing trouble. This guy had already thought of all his backup plans.

Based on everyone's understanding of Martin, he would absolutely not tolerate such a thing happening on his film crew.

Chen Jin is definitely going to be in trouble!

But... Chen Jinzhen just stood there, without saying a word.

But his eyes glanced at Leonardo DiCaprio, as if to say, "You said you wanted to talk to me, so say something."
This look made Leonardo DiCaprio very uncomfortable, but... if Jonah made the first move, then the other party had a reason.

We can only wait for Chen Jin to finally lose control.

"uh-huh!"

In the end, Little Li really couldn't hold back anymore. Chen Jin was really good at keeping quiet; if he hadn't said anything, he would have been even more abnormal.

Martin was watching.

"Chan, let's both calm down!"

"well--"

"I'm calm!"

Chen Jin spoke in English, interrupting directly: "I have been very serious about playing this role, haven't you all been too?"

"what do you mean?"

Jonah suddenly sprang to his feet, yelling at Chen Jin, "What are you doing? What do you want to do?"

This sound also drew the attention of many people in the crew, who turned to look at Jonah. It was clear that Jonah couldn't find Chen Jin's weakness, so he started to frame her and create some trouble.

And they made a lot of noise.

Chen Jin was amused by the guy's vivid performance.

Are you trying to create an accident when there isn't one?
"..."

He spread his hands, smiling as he looked at Jonah, who resembled an enraged lion dog, and involuntarily took a step back.

Everyone could tell that Chen Jin was backing down, and that she didn't want to argue with Jonah.

Jonah's hard-won efforts to build up his strength seemed to have been met with nothing but frustration, leaving him feeling utterly miserable.

Can you imagine that someone he initially thought had a bad temper actually started playing mind games with him, and no matter how he tried to provoke him, he wouldn't fall for it?

"what happened?"

Martin Scorsese heard the commotion and came over, looking at the three people in front of him with a puzzled expression.

Reason told him that this matter seemed to be more complex than just the three people not communicating.
