Chapter 4: Cut off your feet to leave
Xiao Baojing couldn't quite understand their behavior.

While the peddler was not at home, she plucked up her courage and quietly followed them to observe.

Qiu Yuejian and others never left the town.

They wandered around the town, drinking rainwater when they were thirsty and eating wild fruits on the roadside when they were hungry, but no matter what they did, their feet always kept moving, as if they could not stop at all.

"It keeps happening again and again!" The round-faced maid collapsed and screamed, "Miss, we are trapped here by a ghost wall. We can never get out!"

The exit of the town is clearly right in front of us.

It’s right under the hibiscus tree, right where the old stone tablet of “Hibiscus Town” stands.

But they had no way to control their feet to move forward.

They could only watch helplessly as they missed the exit again and again with hope, entering a new cycle again and again. The sleepless stress and fear for days had pushed their bodies and minds to the brink of collapse.

Qiu Yuejian's feet kept walking, her steps were light and graceful, but her beautiful face had already had sunken eye sockets and a dark and yellow complexion, because her body and hands were resisting to move forward, and her whole body seemed to be twisted into a doughnut.

She said in a shrill voice, "Don't you guys call yourselves demon hunters?! If it's demons and ghosts that are causing trouble, why don't you cast a spell to kill them?! I am a delicate lady, a noble lady among noble ladies! If anything happens to me, Daddy will skin you alive!"

Although the young men were demon-slayers, they were inexperienced and not very skilled. Even if they used up all the talisman paper, peach wood swords and demon-slaying pestles in the mustard seed bag, they were still unable to break through the ghost wall.

As dusk was approaching, the mountains were filled with fog and it seemed like it was going to rain. The town was filled with cold winds and bits of paper money began to appear on the ground again.

The round-faced maid walked twistedly while looking around in panic: "They lit up the lanterns, they are looking at us...Miss, they seem to be getting closer and closer to us..."

Qiu Yuejian shuddered.

She looked around.

She vaguely remembered that when she first arrived in Furong Town, most of these dolls stayed in the house, but now, these painted wooden dolls wearing clothes seemed to walk out of the house.

Men, women, old and young, some crying and some laughing, were standing under the eaves, silently watching the seven of them!
Although their expressions were painted with colored paint, Qiu Yuejian felt that their eyeballs were following their movements!

There were a few dolls with old faces standing on the roadside, holding a green lantern in one hand and the other hand slightly raised, like simple and hospitable old men trying to keep guests.

"They...they want us to stay here!"

The round-faced maid was the youngest. After several days of torture, she was almost scared out of her wits. Even her pupils began to blur. "Miss, they want to turn us into puppets and keep us here forever! This is retribution, all because we killed Jiu--"

"Shut up!" Qiu Yuejian screamed, "There is no such thing as retribution from the underworld, it's all the work of evil spirits! As long as we destroy the center of the ghost wall, this place will fall apart!"

Xiao Baojing hid behind the flags of the rice shop.

She stood on tiptoe to get a better look and accidentally stepped on a piece of dead wood.

The sound startled Qiu Yuejian and others, and they looked over subconsciously.

Xiao Baojing was afraid that someone would discover that he was a puppet and burn him, so he quickly hid in the shop.

The round-faced little maid's mind had long been shaky like a candle in the wind.

The fleeting sight of Xiao Baojing's snow-white face was like the last straw that broke the camel's back for her.

She opened her pale, cracked lips and said, "Miss, I seem... I seem to have seen the Ninth Princess... It turns out that she has been following us... has been following us..."

Qiu Yuejian's throat felt dry and tight.

Just now, she also saw the face that flashed by.

Could it be that all this is caused by that bitch's ghost?
The round-faced little maid suddenly held her head and screamed loudly: "I didn't do anything! I just followed orders to tear your clothes! I didn't know that was the wedding dress your mother embroidered for you! You only told me after I tore it up, I didn't know anything at all!" Everyone was startled by her sudden shouting.

The round-faced maid suddenly pointed at the young men and said, "They were the ones who took turns raping you on your wedding night. They were the ones who sent you to the bandits and tied you up in a doghouse. They peeled off your skin bit by bit while you were still alive, dismembered you, and made fun of you! I didn't do anything! I didn't do anything! Please let me go, please let me go!"

She completely collapsed, fell to her knees and kowtowed towards the rice shop.

Qiu Yuejian and others looked at her in horror.

She wanted to kowtow to atone her sins, but her legs refused to stop, twisting and moving as if they had self-awareness, dragging her to continue crawling in the town in a strange posture, and her ten slender fingers dug deeply into the soil, grinding her nails to pieces and causing her ten fingers to bleed, leaving ten long winding bloodstains.

Qiu Yuejian's heart was beating so hard, it swelled in her chest until she could hardly bear it.

She bit her tongue to stay awake and ordered fiercely: "This little bitch is always talking nonsense, what are you still doing? Why don't you kill her right away?!"

The faces of several young men had already turned livid. Upon hearing this, they drew their swords without hesitation and slashed at the round-faced little maid.

However, the sword hit the wrong direction.

Instead of cutting off her neck, they cut off her feet.

The round-faced little maid who was originally crawling in a twisted manner suddenly collapsed to the ground.

However, her chopped-off feet maintained the same movement speed as Qiu Yuejian and others, and she continued to walk lightly in the streets in her blood-soaked embroidered shoes.

A strange and oppressive silence silently spread among Qiu Yuejian and others.

The young man who swung the sword held the hilt tightly, his voice trembling: "Miss, perhaps we have found a way to leave here."

Seeing her hands and feet were cold, Qiu Yue finally felt an indescribable fear.

Cut off your own feet -

Climb out?

It's raining in the mountains tonight.

Xiao Baojing had already quietly slipped out of the back door of the rice shop and hurried back to the small courtyard before the peddler returned home to continue pretending to be her puppet.

Perhaps because of the sudden mountain rain, the peddler came back a little late tonight.

He took off his bamboo hat and raincoat under the eaves, and sighed as he stepped over the threshold: "The raincoat is a bit old, and my clothes are all wet. Fortunately, I picked up some wood on the road, so I can use it to make a fire and dry the clothes."

He shook out the wood that was in his robe.

Xiao Baojing sat in front of the dressing table and looked over curiously.

I don't know where he picked up the wood from, there are about fourteen pieces, each one is as big as a human foot, and the dark red color looks like dried blood.

She watched the peddler building a fire and setting up a bamboo rack for drying clothes in the porch, and her eyes fell on his two baskets full of goods.

Nothing was sold.

He didn't make any money today.

Will you really not starve to death?
Xiao Baojing was very sad.
