Chapter 52 Don’t Call Me Dog
"Sister Bai, look, there's a puppy here." A childish female voice shouted excitedly.

An eight-year-old girl in a red dress happily called out to a ten-year-old girl in a white dress not far away.

Bai Yan frowned and moved closer, looking in the direction the little girl pointed, and sure enough, she saw a furry cub covered in mud in the small mud ditch.

The cub heard the noise on the roadside, raised his head with bloodshot eyes, and growled threateningly at the two people in the ditch.

Bai Yan's face darkened immediately: "This is not a dog, it's a mutant beast cub."

"Then can I save him?" Xiao Jinsheng asked.

"No!" Bai Yan looked coldly, "It's so dirty."

"Xiao Jinsheng, are you going to leave or not? If you don't, I will." Bai Yan urged: "When the terminal shelter closes, let's see how you will get back."

"Sister Bai, you go first." Xiao Jinsheng said, taking off his shoes and socks and going down into the mud ditch: "I'll save the puppy and go back myself."

"Xiao Jinsheng, I told you this is a mutant beast."

Bai Yan emphasized that seeing Xiao Jinsheng insisting on going his own way and falling into the mud ditch and getting covered in mud, she took a step back in disgust: "You said you don't need to wait for you, so I'll go back first."

Xiao Jinsheng nodded her head, and coaxed the cub who was watching her warily, approaching carefully: "Little puppy, little puppy, I won't hurt you."

Bai Yan glanced at the girl in the mud ditch, turned around and walked away quickly.

The cub was struggling in the mud ditch, but it was too weak, so it could only let Xiao Jinsheng pick it up and place it on the grass on the shore.

When Xiao Jinsheng climbed out of the mud ditch, the cub, who had recovered his strength on the green grass, shook his head to shake off the mud spots on his body, and limped away.

"Dog, I said I won't hurt you, why are you running away?" Xiao Jinsheng was anxious. She ran over with mud on her feet, lifted up the outermost layer of her skirt, and held the cub in her arms.

The cub struggled and said to Xiao Jinsheng in a childish voice: "Let me go, you are the dog!"

"Oh my God." Xiao Jinsheng was shocked.

But when I think about the fact that I have traveled through time and grown up again, there is no need to be surprised about meeting a talking dog.

"If you can speak human language, then it will be easier for us to communicate." Xiao Jinsheng raised his hand and curiously touched the two soft and rounded corners on the cub's head among the dark and soft hair.

"It's true that no dog has horns. Do you know what kind of animal you are?"

"Why should I tell you?" The cub raised his little head and snorted.

"Do you have a name?" Xiao Jinsheng asked again.

"I won't tell you." The cub bared his teeth.

"Okay, dog." Xiao Jinsheng seemed to compromise.

The cub started to get angry and shook its head wildly at Xiao Jinsheng's face, splashing all the mud on Xiao Jinsheng's face: "Don't call me dog."

"Okay, dog." Xiao Jinsheng hugged the cub tightly, picked up his shoes and socks, and prepared to walk back barefoot.

But the gravel road hurt her feet, and there was no clean water around.

The water in the ditch mixed with mud and was extremely sticky.

Xiao Jinsheng could only pull some grass to wipe the mud off his feet, put on his shoes and socks, and walk back with the cub in his arms.

The cub also realized that she had no bad intentions, so it nestled in her arms obediently, but kept its head raised and looked around alertly.

"Is there anyone who hasn't come back yet?" A robot stood at the door of the closed fortress and called out to Bai Yan who had just come in: "Bai Yan, did Xiao Jinsheng go out with you? Is she back?"

"There is movement outside the shelter. The shelter will be closed at 17: today."

Bai Yan stopped and met the robot's lifeless gaze.

She looked at the time on the star map. It was now 16:50.

The terminal shelter is open from 12 noon to 18:.

The shelter was closed early today. Thinking of Xiao Jinsheng who was still rescuing a puppy in the mud ditch, Bai Yan knew that if Xiao Jinsheng couldn't come back before the shelter closed, he would not be able to enter the shelter tonight.

"Bai Yan?" Seeing Bai Yan silent, the robot asked again.

"She...Xiao Jinsheng came back a long time ago." Bai Yan replied.

"Really?" The robot nodded and reminded, "The shelter will be closed in ten minutes. Xiao Jinsheng likes to run outside. If you see her, remind her not to go out again."

The robot said with some concern: "Forget it, I'll just notify her directly." Seeing the robot click on the star map to contact Xiao Jinsheng, Bai Yan panicked: [System, quick! Change its memory! ]

System: [Received]

System: [Memory skill used successfully, cooldown time 15 days]

"Huh?" The robot that called up the star map looked at the interface with confusion.

It paused for a few seconds and looked towards the empty area leading to the shelter: "Why is Xiao Jinsheng running so fast?"

"Did you just go out?" The robot looked at Bai Yan and said in a businesslike manner: "The shelter will be closed an hour in advance. Don't go out again today."

As it spoke, it marked the names of Xiao Jinsheng and Bai Yan on the list of people going out.

He also warned Bai Yan: "Xiao Jinsheng loves to run outside the most. You and her are neighbors. When you see her later, remind her not to go out today. It's dangerous outside. It will be foggy tonight."

"Okay, I'll remind her." Bai Yan nodded.

She walked slowly inside, looked back at the robot that was already operating the door to close, and clenched her hands at her sides into fists.

It was Xiao Jinsheng himself who wanted to rescue the puppy.

Yes, she was the one who wanted to save the mutant beast.

If she died outside, killed by the cub's parents, it would be all her own fault for not listening.

Only when Xiao Jinsheng dies, no one will be able to stop her in this terminal shelter!

With her mind made up, Bai Yan walked quickly towards her dormitory.

"Wait! I haven't entered yet--"

Xiao Jinsheng held the cub in his arms and ran towards the terminal shelter, panting heavily.

But when she was still 800 meters away from the terminal shelter, the heavy door slowly closed.

Xiao Jinsheng looked at the time on the star map and it was exactly 17: in the afternoon.

She wondered, "There's still an hour left, why is it closed?"

Moreover, the robots in the terminal shelter will count the number of people who go out, and if someone does not come back, the shelter will not be closed even when the time comes.

Xiao Jinsheng arrived outside the tightly closed terminal shelter and knocked on the heavy metal door.

The cub raised its head from her arms and began scratching the door with its claws.

"Forget it, let's not waste our energy." Xiao Jinsheng sighed and sat down on the ground along the cold wall of the terminal shelter.

"For the safety of those inside, once the gate is closed, all the energy of the shelter will be transferred to maintaining survival inside. The people inside will not know the situation outside and can only wait until the gate opens tomorrow."

"You were also abandoned by your family?" the cub asked, looking up.

"I have no family anymore." Xiao Jinsheng said dejectedly.

She has been alone for five years since she came to this world.

Except for Bai Yan, who was picked up by her and brought back to the terminal three years ago.

Xiao Jinsheng opened the star map and sent a message to Bai Yan, but her mental strength at her age could not support the maintenance of the star map for a long time.

Without enough mental strength, the information from the star map cannot be sent out, nor can it be received.

This is also the reason why the Terminal protects all unmarried females in the Misty Continent in the shelter.

Dusk fell and it was dark outside the terminal shelter.

Xiao Jinsheng found a discarded cardboard box and crawled into it with the cub.

She held the cub, whose body was covered in dried mud, and whispered, "Be quiet, we'll hide here tonight."

As soon as he finished speaking, Xiao Jinsheng was slapped on the face by the cub.

The cub nudged her chin, signaling her to look up.

Xiao Jinsheng looked up and saw a corpse dripping with blood staring at her in the gap of the cardboard box.
