Chapter 971 I already paid for the consultation thirty-eight years ago, and I almost ruined the weapon enhancement (two-in-one chapter)
Upon hearing the dialect say it would take six months, Old Master Han's expression instantly became dazed. He stared intently at the other person and asked in a slightly trembling voice:
Are you sure you want it to take six months?
Noticing the old man's emotional fluctuation, Fang Yan quickly added an explanation:
"Mr. Han, we haven't relied on medication the whole time over the past six months. The first two phases were short and focused on conditioning the body and clearing the meridians. In the third phase, you need to cooperate with the medication and actively do rehabilitation training so that we can work step by step toward the goal of standing up again and getting the body back to a state where it can basically move normally."
These words gradually eased the furrowed brows of Old Master Han. He let out a long sigh and nodded slowly.
"I see……"
Having been paralyzed for 38 years, he knows all too well the difficulty of the road to recovery.
Back in the United States, his rehabilitation doctor advised him to stick to his daily training to prevent further muscle atrophy.
Over the years, he has gritted his teeth and repeated the same monotonous actions every day in order to barely maintain his physical condition.
As he grew older, the condition of his left lower limb worsened, and his once faint hope gradually faded away. He had long since resigned himself to spending the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
At this moment, the phrase "half a year" in the local dialect is like a ray of light piercing through the darkness.
For an ordinary person, six months may be a long time, but for a paralyzed person who has struggled in despair for thirty-eight years, this period is incredibly short. It is more like a ticket that fate has handed him again, allowing him to see the possibility of taking control of his body again.
"Then, Dr. Fang, I'll leave the rest to you." Old Master Han nodded solemnly to Fang Yan.
Fang Yan quickly waved his hand: "Mr. Han, you're too kind. This is what we should do."
Then, Fang Yan turned to Han Lao's son and said, "Now you can complete the admission procedures."
"Okay, thank you, Dr. Fang," Han's son replied, and then reached into his pocket to take something out.
Seeing this, Fang Yan quickly stopped him, saying, "There's no need to be so polite."
Old Han's son insisted, "No, no, we've already found out everything. The rules still apply..."
Before he could finish speaking, Fang Yan waved his hand again and said respectfully, "Old Han already paid the 'rules' on the battlefield back then."
Upon hearing Fang Yan's words, Mr. Han and his family immediately understood the deeper meaning.
"After all these years abroad, no one ever mentioned this. But after returning to China, Dr. Fang was the first to remember it," Old Master Han said with emotion, his voice tinged with a touch of wistfulness.
Fang Yan said earnestly, "You are a soldier who protects our country, and you deserve respect no matter what."
Old Han opened his mouth, then suddenly felt that he hadn't really lost out by taking that shot.
He was momentarily speechless. After a few moments, he raised his hand, gave Fang Yan a somewhat awkward military salute, and said, "Thank you!"
Fang Yan nodded at him in response.
Then they left.
After they left, Fang Yan began to supplement the medical records.
At this moment, Du Heng whispered a reminder to Fang Yan:
"Brother Fang, this old man is an officer on the other side. He might have even fought with our people. Is it really appropriate to say that?"
Fang Yan and the others looked at him.
Du Heng said:
"What I mean is, it wouldn't be good if other people heard it."
He said in dialect:
"You're all on the same side, you can't go out and spread rumors and exaggerate, can you?"
"No way!" Du Heng said quickly.
At this moment, Li Zhengji said:
"I think you're overthinking it. The fact that he's able to come here for treatment means the higher-ups haven't thoroughly investigated his background?"
Du Heng was taken aback, and scratched his head:
"That's true..."
Fang Yan smiled, tore off the prescription, and said to him:
"Alright, here's the prescription. Go to the pharmacy and call the next person while you're at it."
Just then, the door was opened.
Yan Yifan, who just left, is back, but there's an old acquaintance with him.
"dialect!"
"Hey, Lao Ji!" Fang Yan looked over at the sound and saw Lao Ji from the Palace Museum.
"I thought you wouldn't arrive until eleven or twelve," Fang Yan said, inviting him inside and gesturing for Du Heng to go to the pharmacy first, but not to call anyone in.
Old Ji walked in and said to Fang Yan:
"I just finished my work there, so I'm coming over right away. By the way, where's what you wrote?"
Fang Yan took out the handbag she had prepared:
"here."
Old Ji was surprised:
"Wow! Such a big bag? I remember they only had a small box before?"
"You mean you even added some repairs?"
Old Ji still vividly remembers Fang Yan's incredible memory and vast knowledge base, so even if Fang Yan were to admit it now, he wouldn't find it surprising.
However, Fang Yan said with a smile:
"There are also two bottles of good wine and two cartons of imported cigarettes for you inside."
Old Ji said:
"Hey, you're being too polite..."
Fang Yan then said with a smile:
"Also, I need you to do me a favor."
"What's up?" Old Ji took the bag and asked curiously.
Fang Yan took out the gold bars he was carrying, along with the written instructions:
"It's a personal matter! Find me a skilled goldsmith and have him make two sets of gold needles according to the techniques on this paper."
Old Ji reached out and took it, saying:
"Let me see..."
Upon seeing the description of the craftsmanship of Maoshan Taoist gold needles in the local dialect, he exclaimed in surprise:
"Good heavens, has your manufacturing process been upgraded? Or is the last one unusable?"
The dialect explanation is as follows:
"The last one didn't achieve the desired effect. This is the proper way to do it. I plan to make two sets of needles for my apprentice. I wonder if the goldsmiths at your Palace Museum can make them?"
Old Ji said:
"Of course we can do it! Our goldsmiths are among the best in the country."
He said in dialect:
"Thank you for your help. Please let me know how much the labor fee is, and I'll pay you right now."
Upon hearing this, Lao Ji glared at Fang Yan:
Are you trying to embarrass me?
"Why would I ask you to give me money?"
After saying that, he waved his hands:
"Alright, I've taken the craftsmanship and materials. I'll make the product for you and bring it over. Stop being so polite."
Seeing his expression, Fang Yan knew that he wouldn't be able to pay the labor fee today.
Actually, he had originally planned to take the opportunity of giving money to get to know the goldsmith.
We might cross paths again in the future.
But given Lao Ji's situation, it's not appropriate to say much in the dialect.
Old Ji had already packed everything up, and then said to Fang Yan:
"Alright, that's done. I'm heading back to the Palace Museum Archaeological Institute right away."
"I'll call you once your things are finished, probably no later than this weekend."
Upon hearing this, Fang Yan cupped his hands in a respectful gesture towards Lao Ji.
"Okay, then it's hard work."
"It's alright! You can take your time with your treatment. I'll be going now." Old Ji agreed, then didn't say anything more and took his leave.
Fang Yan wasn't one to be pretentious, and immediately agreed.
After Lao Ji left, Fang Yan had someone call in the next patient.
The person who came in this time was a Hong Kong businessman I met last time. His surname was Bai, his given name was Bai Xian, and he was thirty-eight years old this year.
His own business wasn't very big, but he married the daughter of a British tycoon and has now taken over her businesses in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, making a name for himself and avoiding the pitfalls of two lifetimes.
Given his circumstances, even if he had built the biggest business he ever had, he wouldn't have been that successful.
As a result, marriage directly led to an increase in assets.
He is a senior colleague of Comrade Xiao Peng, and must have many outstanding qualities.
When Fang Yan last saw him, she felt that he was not very talkative and did not seem like the kind of person who could win a woman's heart through talking.
Moreover, he's not particularly good-looking; he's just average-looking.
The kind of person you might not see even if you search for a long time in a crowd.
Fang Yan believes that he must have exceptional business acumen to have caught someone's eye.
During this meeting, Fang Yan saw him dismiss his assistant and then walk in alone.
The dialect sounds a bit strange; could this person be ill?
"Dr. Fang, we meet again." Bai Xian greeted Fang Yan.
Fang Yan responded to him:
"Hello, Mr. Bai."
After saying that, he looked behind her to make sure no one was coming in, and then asked:
"Are you here to see a doctor?"
Baekhyun nodded, then said to Fang Yan:
"It's something I'm hesitant to talk about."
"..." There was a moment of silence, and the men present instantly understood what was going on.
It's a men's health issue.
He's thirty-eight years old now, and his wife is British, so it's quite normal for him to encounter this kind of problem.
They're here to upgrade their weapons!
It's been a long time since we last met. Come to think of it, the last time we met was...
At this point, Fang Yan didn't need Baekhyun to ask anymore; he addressed the others:
"Please go outside for a moment, I want to speak with Mr. Bai alone."
Baekhyun initially wanted to ask Fang Yan to leave, seeing so many people around him, but he didn't know how to say it.
He was very touched when Fang Yan spoke up on his own initiative.
No wonder everyone likes to see Dr. Fang; his reaction speed is much better than those clueless doctors from Hong Kong.
The others immediately understood; since Brother Fang had spoken, they wouldn't linger there any longer.
Besides, they're all young men now, they don't need this kind of thing at all.
Nothing fancy.
Li Zhengji took the lead, followed closely by Yan Yifan and Song Jianzhong.
The three of them went out quickly.
Once they left, only Fang Yan and Bai Xian remained in the room. Fang Yan pointed to the seats and said:
“Mr. Bai, please sit down. Now you can speak.”
“Okay!” Baekhyun sat down and took out a piece of paper from his pocket, handing it to Fang Yan.
"Dr. Fang, please take a look at this first."
Upon closer inspection, Fang Yan saw a string of characters scribbled on a blank sheet of paper.
Only after careful examination could I recognize that it was a prescription.
"Gecko, dried silkworm moth, epimedium, morinda root, psoralea corylifolia, he shou wu, cynomorium songaricum, cinnamon, jujube, soaked in wine..."
Fang Yan paused after reading it aloud, realizing that this was a prescription for strengthening weapons.
Why would he come to me after he's already received it?
What do you mean?
Not powerful enough?
“Dr. Fang, I’ve been drinking this recipe-infused liquor for three months, and now I’m having problems…” Bai Xian said to Fang Yan.
Fang Yan then suddenly realized.
asked:
"Are you feeling hot and bothered?"
Baekhyun shook his head and said:
"No, after drinking it for three months, I noticed a warm sensation below my navel. About two weeks ago, I started experiencing difficulty achieving an erection after sex. At first, I felt great, after all, this is a privilege of youth, I felt like my youth had returned, but later I felt something was wrong..."
"Something's not right?" Fang Yan asked curiously.
"I felt tightness in my chest, irritability, dry throat and mouth, and I always wanted to drink cold drinks. I was also inexplicably excited about that thing. Later, my urine became more and more yellow, even with a bit of red, and I also had a burning sensation..." Baekhyun responded.
Fang Yan frowned; this was an overdone repair.
From a medicinal perspective, these are mostly herbs that warm and tonify kidney yang. Polygonum multiflorum can tonify the liver and kidneys and replenish essence and blood; jujube can tonify the middle energizer, replenish qi, nourish blood and calm the mind. The whole prescription is used to tonify the kidneys and strengthen yang, and replenish qi and blood.
Traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions must follow the principle of "principal, assistant, adjuvant, and guide" and be precisely formulated according to the user's constitution and condition; otherwise, adverse reactions may occur due to excessive medicinal properties.
The concentration, time, and dosage of the infused liquor can also affect its efficacy and safety. Blindly following these guidelines may lead to poisoning or other health problems.
This prescription should be a modified version of the Zanyu Dan prescription from the Jingyue Quanshu.
It is also somewhat similar to Yougui Wan and Shenqi Wan.
"And then what happened?" Fang Yan asked.
Baekhyun said:
“I went to the old Chinese medicine doctor who prescribed my medicine, and he said that I had drunk too much and needed to stop.”
Fang Yan nodded and asked again:
"Hmm...then what?"
Baekhyun seemed a little reserved when he said this, and could only ask follow-up questions in his dialect.
Then Baekhyun lowered his voice even further, saying in a low voice:
"Then I stopped, but the situation got worse and worse. I felt something was wrong and was afraid that my wife had drugged me, so I went to a Western medicine hospital for a checkup, but everything came back normal."
"Western medicine couldn't find anything wrong, so I went to see other Chinese medicine doctors in Hong Kong. Someone told me that this should be what Chinese medicine calls... 'abnormal BQ'."
"He said that stopping the medicinal wine wouldn't work, so I had to take medicine. But he also said that taking the medicine would only guarantee that I would become weak, not that I could live a normal life in the future, because I had been drinking the medicinal wine for too long, and that to suppress it, I would have to take strong medicine."
"..." Fang Yan was speechless. Is this correct?
If it is indeed a case of strong symptom response, then the advice from the Hong Kong TCM doctor is a typical example of "treating symptoms based on signs," which violates the TCM principle of "treating the root cause of the disease."
The correct treatment should focus on clearing away the excess heat while simultaneously protecting the true Yin.
"And then what?" Fang Yan asked again.
Baekhyun said:
“Then recently, Mr. Tang learned about this matter by chance, so he recommended that I come to the mainland to find you, saying that you must have a solution.”
"Mr. Tang? Mr. Tang Shengming?" Fang Yan asked.
Baekhyun nodded:
"Correct!"
Fang Yan suddenly realized and said:
"Then I do know him."
It seems that Mr. Tang is doing quite well in Hong Kong, and Bai Xian can even talk to him about this kind of thing.
She truly lived up to her reputation as a socialite during the Republic of China era; her methods were unparalleled.
"Dr. Fang, please tell me, what's wrong with me?" Bai Xian asked Fang Yan at this moment.
Fang Yan composed herself and said to him:
"Open your mouth first, let me see your tongue."
"Ah," Baekhyun immediately opened his mouth obediently, allowing Fang Yan to check.
According to the dialect, Baekhyun's tongue was very dry, with a white coating and no saliva.
Moreover, his face had a slight redness, as if he had just finished exercising.
In addition, the lips are a very red color.
In traditional Chinese medicine, this is called "red face and scorched lips".
It means there is "heat" in the body.
Then Fang Yan said to him:
"Take my pulse with your hand."
Bai Xian obediently did as instructed, while Fang Yan took his pulse and asked:
"You haven't drunk that wine anymore, have you?"
Baekhyun said:
"I dare not drink it anymore, but my wife wants me to, so I can only avoid her."
"That foreign woman doesn't care whether people live or die..."
"It's a good thing I couldn't bring her back this time, otherwise I probably wouldn't have made it to see you alive..."
"..." Fang Yan was speechless. It seems that being a foreign son-in-law is not easy.
After checking the pulses in both hands, Fang Yan confirmed that his pulse was wiry, strong, slippery, and large.
Abnormal BQ (strong moderate), yellow urine with blood, chest tightness and irritability, dry mouth with a preference for cold drinks, dry tongue with white coating, flushed face and red lips, and a wiry, forceful, slippery, and large pulse.
These are all obvious signs of heat, indicating an excess of Yang heat.
The Yangming meridian is rich in Qi and blood. Excessive heat in the Yangming meridian may lead to stagnation of Qi and blood, which in turn affects the Sanjiao (Triple Burner).
From the perspective of visceral differentiation, the patient's long-term use of warming and tonifying kidney yang drugs led to the depletion of kidney yin. Yin deficiency could not control yang, resulting in the generation of internal heat.
Kidney yin deficiency leads to malnourishment of liver wood, resulting in hyperactivity of liver yang and the formation of liver fire.
When the heart fire (the sovereign fire) is excessive and combines with the liver and kidney fire (the ministerial fire), it leads to intense heat in the triple burner.
Therefore, the pathogenesis involves the heart, liver, and kidneys, as well as the Qi mechanism of the Triple Burner.
Therefore, this should be: Yangming heat, spreading throughout the three jiaos, a syndrome of intense heat between the sovereign and minister.
The treatment requires clearing the heat of the Yangming channel and directly suppressing the fire of the Triple Burner.
"How is Dr. Fang? Is he that Qiangzhong?" Bai Xian asked Fang Yan.
Fang Yan looked at Bai Xian and said with certainty, "Mr. Bai, your symptoms are indeed 'strong central syndrome' in traditional Chinese medicine."
"Huh? Then can my illness... be cured?" Baekhyun asked anxiously, his eyes filled with panic.
Fang Yan raised her hand to signal him not to rush:
"Please don't worry. This 'strong middle' condition looks like a real illness with excessive yang energy, but it's actually a complex problem of internal deficiency and superficial hyperactivity."
As he spoke, he put away the pulse pillow, picked up a rarely used red and blue pencil, and began to draw a meridian diagram on the medical record. “Your illness stemmed from the fact that at the age of thirty-eight, when you should have been in a state of ‘yin-yang balance,’ you were forcibly disturbed by potent medicines.”
“Gecko strengthens the Mingmen point, Epimedium unblocks the Ren meridian, and cinnamon guides the fire back to its source. If the combination is appropriate, it is a good prescription. However, if you take it for three months in a row, it is just like pouring kerosene into a charcoal brazier. The fire will burn brightly, but the charcoal in the brazier will soon burn out.”
Upon hearing this, Baekhyun was completely taken aback.
"Nothing should be done in excess; too much of anything is as bad as too little," Fang Yan said to him.
After speaking in dialect, he drew a yin-yang symbol on the paper, emphasizing the "yang" part with a pen:
“The Complete Works of Jingyue says, ‘Those who are good at replenishing Yang must seek Yang within Yin.’ Replenishing Yang requires first nourishing Yin to achieve a balance between Yin and Yang. But right now, your Yang energy is excessively strong, almost drying up the Yin fluid in your body.”
"You see, your chest tightness and irritability indicate heat in the upper burner (heart and lungs); dry mouth and tongue indicate excessive stomach fire in the middle burner; and hematuria and painful urination indicate heat accumulation in the lower burner (bladder). This heat evil is like wildfire spreading everywhere, burning terribly in the upper, middle, and lower burners."
"Then... what should we do?" Baekhyun felt like he was about to die, and he was extremely panicked.
At this point, Fang Yan had already taken the prescription slip and was writing and explaining as he went:
"The treatment should proceed in three steps: first, use Baihu Tang to clear the excess heat in the stomach; then, use Daochi San to reduce the fire in the small intestine; and finally, use Dabu Yin Wan to nourish Yin and reduce fire. These three prescriptions work in sequence, which can both extinguish the excessive deficiency fire and preserve the Yin fluid in your body."
“My treatment method will definitely not cause any problems like those Chinese medicine practitioners in Hong Kong say. I guarantee that you will recover fully and your functions will not be affected.”
By this time, Fang Yan had already written down the prescription:
生石膏60g(先煎)、知母15g、生地黄30g、淡竹叶12g、木通6g、黄柏9g、龟甲胶12g(烊化)、猪脊髓50g、川牛膝15g、泽泻9g、生甘草6g。
Decoction method:
Crush the gypsum and decoct it for half an hour first, then add the other herbs and decoct together.
Tortoise shell glue and pig spinal cord will melt in the last 5 minutes.
Take one dose daily, once each in the morning, afternoon (3-5 PM), and midnight (11 PM-1 AM).
"There's a specific time to take the medicine?" Baekhyun's eyes widened, his face full of confusion.
Fang Yan said seriously, "It's not just about the time to take medicine. During the treatment, you must abstain from sexual activity and mutton. You must even avoid bathing between 17 and 19 pm."
This was the first time Bai Xian had heard that there were so many intricacies involved in treating illnesses. However, after hearing Fang Yan say that he was confident of a cure, he felt more at ease and dared to ask further questions:
Are there any explanations or customs behind these practices?
“If you want to get better quickly, you have to follow the rules,” Fang Yan explained. “The Lung Meridian is at its peak during the Yin hour (3-5 am), and the Large Intestine Meridian is at its peak during the Mao hour (5-7 am). During these two hours, the Yang energy just begins to rise, just like the morning dew that can moisten dryness. Drinking medicine that clears heat from the Yangming Meridian at this time will have the best effect.”
He paused, patted his waist, and said:
"The bladder meridian is most active during the Shen Shi (15-17 PM) period. Drinking diuretic and heat-clearing medicine at this time is like going with the flow, allowing the heat to be expelled more quickly through urine."
“The time of Zi (23 PM to 1 AM) is when the first Yang energy is born,” Fang Yan continued. “Drinking Yin-nourishing medicine at this time is like adding new firewood to a dying charcoal brazier, which can steadily replenish the Yin fluids.”
He paused intentionally at this point, glancing at Baekhyun:
"I don't need to elaborate on abstaining from sexual activity, do I? Given your current health..."
Baekhyun quickly waved his hand: "I know! It's mutton... I just ate a few pieces yesterday, it's nothing serious, right?"
After a two-second silence, the speaker asked:
"...How much did you eat?"
"It's just... a few pieces." Baekhyun's voice was weak.
Fang Yan breathed a sigh of relief:
"It's alright, don't eat it for now. Lamb is a hot food, and you're like a red-hot iron pot right now. If you pour hot oil on it, it'll definitely splatter."
Baekhyun's lips twitched, and he nodded hurriedly, "Understood, understood, I absolutely won't eat it!"
He actually ate more than a few pieces, but he didn't dare to say anything more at the moment.
The thought that I had unintentionally flirted with death again made me feel terrible.
“There’s also the Kidney Meridian’s influence during the You hour (17-19 pm),” Fang Yan added. “Taking a bath at this time is like pouring cold water on a red-hot iron. It’s fine for most people, but you have to avoid taking baths at this time.”
Baekhyun readily agreed, saying, "I've got it! I don't usually shower at this time anyway."
Then Fang Yan tore off the sheet and said to Baek Hyun:
"Alright, go and get admitted now. No one will suspect anything given your situation."
