Chapter 799 Their conversation somehow turned into a master-disciple relationship? (Bonus chapter for monthly votes)
When an older person tells a young person that they have long admired their name, it's either true or an exaggeration.
And clearly, given the current state of the dialect, it is not an exaggeration for the elder Jiao Shude to say that he has long admired his name. After all, he just attended the donation meeting today, was interviewed by the media, and has been on television one after another before. It would be difficult for him not to be famous.
"Teacher Jiao, you're too kind!" Fang Yan cupped his hands in a polite gesture.
Previously, the nanny at Director Liao's house claimed to have even better medical skills, but now that she's seen who's actually treating Director Liao, Fang Yan has absolutely no desire to treat Director Liao anymore.
Fang Yan had actually thought that it would be best to become Jiao Shude's apprentice when she first returned to the city.
Of course, plans can't keep up with changes, and at that time, we didn't know where to look for him.
Later, by a twist of fate, he became acquainted with Zhu Liangchun, a doctor of the same name known for his five poisons. This close relationship didn't lead to a romantic one, but instead, through Zhu Liangchun's connections, he became familiar with a group of doctors from Jiangsu.
Fang Yan knew quite well about Jiao Shude's situation.
Jiao Shude was a renowned TCM expert and educator who made outstanding contributions and had a profound influence in the field of TCM.
He was born on May 31, 1922.
I am fifty-six years old this year.
His original name was Jiao Juhui.
My ancestral home is in Shuangliushu Village, Shulu County, Hebei Province, where we were a middle-class peasant family that valued both farming and scholarship.
Although his family is nothing special, his maternal grandfather was a well-known traditional Chinese medicine doctor in the area.
Therefore, he learned traditional Chinese medicine from his maternal grandfather from a young age. After the Japanese invasion of China in 1937, he began to practice medicine with his grandfather, extensively studied ancient and modern medical classics, and systematically learned the processing of Chinese medicine.
In 1940, he was admitted to Tianjin Huaxia Traditional Chinese Medicine Correspondence College and systematically studied traditional Chinese medicine for a year.
He began practicing medicine in his hometown in 1941, at which time he changed his name to Jiao Shude.
He practiced medicine in his hometown for nine years, accumulating a wealth of clinical experience. In 1950, he came to Beijing and opened the "Cide Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic" with his cousin-in-law in Dazhongfu, Qianmen.
Influenced by Yu Yunxiu's speech, he took the senior physician examination of the Health Bureau in 1951 and started working at the Second Municipal Hospital of Beijing, officially beginning his work for the country. Of course, this also conveniently avoided the public-private partnership.
In 1958, he began teaching at the Capital University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Because of his superb medical skills, he was selected to serve as a physician in the Central Health Group in the same year.
After Zhang Cigong passed away in 1959, he took over the daily health care tasks of the leader.
So this person actually still has a teaching position at their school.
Although I rarely went to teach, I am indeed a teacher at Fangyan's school.
So it was absolutely right for Fang Yan to call him "Teacher Jiao" just now.
After that, his life was still on an upward trajectory in history.
And they tend to rise higher as they get older.
In 1984, he was transferred by the Ministry of Health to the China-Japan Friendship Hospital to serve as the deputy director of the Department of Internal Medicine, responsible for establishing the hospital's Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine.
In 1986, he was awarded the title of "National Advanced Worker in Health and Civilization" by the Ministry of Health.
In April 1992, he was named a "Science and Technology Star" by the Science and Technology Commission.
He has been receiving a "special allowance" from the State Council since 1990.
He was included in the Cambridge International Biographical Dictionary in 1994.
In 1994, it won the highest honor, the Gold Medal, at the first World Congress of Traditional Medicine held in the United States.
Historically, he has served as a member of the Academic Committee of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, a professor of traditional Chinese medicine, a chief physician, deputy director of the expert office, and a member of the doctoral degree review committee. He was also a member of the review committee for the first and second major scientific and technological achievements awards, a member of the review committee for the science and technology progress awards, a member of the review committee for science and technology research proposals, an advisor to the Ministry of Health's Drug Review Committee, a member of the National Science and Technology Book Award Committee, and an advisor to the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, among many other positions. He also served as an editorial board member and advisor for several core journals.
Fang Yan read his books, such as "Ten Lectures on Jiao Shude's Experience in Using Medicine" and "Ten Lectures on His Insights into Prescriptions," when he was in school in his previous life. His insect-based medicines were also exceptional in treating arthralgia, and he passed them on to his last disciple, Guan Qingwei, and his son-in-law, Chen Yong.
Guan Qingwei's father, Guan Youbo, was a good friend of Jiao Shude and the first mentor of his son-in-law, Chen Yong. He was also a direct disciple of Zhao Xiwu. Zhao Xiwu and Fang Yan knew each other and had a good relationship. Apart from Professor Cheng, he was the most supportive person at the research institute.
They also provided a lot of help and gave us the green light in many aspects.
So, going around in circles, all the traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in the capital have some connections, more or less.
If you want to get to know people, you can definitely find connections among those around you.
Jiao Shude smiled and said to Fang Yan:
"You are young and promising. You became famous in Beijing at the age of 22. Looking across the country, the only one who can compare to you is Zhu Liangchun, who became famous in Shanghai at the age of 21."
Scratching his head in dialect:
"Oh, Professor Jiao, you're making me feel bad."
Jiao Shude's praise of Fang Yan was partly out of respect for Director Liao. Everyone knows that Fang Yan is one of Director Liao's trump cards, and he had overheard some of the conversation outside while in the study.
Director Liao asked Fang Yan and his group for land, several hundred acres in total.
It's clear that the relationship between the two is definitely not ordinary.
Jiao Shude laughed and said:
"Haha, I happened to be at Xiyuan Hospital this morning. Zhengji and the others were there. I heard Zhengji talk about you. He spoke very highly of you."
Fang Yan bowed to Jiao Shude with his hands clasped in a gesture of respect.
"Li Zhengji is also very capable."
To be honest, Li Zhengji is indeed very capable. He's not much older than me, has a calm personality, keeps a low profile, has superb medical skills, and has been taught by so many famous teachers. Plus, he's also very capable.
Jiao Shude waved his hand and said:
"Zhengji is still a bit inferior to you. He was taught by many famous teachers since he was a child. Over the years, he has always believed that no one among the younger generation of doctors can surpass him. When he heard about you before returning to China for the exam last year, he was very shocked and became much more grounded. Now when I see him, I feel that he is much better than before and is no longer impetuous."
"It seems I've learned quite a bit from you."
Jiao Shude said to Fang Yan with great interest:
"Zhengji said that young friend Fang has a photographic memory and an extremely strong comprehension ability, far exceeding that of ordinary people..."
Upon hearing Jiao Shude praise him, Fang Yan became even more humble, saying:
"Li Zhengji is very low-key at school, and I should learn from him in this respect."
Jiao Shude also looked at Fang Yan with admiration and said:
"Young friend Fang's composure and calmness are truly admirable. There's a reason why he achieved such success at such a young age. Few others could remain so composed at this point. It's truly admirable."
"Speaking of which, I even worked with your grandfather for a while back then..."
As he spoke, Jiao Shude even recounted a story about his past with He Xiu.
At this moment, Director Liao, who was standing to the side, took a sip of tea and then said with a smile:
"Since Dr. Jiao seems to have such a strong affinity for Fang Yan, and we've happened to meet today, I think you should give him some guidance. Fang Yan learns things very quickly. I can't guarantee anything else, but taking him on as a disciple will bring honor to your family."
"Your skills will definitely be carried forward and improved in his hands!"
Jiao Shude and Fang Yan were both taken aback. They hadn't expected that their conversation would turn into a master-disciple relationship.
