Chapter 674 "The Only Luxury Hotel in the Far East", Wave Index 1

Chapter 674 "The Only Luxury Hotel in the Far East", Wave Index 28
I have eaten the food at Jingcheng Hotel several times.

But never went in.

Before the reform and opening up, the Capital Hotel, as a century-old hotel, was mainly responsible for foreign affairs reception tasks and was a "high-end guesthouse" serving foreign affairs activities.

Its operating purpose is centered on service, and all service tasks are directly issued by the superior competent department.

Currently, the guests coming and going are mainly dignitaries from various countries, and it is difficult for ordinary people to enter.

The hotel has been in a relatively closed state for a long time. Its operation is task-oriented. It does not pursue economic benefits and does not conduct cost accounting. It is a typical management model under the planned economic system.

Before, Fangyan was able to eat the food there only because of the coordination between these overseas Chinese businessmen and Director Liao.

Today, I was able to get in because of overseas Chinese businessmen.

The current Beijing Hotel has three main buildings.

The middle building is the oldest, a seven-story French-style building that was renovated in 1917. In its early years, it enjoyed the reputation of "the only luxury hotel in the Far East."

Many important figures have stayed here, such as the founding father Dr. Sun Yat-sen and his wife Ms. Song, as well as the young marshal Zhang Xueliang, the great British writer George Bernard Shaw, the philosopher Bertrand Russell, the Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore, etc.

In 1940, the Sino-French Industrial Bank sold the shares of the Capital Hotel in US dollars. 62% of the shares went into the hands of the Japanese. The French shares were changed to Japanese shares, the chairman of the hotel was replaced by a Japanese, and the managers changed the Capital Hotel into a Japanese club.

After Japan surrendered in 1945, the mayor of Peking, Xiong Bin, took over the Japanese shares of the Capital Hotel. Since then, the Capital Hotel has successively become a reception hotel for the US military, the second guesthouse of the Executive Department of the Military Mediation Office, etc.

In 1949, the "First Banquet of the Founding of the Country" was held here.

The other building is the West Building. The hotel underwent its first expansion in 1954, when a seven-story building was built to the west of the original site.

Finally, there is an East Building, which was started in 1974 and completed in 1975. This was due to the increase in foreign affairs activities, and was expanded again. It was originally designed to have 21 floors, but was later determined to have 19 floors, but was finally completed with 14 floors.

In addition, the 14-story New East Building is currently the tallest building in Beijing.

However, after the completion of the "Dialect Building" of Union Hospital, it is no longer the tallest.

Now that I think about it, it seems a bit presumptuous...

In addition, the two buildings are only one kilometer apart, so they are very conspicuous when viewed from a distance.

But this is not what Fangyan wants to do. Lao Zhou is responsible for paying the money, the official is responsible for the design, and Fangyan is just a name on it.

And by the time the dialect building was completed, the renovation had already begun at the end of the year.

Anyway, it has nothing to do with dialect.

Today Fangyan and his friends came to the west building, which is the old building.

This place was a national hotel that often hosted foreign guests and held large banquets.

The East Building gradually replaced it later, so today's event will be held in the West Building.

It was already late at night and the street lights were on.

After Fangyan got off the bus, he saw that the two buildings in front of him were lit up in gold.

In the cold wind at the door, there was a receptionist wearing a thick coat.

As soon as Fang Yan and the others got off the car, he immediately led them to the lobby of the west building.

Fang Yan whispered to the dean:

"Don't you even check the ID or something?"

The Dean said:

"This isn't my first time here. We're all old acquaintances. You've been on the newspapers and TV so many times. What are you looking for?"

Fangyan suddenly realized what was going on when he heard this.

After the receptionist in front led them into the front hall, two other staff members in national costumes took over.

There are 12 columns standing quietly in the front hall, decorated with red ribbons and garlands, supporting a solemn world.

Fangyan looked up and saw five large lanterns emitting soft and bright light. The warm yellow halo sprinkled on the ground, reflecting a warm atmosphere.

Walk through the lobby and enter the corridor of the banquet hall on the first floor.

There were two staff members leading the way in front, while Fang Yan and the dean followed behind, strolling in the red-carpeted corridor inside.

The large round windows let in the light from outside, and looking out from the bay windows, vehicles were passing by on Chang'an Avenue from time to time, which could be seen clearly from here.

However, the sound insulation is very good and you can hardly hear any sound from outside. It is at least at the level of the inpatient building of Union Hospital.

The dean saw Fang Yan's curiosity and said to him:
"There are guest rooms, a bar, a dance floor, and a barber shop upstairs. Each room has its own bathroom, and each room is equipped with a telephone and heating."

Fang Yan nodded. In fact, he wanted to finish seeing the patient as soon as possible and go home early.

Today when I left, I stewed a turtle and black chicken soup. I don’t know if my family members know when to cook it at the right temperature.

But with my foodie father-in-law around, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Although he is not very good at it, he has no problem controlling the heat.

As they were thinking, the two of them had already arrived at the entrance of the banquet hall. They followed the staff to open the door and walked in.

Then, the music and people's laughter came into Fangyan's ears.

The crystal chandelier in the hall is like a bright starry sky, with countless crystals reflecting colorful light, sprinkling in every corner.

For a moment, it was like entering another world.

Fangyan even seemed a little dazed, thinking he had gone back in time.

He took a deep breath and calmed himself down.

Then I realized that there were already quite a few people in the hall, all gathered in groups of three or five to say hello.

There is a stage in the center of the hall.

There are round tables and seats all around, and each seat has a name on the back of the table and chair.

Everyone can only sit in the seat designated by their number, and it is easy to tell who is absent.

Fang Yan and the dean did not sit down, but were taken directly by the staff to Director Liao who was chatting with others.

"Doctor Fang is here!"

At this time, when someone saw Fangyan, they immediately greeted him.

Fangyan didn't recognize the person at first glance, but he still smiled and nodded to him as a greeting.

Those who are here are either staff members of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council or overseas Chinese businessmen from other places.

Fangyan saw so many people, and he didn't know how many of them needed him for medical treatment. If there were too many people tonight, he would not be able to have the New Year's Eve dinner.

Just see a doctor here.

Director Liao first greeted the dean and Fang Yan, and then introduced loudly to everyone:

"Dear overseas Chinese friends, this is our dialect that can cure all diseases. Doctor Fang, today is the last day, I have invited someone to come for you."

Fangyan's eyelids twitched. It was up to him to say whatever he wanted.

Then the surrounding area became lively and many people gathered here.

They all greeted Fangyan, and it was obvious that they all came to see Fangyan for medical treatment.

Fangyan didn't want to be polite either, as he had to go back to have the New Year's Eve dinner after finishing his work here.

He immediately said to Director Liao:
"So let's find a place to start now?"

Director Liao nodded and agreed immediately:

"Row."

Then he greeted everyone:
"My fellow overseas Chinese friends, let's line up in front of Dr. Fang with our lot numbers according to the order we drew just now."

Fangyan was stunned. This show existed before he came here?
But that's okay. The order is determined by drawing lots, and no one will say who goes first or who goes second.

It all depends on luck to sort the order.

However, this chance to draw lots can only be obtained after negotiating an investment project with Director Liao.

Fangyan quickly found a place to sit down and started the first consultation.

The first one, whose surname is Zhao, came back to Tianjin to worship his ancestors and just came to Beijing this morning to participate in the program. I didn’t expect to get the first one. I am very happy.

Before Fangyan could even ask two questions, someone stuffed a red envelope in his hand:
"Doctor Fang, happy New Year's Eve!"

Fang Yan glanced at the dean and Director Liao standing next to him. They nodded and signaled him to just take it.

Fang Yan then took the red envelope and replied with a smile:

"Happy New Year's Eve, Mr. Zhao, what's the problem?"

At this time, Mr. Zhao said:
"Oh, three years ago, I discovered a small problem..."

He raised his hands, placed them on the table in front of Fang Yan and said:

"My hands tremble uncontrollably, and it gets worse every year. Before I came back, I went to Japan for treatment. They said it was static tremor in both hands. The time interval between the start and end of the tremor in both hands was about 2.5 seconds."

Fangyan looked at his hands carefully and found that they were not trembling.

As for what the Japanese call stationary tremor of the hands, it is probably a term used in their country and I have never heard of it in the dialect.

The patient continued to talk:

"The Japanese doctor said that my problem was related to something in my brain. I didn't quite remember the name at the time, but I just remember doing an EEG test, which said that my alpha wave index was only 28 percent, half of the normal index."

Fangyan knows that, generally speaking, in a quiet, awake and closed-eye relaxed state, the normal proportion of alpha waves in the brain wave is about 50%-75%. So from the conventional standard, an alpha wave index of 50% is relatively closer to the normal range, and is more conducive to the brain being in a better functional state than 28%.

Mr. Zhao's alpha wave accounted for 28%, which is lower than the normal range, indicating that the brain is in a state of relative tension, excitement or fatigue.

When people are under stress, working at high intensity, or feeling anxious, the beta wave activity in the brain increases, which inhibits the production of alpha waves and reduces their proportion. If people are in this state for a long time, they may suffer from problems such as inattention, memory loss, and sleep disorders.

Fang Yan nodded, and Mr. Zhao continued:
"Anyway, I don't really understand what they are talking about. I asked them to treat it, but it didn't work. Now this problem affects my writing, and sometimes it affects my chopsticks when I eat. Anyway, it's very difficult for me to do some delicate work with my hands."

"So after I came back this time, I wanted to find Doctor Fang. Please take a look. I heard that you cured the daughter of the old Zhou family who couldn't be cured by Western medicine abroad. Their foreign doctors even came to China to consult you. I heard that you are still working on the research topic you provided in Japan..."

At this time, Director Liao on the side reminded:

"Ahem... foreign doctors doing research projects are all rumors. They have nothing to do with Doctor Fang. But Zhou Zhaoqin was indeed cured by him."

After hearing this, Mr. Zhao nodded quickly.

Only then did I realize that this kind of thing really shouldn’t be talked about casually.

Looking at the red envelope just now, Fang Yan did not blame him and greeted:
"Okay, let's talk about your problem first. In addition to hand tremors, do you have any other symptoms, such as dizziness, insomnia, chest tightness, etc.?"

Mr. Zhao said hurriedly:

"Yes, yes, yes! Doctor Fang, you are amazing. I do feel dizzy sometimes, and my sleep quality is getting worse every year. I also feel tightness in my chest and sweat when I fall asleep."

Fang Yan said to him:
"Okay, stick out your tongue for me to see."
