Chapter 477 The New Boss
Mr. Cao's original name was Cao Yan. His three underlings were named Liu Daniu, Ma Xiang, and Yi Zetao. Judging from their names alone, Yi Zetao was clearly not in the same league as the other two.

Indeed, this is true. Yi Zetao comes from a middle-class family, and his parents both have legitimate businesses and have at least received a college education. Liu Daniu and Ma Xiang, on the other hand, come from an urban village. One lost his father and the other lost his mother, which resulted in one becoming a violent overgrown child and the other becoming a cowardly scapegoat. They stand there like two sworn brothers.

Cao Yan was six or seven years older than them. He was quick-witted and knew how to make money. He not only knew how to pimp, but also smuggled, sold fake medicine, and ran bars in his early years. In short, he did whatever made money and gradually became the leader of the group of four.

Yi Zetao is smarter than Cao Yan, but he's not as brave. He's prone to panic when things happen, and when he panics, his mind doesn't work as well.

For example, right now, after hanging up the phone, all he could think about was how to get a gun so that the mysterious person who sounded so powerful could kill Lawyer Zhou. Normally, Yi Zetao would have realized that if the mysterious person was really that powerful, he wouldn't be unable to even get a gun.

Gun control is indeed strict in China, but there are always a few dishonest people in their village who don't obediently hand over the firearms left over from the past, and some even privately manufacture homemade guns, causing harm to the local area.

Liu Daniu's uncle's second uncle's cousin's brother had a replica of a Type 64 pistol, which he had shown off to them before. They had always remembered this and were thinking that if they ever ran into trouble, they would borrow the gun from that guy.

These types of pistols are common on the black market because of their simple structure and ease of imitation.

Urged by Yi Zetao, Liu Daniu called his uncle, who then called his second uncle, who then called his cousin, and finally his cousin called his brother, introducing them one by one in an attempt to appear closer.

Yi Zetao was so anxious that his eyes almost popped out, while Liu Daniu was still calmly making a phone call. He felt that now that Cao Yan was dead, it was his turn to be the boss. He asked the three of them if they had any courage like him.

But just now Yi Zetao clearly didn't take him seriously and even dared to tell him to shut up. Now he has to teach Yi Zetao a lesson and let him know who is the one who can really get things done!

He made phone calls for two hours straight before finally getting in touch with the person in question. He then chatted for another half hour about everyday things, even promising to lend the other person money, until Yi Zetao couldn't resist trying to grab the phone. Only then did he get down to business and ask if he could borrow the gun.

"Nothing much, just used to scare a troublemaker I recently encountered..."

Liu Daniu explained, but the reply he received was that the gun had already been sold and the other party no longer had a gun.

Liu Daniu was at a loss. Just as he was about to hang up the phone and think of another way, Yi Zetao nudged his arm and said, "Ask him who he sold it to!"

"Are you teaching me how to do something?"

Liu Daniu glared at the second brother, then gripped the landline receiver and asked, "Brother, who did you sell it to? Can you help me make a connection?"

The other party said that he couldn't disclose the client's information, otherwise how could he continue to operate in the underworld? Yi Zetao had no choice but to interject, promising to pay the agency fee and even treat him to a meal to give him face. The other party then changed his tune, saying that heroes cherish heroes and that it wasn't impossible to introduce them to some old acquaintances.

So, Liu Daniu's uncle's second uncle's cousin's brother organized a dinner party, inviting the buyer and Liu Daniu and others to eat. Of course, Yi Zetao paid for it. Halfway through the meal, the organizers, clutching their stomachs, slipped away, leaving only the buyer and Liu Daniu and the others alone.

After some less-than-friendly negotiations, Liu Daniu and the others learned from the buyer that the gun had been resold again, this time to a hunter in the village.

So Liu Daniu and his men went to visit him late at night, intending to take a forceful approach and snatch the gun directly from his hands.

Liu Daniu led the way, kicking down the door and bursting in. The hunter pointed a gun at his head, and he immediately became docile. He knelt on the ground with a thud, explaining his purpose, but unsurprisingly, the hunter refused him and kicked him out of the house.

This is where Yi Zetao's quick thinking came into play. He suggested that they lie in wait nearby, and when the hunters went out, they would sneak in and steal the guns.

Liu Daniu disagreed, feeling that doing so was too cowardly; stealing chickens and dogs was not the act of a hero.
Yi Zetao shut him up with one sentence: "Once I steal the gun, who will be the real hero?"

Liu Daniu fell silent and obediently followed behind him. The three of them hid in the bushes outside the village, keeping an eye on the hunter's house and waiting for the hunter to come out.

Just as Liu Daniu settled down, Ma Xiang started causing trouble again. One minute he said he was hungry, the next he said he needed to use the outhouse. After finally relieving himself, he said there were mosquitoes in the grass that were biting him and making him itchy all over. He also said that the foxtail grass was causing him an allergic reaction...

Yi Zetao was thoroughly exhausted, and he finally understood why Cao Yan wasn't hiring anymore. Managing just three people was already a nightmare; if he were to hire another idiot, how would they possibly survive?

Finally, afternoon arrived, and the hunters finally went out, though no one knew what they were up to. They crept over furtively, and Ma Xiang used a wire to pick the locks, ransacking the place. This alerted the neighbors, and a group of people shouted "Thief!" and surrounded them.

Fortunately, Yi Zetao found a pistol in time. He released the safety and fired a shot into the air. The crowd immediately scattered, presumably to call the police.

The three dared not linger and hastily made their escape.

Yi Zetao stuffed the pistol into his coat, wrapped it tightly, and jogged all the way back to the city in a minivan. He found a small, unnamed hotel to stay in, called Yuan Yuzi, and told her to come and pick up the gun.

"Are you sure it's clean? Could this gun be linked to some kind of case?" Yuan Yuzi asked in a deep voice.

"Absolutely clean!"

Yi Zetao is talking nonsense. He fired a shot in the urban village, which must have alerted the police. The entire city's police are looking for this gun. If he doesn't act quickly, he'll be spending the rest of his life in jail.

“Okay, wrap the gun in newspaper and throw it in the trash can by the roadside in Evergreen Park. I’ll send a kid to get it.”

Genji is clever; she pretends to be an adult to avoid being looked down upon again.

If Yi Zetao were of sound mind, he should have realized something was wrong by now. The other person's accent sounded like a little girl, and now they were saying they would send a child to fetch it. It's possible that the other person was a child.

Unfortunately, he was now sweating profusely with anxiety, and when he heard the police sirens outside the small hotel, he was too scared to utter a sound, fearing that the police would break down the door and arrest him.

Liu Daniu mocked him for being useless, but he didn't care at all. As long as he could resolve the current crisis and live out the rest of his life in peace, he was willing to pay any price.

The three set off again, sneaking towards Evergreen Garden, where they wrapped the pistol in newspaper and, as agreed, threw it into the designated trash can.

At this moment, Yi Zetao finally came to his senses. He suggested that they stay near the park and follow the child with the gun to see who the mysterious person behind it all was. Having already gone this far, he was extremely uneasy, worried that the mysterious person might be unreliable. Liu Daniu and Ma Xiang had no objections; they were also curious about who the mysterious person who had called them was.

The three sat at a roadside stall, pretending to be customers. Each ordered a bowl of hot dry noodles and pretended to slurp them, while secretly observing the situation.

They waited for ages before the child finally came to collect the gun—it turned out to be a little girl, they had thought it was a boy.

On second thought, they realized that letting the little girl get the gun was a clever idea, since no one would suspect that a little girl was hiding a gun.

Yi Zetao and Liu Daniu exchanged a glance, and, as if on cue, stood up, intending to secretly follow them to find out what was going on.

But after taking only a few steps, they realized that one of them was missing. When they turned around, they saw that Ma Xiang was still thinking about asking the boss for a bowl of eggnog.

Liu Daniu couldn't stand it anymore, so he went up and slapped Ma Xiang on the back of the head, saying in a harsh voice, "It's always you who messes things up. We're doing serious business, and you're in the mood for eggnog?"

"I... I guess I won't go?" Ma Xiang said awkwardly.

"Go! Don't make me slap you!" Liu Daniu said, pointing at Ma Xiang's nose.

Yi Zetao urged him a couple of times, and Ma Xiang reluctantly got up.

None of the three had any experience in tailing, so they boldly followed behind Yuan Yuzi, one in front and one behind. If Yuan Yuzi turned around, they would look up at the sky and down at the ground, with one of them pretending to be in a daze. Once Yuan Yuzi continued walking forward, they would quickly follow.

The group walked and stopped intermittently. As they passed the alley entrance, Yuan Yuzi suddenly turned and darted into the alley like a rabbit. Yi Zetao and the others were startled and quickly gave chase. Just as they entered the alley, they heard the sound of a pistol being cocked.

The three looked closely and saw that Yuan Yuzi was holding a Type 64 pistol. Her grip was far superior to theirs, and her face was unusually serious, like that of a seasoned veteran. Her innocent and carefree demeanor had vanished in an instant.

"Who are you?" Gen Tamako demanded, gun in hand. "Why are you following me?"

Even someone as bold as Liu Daniu was stunned at this moment. He had sharp eyes and immediately noticed Yuan Yuzi's hand holding the gun. The other party had the safety off and his finger was not on the trigger, which clearly meant he was not a novice and might be a tough one... If he tried to act recklessly now, he might not even know how to spell the word "death" for himself.

In the chaos, Liu Daniu and Ma Xiang turned around at the same time to look at Yi Zetao. Although the others were not convinced, Yi Zetao was indeed more like the boss than the other two.

Yi Zetao composed himself, swallowed hard, and said with an awkward smile, "No, don't misunderstand, we're Boss Cao's brothers. This gun of yours is what we got..."

Yuan Yuzi remained vigilant. She glanced behind the three of them to make sure no one was passing by before continuing to ask, "Why are you following me?"

"Well, we were a little worried, so we came along to ask if there was anything else we could help with..."

Yi Zetao rubbed his hands together like a fly, acting like a waiter recommending dishes to a customer: "Look at my brother here, he's so strong, all muscle, one of him can take on four; and look at my other brother, he's a bit skinny, but he has a special skill, he can open any lock, and his hand skills are amazing... The guy behind you will definitely need our help."

Liu Daniu was quite displeased. He had been hoping that Yi Zetao would stand up for himself, but he didn't expect that the guy would just kneel down. It seemed that he was planning to switch sides and recognize someone else as the new boss.

Brother Cao's body is barely cold, and he's already thinking about switching jobs. That's so disloyal!
Thinking of this, Liu Dani patted his chest, wanting to show his backbone and teach this young girl what true brotherhood in the underworld meant. Unexpectedly, Yuan Yuzi thought he was about to attack, immediately turning her gun around and aiming it at his forehead, startling Liu Dani into a cold sweat. He hastily changed his tune, saying, "Uh, right! If the boss tells me to go east, I'll never go west!"

Yuan Yuzi was taken aback: "Who's your boss?"

Ma Xiang knelt down with a thud. If he hadn't been wary of Yuan Yuzi's gun, he would have pounced on her and hugged her legs: "Your boss is our boss! Although I haven't met her yet, I'm sure she must be a heroic woman. I'm willing to serve her wholeheartedly, even if it means going through fire and water, I won't even flinch!"

Yi Zetao thought to himself, "You're talking nonsense! If it really came down to fire and water, you'd be the first to run! You were so reluctant to come over just now, but now you're kneeling down in front of a little girl. You have no backbone at all! Bah!"
He was afraid that Yuan Yuzi would misunderstand and that he had no intention of kneeling down to beg for mercy. He was just a little tired of standing, so he squatted down with his hands behind his head, and the smirk on his face never changed: "That's what I meant too. With Boss Cao gone, we're missing a leader now!"

Liu Daniu was dumbfounded. Both of his brothers had knelt down. If he didn't kneel down when they really wanted to switch jobs, it would seem like he was disrespecting them!

How to do?
Before he could figure out whether saving face or being the new boss was more important, Yuan Yuzi spoke up and asked directly, "Do you know how to use guns?"

Ma Xiang was the first to respond, boasting, "Who can't do that? I hit the bullseye every time!"

Yi Zetao and Liu Daniu nodded in agreement, indicating that they both knew how to use guns.

Upon hearing this, Yuan Yuzi let out a "hmph," took a few steps back, and said, "Then you don't mind if I check the gun, right? If there's something wrong with the gun, that would be troublesome."

"No problem at all, please go ahead," Yi Zetao said with a smile.

Yuan Yuzi maintained a safe distance and, in front of the three of them, skillfully disassembled the firearm. In just a few moments, she took a pistol apart into a pile of parts, carefully inspected it, and then reassembled it in a dozen seconds. She even skillfully pulled the breech.

Hmm, Fushimi-kun's dream is so realistic, even the gun looks real...

These passersby are so real; their expressions of fear mixed with obsequiousness feel just like real people…

After a moment of reflection, Yuan Yuzi lowered the muzzle of her gun and said, "There's something wrong with the chamber; it seems to have been hand-forged. The cartridge cases are also incorrect; they're reloaded rounds, which have a high probability of jamming or exploding... Do you have any better guns?"

The three of them were dumbfounded, looking at each other in bewilderment, none of them uttering a word, the same question involuntarily popping into their minds.

...Just who is this little girl?
