Tokyo: Rabbit Police and Her Evil Partner

Chapter 406 Smoking Addiction

Chapter 406 Smoking Addiction
After the court hearing, Fujiwara Homare was rushed to the hospital. He was fine, except for two holes in his palms. When Mr. Yoshikawa failed to strike, he pulled out the hole and tried to stab again, but Fujiwara Homare blocked it with his other hand. In a sense, Fujiwara Homare has become an immortal by cosplaying a popular historical figure.

Director Fujiwara paid Kikuta a large sum of money as the final payment. Although both of them knew who came up with the argument and who organized the logic, they did not reveal the truth and remained silent.

Mr. Yoshikawa was detained for attempted murder in court, a particularly heinous offense, and he is expected to be severely punished. Director Fujiwara doesn't intend to pursue the matter; as long as his son isn't dead or in jail, a hole in his palm is nothing, in fact, the kid deserves it. He had warned him many times before not to drink excessively, not to go to brothels, and not to have affairs, but Fujiwara Yu just wouldn't listen.

Now, he only hopes that Fujiwara Homare will learn a lesson.

Mrs. Yoshikawa had first lost her daughter, and now she was about to lose her husband. Minamoto Tamako couldn't even imagine how difficult it must have been for them. She stood in the courtroom, waiting for the police to enter, for paramedics to carry the stretcher, for people to come and go, for the noise to give way to silence, and for the courtroom to remain a courtroom after the proceedings were over.

Solemn and dignified, standing silently.

When the sun rises tomorrow, the judges, who have been working overtime all night, will yawn as they walk through this door. Who knows who will suffer injustice or unfairness and plead for final justice here?

Genji's mind was in a mess, and by the time she came to her senses, Fushimi Shika was no longer in the audience.

She took out her pink flip phone, ready to call Fushimi Shika, but after pushing open the door, she found Fushimi Shika squatting on the curb outside the courthouse with her back to her.

"Why didn't you call me when you came out..."

As Minamoto no Tamako was speaking, she quickly walked over and noticed that smoke was rising from Fushimi Shika's head. She immediately exclaimed in surprise, "Why are you on fire?"

Fushimi Shika subconsciously turned around. He was holding a cigarette between two fingers, and two puffs of white smoke were coming out of his nostrils. He looked completely bewildered: "What's on fire?"

Minamoto no Tamako's eyes widened, her expression like a cat seeing a mouse or a dog seeing poop. With lightning speed, she pounced on Fushimi Shika, snatched the cigarette from his hand, and shouted, "How could you smoke?!"

"I'm an adult, why can't I smoke?" Fushimi Shika took the cigarette from her hand and put it back in his mouth. "What man doesn't smoke?"

“My dad doesn’t smoke!” Yuan Yuzi ignored the heat, clapped her hands together to quickly extinguish the sparks, and the cigarette in Fushimi Shika’s mouth deflated.

"Your dad didn't live as long as your mom..."

Fushimi Shika realized he had gone too far, so he swallowed the rest of his words and instead said, "Don't Kazama and Watanabe smoke too? Why don't you mention them?"

“That’s different!” Gen Tamako was very unhappy.

"What's different?" Fushimi Shika asked rhetorically.

“It’s just different! I can’t control others, but…” Yuan Yuzi hesitated, unable to say the words 'but you can’t.’

Seeing her embarrassed expression, Fushimi Shika's irritation finally eased a little. He casually spat out half a cigarette, turned around, and grinned, "But what?"

"No, nothing..."

"Why can't others interfere? Aren't I someone else?" Fushimi Shika asked, tilting his head like a primary school student, chasing after Minamoto no Tamako's turned face.

Minamoto no Tamako was equally distraught. She didn't want to joke around with Fushimi Shika; this was a very serious matter. Cigarettes were a major cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), gradually declining lung function and leading to symptoms like difficulty breathing—she didn't want Fushimi-kun to become a timid, breathless idiot after just a few steps! Furthermore, smoking significantly increased the risk of lung cancer; over 90% of lung cancer cases were related to smoking. She didn't want Fushimi-kun to die young, develop cancer from smoking, wail in a hospital room, go bald from chemotherapy, and ultimately die a painful death.

Moreover, the trial had just ended, and both the plaintiff and the defendant were in dire straits. As a law enforcement officer, how could she remain uninvolved? How could she possibly be in the mood for laughter and jokes?
Genji immediately removed one of Fushimi Shika's seals and demanded that Fushimi Shika accompany her to visit Fujiwara Homare and Mr. Yoshikawa, and hand over the recording to inform them of the truth.

"What's the point of doing this?" Fushimi Shika tapped the cigarette case and took out another cigarette.

“The Yoshikawa couple have the right to know the truth!” Gen Tamako said earnestly, snatching the cigarette from his mouth.

"And then what? Make them even more upset?" Fushimi Shika asked, pulling out another cigarette.

“Sadness is always better than hatred!” Yuan Yuzi snatched the cigarette pack away and said earnestly, “Even white lies can have bad consequences. Mom is right, the most important thing in life is honesty!”

"Why are you telling me this? Go tell Attorney Kikuta! I think he's awful. In court, he's all talk and no action, twisting the truth and only thinking about getting his client acquitted, ignoring the facts. He's obviously dishonest..."

Fushimi Shika meticulously listed Kikuta's crimes and harshly criticized the moral standards of Japanese lawyers.

“Don’t say that, Attorney Kikuta… he was just protecting his client’s rights.” Although Minamoto Tamako was very unwilling, she had matured a lot and understood many things: “He didn’t break the law, so he didn’t do anything wrong.”

Fushimi Shika was taken aback; he hadn't expected Minamoto no Tamako to give such an answer.

"Let's go, stop dawdling."

Minamoto Tamako desperately wanted to untangle the knot in Yoshikawa and his wife's hearts. She knew that sometimes the truth was a sharp knife, and as long as it could cut away the rotten flesh of hatred, it was worth the pain—she didn't want this meaningless hatred to continue.

Fushimi Shika reluctantly got up, paid the taxi driver a large parking fee, and took the car with Minamoto Tamako to the detention center, making a detour to the recording studio along the way. Mr. Yoshikawa had just entered when they arrived, and, as detectives, asked the local police station to make an exception and allow them to conduct the interrogation in a different location.

Out of respect for Commander Kujo, no one in the police station dared to refuse.

Two detectives brought Mr. Yoshikawa into the interrogation room and, at Minamoto Tamako's request, borrowed a tape recorder and placed it on the table.

"This isn't a formal interrogation, there's no need to take notes, it has no legal effect, it's just a chat..."

After speaking, Minamoto no Tamako suddenly realized that she seemed to have heard Kazama-senpai and Fushimi-kun say the same thing before. Now, she could actually recite those words fluently without even a hint of unease.

“Nothing you say will make a difference,” Mr. Yoshikawa said, his face ashen and showing no remorse. The murder weapon he brought in was tempered glass, and the murder was premeditated. “I’m a first-time offender, and I’ll only get twenty years at most… After I get out of prison, I’ll make him pay with his life.”

"Uh, yes, perhaps we... are not in a position to advise you to forgive, but..."

Yuan Yuzi sat opposite him, looking slightly uneasy. She swallowed and continued, "I hope you can hear her last wishes."

After saying that, she inserted the cassette tape into the tape recorder and pressed the record button.
