This is not how immortals cultivate
What does Chapter 511 mean? Am I playing Tang Sanzang?
What does Chapter 511 mean? Am I playing Tang Sanzang?
Xiniuhezhou, Lingshan.
Xiang Yuan leaped across what was probably the single-plank bridge of Lingyun Ferry, and from high above, he saw a boatman rowing a bottomless boat.
The boatman said that the auspicious purple clouds coming from the east must mean a distinguished guest, so he immediately bowed and then swayed away in his boat.
"Who...who is this Buddha again?"
Xiang Yuan raised an eyebrow. With his keen eyesight, he could tell that this boatman had an extraordinary appearance. He was neither a cultivator nor someone with divine power, but a genuine high-ranking Buddhist monk with a certain level of attainment.
It is real, not a fabricated creation.
Lingshan is real!
Even if it's not completely true, it's the closest to the truth, far superior to the makeshift operation under the Jade Emperor.
At the foot of Lingshan Mountain, the water of Babao Pond is so clear that you can see the bottom, lotus flowers are in full bloom, and auspicious clouds swirl around.
The pond water is as clear as a mirror; legend has it that a sip can wash away worldly troubles and purify the soul. Nine-petaled golden lotuses grow in the pond, each flower embodying Buddhist teachings. Whenever the morning bell rings, the lotuses sway in the breeze, emitting a faint Buddhist light.
On Mount Ling, the Great Thunder Temple stands resplendent in gold and green, with incense smoke swirling and the sounds of bells and chimes ringing out day and night.
The temple is vast and boundless, with lotus platforms floating in the air. The true forms of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas sit upright, sometimes rising, sometimes falling, sometimes ascending, sometimes descending. They are real yet ethereal, each with a peaceful smile, listening to the Buddha's thunderous teachings.
Xiang Yuan couldn't quite understand the truth or falsehood of these Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, or Arhats and Bhikkhus.
It can be real, or it can be fake; it exists in the past and future, and it is striving to move towards the present...
Too idealistic, Xiang Yuan shook his head and stopped thinking about it.
In conclusion, the existence of Buddha on Mount Ling is both real and unreal.
The Buddha sits serenely on a lotus throne, the revered teacher of all Buddhas. His eyes are slightly closed, his face is compassionate, and he gently holds a golden Udumbara flower in his hand, as if he has become one with heaven and earth.
Upon seeing Xiang Yuan step onto the Great Thunderclap Temple, the Buddha rose from his lotus platform and bowed slightly, saying, "It is indeed the Great Emperor himself; this humble monk has failed to greet you properly."
His voice was somewhat weak, and upon closer inspection, the gold paint on the Buddha's body was mottled, as if he had suffered some serious injury and might be going to the Western Paradise in another way at any time.
It's not surprising. He single-handedly stormed the Thirty-Six Heavens, slaughtered all of the Heavenly Emperor's avatars, and wiped out the entire Heavenly Court pantheon of the Celestial Realm. It's impossible for him to have suffered no losses. Therefore…
When putting on a show, one must go all out. The Buddha's acting skills and the actor's self-cultivation are both impeccable.
Unless he was the one playing the victim, Xiang Yuan hated it most when others played the victim. He cursed his bad luck inwardly, looked around, and then said, "I have come to see the Buddha to discuss some important matters. This place is crowded and noisy. Is there any other quiet place on Mount Ling?"
“Everywhere in Lingshan is a place of tranquility.”
With a flick of his finger, the Buddha caused the boundless light to converge and become one. The numerous illusory lotus platforms disappeared, and as flowers and leaves alternated, another layer of heaven and earth unfolded.
Not only the Great Thunderclap Temple, but the entire Ling Mountain is like this, with layers upon layers of interconnected spaces, truly achieving the concept that Mount Sumeru is hidden in a mustard seed, and that every flower and leaf contains Bodhi.
To outsiders, Mount Ling is a paradise on earth, existing in Xiniu Hezhou, but not everyone can see or find it. To find Mount Ling, one must first have Mount Ling in one's heart.
Xiang Yuan held two opinions on this low-key pretentious behavior. From Ji Wuzhou's perspective, Buddha was an honest person; from the other people's perspective, Buddha was a show-off.
You might say he's high-profile, but he's actually quite low-key. You might say he's pretentious, but he's really good at it!
He had the capital to show off. Gazing at the magnificent Thunderclap Temple in the distance, he marveled at the Buddha's wealth, even he had his own ideas.
The Buddha seemed to have discerned something and smiled slightly: "Does the Great Emperor admire Buddhism and wish to cultivate a lotus platform on Mount Ling?"
"Then there's no need, I don't understand Buddhism."
"The Emperor is too modest."
The Buddha's smile remained unchanged, his face radiating a dazzling light of wisdom: "This humble monk dares to ask, Great Emperor, is it truly just the Great Emperor who has come today?"
"The whole area has been cleared out, what do you say?"
Xiang Yuan shrugged, clenched his fist, and coughed lightly: "The Jade Emperor is the one everyone wants, and we can't ignore his face. This is the foundation for Qianyuan Realm to grow stronger. It's good that Buddha knows who I am, but he can't reveal it. For example, I never call myself the Heavenly Emperor."
"Your Majesty possesses great wisdom; this humble monk has learned much."
The Buddha nodded, clasped his hands together in front of his chest, and after confirming his identity, he was fine.
But then the Buddha reached out and pointed again, and amidst the blooming and falling of flowers, he and Xiang Yuan arrived at the foot of an ordinary Bodhi tree.
Good heavens! When the Great Emperor came, he was entertained at the Great Thunder Temple, but when the Heavenly Emperor came, a private room was immediately arranged for him. Buddha, you are too pragmatic!
The shape of the Bodhi tree looked somewhat familiar. Xiang Yuan stroked it and realized it looked exactly like the one that Lingxiu had kicked down.
If I remember correctly, when Abbot Huixing was possessed by demons, Lingxiu mustered her mighty Vajra Leg, her eyes filled with tears, and kicked her master in the face. Not only did it send sparks flying, but it also broke a Bodhi tree on the back mountain of Dajue Temple.
Another filial apprentice!
Xiang Yuan gave Ling Xiu a look of utter contempt. They were all disciples, and he had never fought against the three... uh, the two masters.
He never spoke ill of anyone behind their back, always maintained a respectful attitude towards Frieza, and showed the utmost respect for the broken sampan, even personally carrying it onto the throne of the Jade Emperor.
Lingxiu is no good; she's far inferior to him.
Thinking of this, Xiang Yuan couldn't help but wonder, how did Buddha deal with such a rebellious person as Lingxiu? Could it be... that he arranged for her to undergo eighty-one tribulations?
To be honest, Lingxiu, that pretty boy, does have some of the potential to become the Imperial Brother.
The question is, who will play the Tang Emperor, and who will become sworn brothers with the Imperial Brother?
There is no Li Tang dynasty in the Qianyuan Realm. The Heavenly Emperor is unwilling to alter the will of all living beings, and a Li Tang dynasty will not appear in the future.
Could it be Liu Che?
Good heavens, they're father and son, swearing brotherhood? Is that even reasonable?
Want to see it!
Hakimi was itching to get out of it. Xiang Yuan couldn't stand it anymore. He put aside the shameless majesty of the Heavenly Emperor and, taking advantage of the fact that no one was around, asked Buddha to give a spoiler about how much suffering Lingxiu would have to endure during the eighty-one tribulations.
If you're worried about gossip, no problem. If you're reluctant to do it, that's fine too; as his uncle, he can do it for you.
The journey to the West was a key project jointly undertaken by the Heavenly Court and Mount Ling. It was in accordance with the rules and procedures for the Heavenly Emperor of Gouchen Shanggong, the Great Emperor of Dongji Qinghua, and the Great Emperor Zhenwu to take action.
Xiang Yuan asked with a smile. There were no outsiders here, so he could speak his mind directly. He knew that abbots were all petty.
"Your Majesty is joking. Lingxiu is not my disciple. I only received some guidance by chance. He is studying the 'Three Thousand Scrolls of the Future' of Dajue Temple and is already in the future. Since he is not in the present, how can he take on the important task of obtaining the scriptures?" Buddha said slowly.
Xiangyuan: (一''一)
Wait a minute, what do "the future three thousand volumes" and "being in the future" mean? I don't understand.
On second thought, that powerful, heavy Vajra Kick, aimed straight at the face, does seem to have some merit.
As for the specifics of the explanation, it involves the internal organizational work of Buddhism, and as an outsider, I won't speculate on that.
Xiang Yuan took a deep breath. It seemed that Abbot Huixing's acceptance of disciples was indeed justified. He took out a futon and sat down under the Bodhi tree. He felt that the feng shui of this place was excellent and very suitable for Buddhist practice. Just by sitting still, his cultivation of the six-syllable mantra increased rapidly.
The compressed file copied from Guanyin Bodhisattva also decompressed much faster.
After a moment's thought, Xiang Yuan took out the Nine-Grade Golden Lotus. This thing was originally the Blood Sea Golden Lotus. He suppressed it with the Six-Character Mantra and dispersed the blood color. Later, with the help of the Nine-Grade Lotus on the back mountain of Dajue Temple, it gradually transformed into its current form.
"Buddha, is there any explanation for this object?"
"The Great Emperor possesses great potential and is destined to be connected with Buddhism."
"..."
Do you Buddhists always praise people in such a... direct way?
Let's just say, isn't the phrase "having great potential" a bit too obscure?
Xiang Yuan didn't believe in the idea of being destined to be with Buddha. After falling into so many traps and being taken advantage of so many schemes, if any high-ranking monk dared to tell him about being destined to be with Buddha again, he would definitely give him a good slap.
Unless you can't beat it.
Unless it's Guanyin Bodhisattva.
Xiang Yuan sighed: "Buddha, I consider you one of my own. I not only gave you the divine position of the Western Buddha, but also the principles of Heaven, and let you sit at the shareholders' table when you eat. Your scheming, trying to drag me onto the Buddhist chariot, is somewhat petty and suspicious."
"Your Majesty has misunderstood. It is truly the Heavenly Emperor... We must be wary of him!"
The Buddha explained his predicament: the Heavenly Emperor is a fickle person; once he's done his bidding, he turns his back on you, so it's best to be on guard.
Xiang Yuan rolled his eyes and continued, "If I'm not mistaken, the Golden Wheel of Merit left behind to suppress the extraterrestrial demons that year, as well as these six words of mantra, were both from the Buddha's hand, right?"
"This humble monk is dull and cannot understand what the Great Emperor is saying?" The light of wisdom on Buddha's face disappeared instantly, and he looked rather dim.
I wouldn't believe you!
In his early years, Xiang Yuan was forcibly indoctrinated with Buddhism by Ling Xiu, but he felt it was a trap. So he found Layman Bai Yue and gave away his opportunity to learn Buddhism. It was through this Dharma that Layman Bai Yue said, "When you understand your mind and see your true nature, the lotus will bloom on its own," which led to his later enlightenment.
The second opportunity to forcefully offer Buddhism was the six-syllable mantra. Xiang Yuan thought that if he threw it again, there would be a next time, so he was too lazy to struggle and let Paru practice Buddhism.
If anything is wrong, sacrifice Palu.
Looking back, these acts of forcibly bestowing Buddhist opportunities were clearly related to the Buddha. Even if he didn't act personally, he was secretly guiding them, so...
“Buddha, you are too greedy. Being a shareholder is not enough. You even want to be my master.”
Xiang Yuan's expression turned playful: "I just don't know whether Buddha wants to be my master or my master. If it's the latter, Buddha has narrowed his path!"
Faced with Xiang Yuan's frank and slanderous behavior, Buddha remained calm and smiled: "I hope the Great Emperor knows that there is indeed a master-disciple relationship between us, and it is not that this humble monk sought out the Great Emperor, but rather that the Great Emperor sought out this humble monk."
"???"
"The fact that the Great Emperor has become my disciple has existed throughout the three thousand worlds and is already a settled matter!"
"What does this mean? You bald monk, explain yourself clearly!"
Hearing the certainty in the Buddha's words, Xiang Yuan understood even less.
"Does Your Majesty know when this humble monk appeared in the Qianyuan Realm, and from where he learned of the Qianyuan Realm?"
Seeing that Xiang Yuan's pretty face was longer than a donkey's, and that he couldn't take a joke, Buddha stopped cryptic and pointed to a spot in front of him, where a golden light screen was projected.
In the scene, a handsome young man with delicate features and a somewhat youthful face is rummaging through a tomb.
Instead of finding the treasure, they dug up an old rice dumpling.
After a heated exchange of opinions, the pretty boy obtained the Jade Wall Yanfu Sect and a bodyguard named 'Senior Jiang'.
Upon seeing this, Xiang Yuan's mouth gaped open. He pointed at Buddha, then at Senior Jiang: "You, you...you are the primordial spirit that disappeared from Senior Jiang's body?"
Boom!
Seeing the Buddha smile without speaking, a thunderous roar exploded in his ear, and he exclaimed incredulously, "You are also the reincarnation of the Heavenly Emperor!"
Xiang Yuan didn't know who Senior Jiang was in his previous life, only that he obtained the Yanfu Sect and was controlled by 'her,' namely the Queen Mother of the West.
This Queen Mother of the West is most likely Master Jingyun.
In the lower realm of martial arts, Senior Jiang mentioned in his last letter that he wanted to escape, but he was no match for the Queen Mother of the West and could not escape her control. By luck, he entered a mysterious place, where his primordial spirit reincarnated, and he gained freedom from then on.
After that, Xiang Yuan, due to his limited perspective and lack of imagination, didn't rack his brains to guess where Senior Jiang's spirit went. He thought he'd just move it aside and throw it into storage to gather dust. Either he'd forget about it someday and wouldn't have to think about it anymore, or the answer would just pop up on its own someday and he wouldn't have to think about it anymore.
Save trouble.
He was right, the answer really did come to mind!
Xiang Yuan stared in astonishment at the golden Buddha before him. If the other party was a reincarnation of the celestial beings, and had connections with Ji Wuzhou, calling him a disciple would be perfectly reasonable.
"But how could you be the reincarnation of the Heavenly Emperor?" Xiang Yuan still found it unbelievable.
"If this humble monk did not enjoy all the riches and honors, if he were not born into a high position, how could his enlightenment and renunciation into the monastic life be considered precious, and how could people know that the Buddha's teachings are better than wealth and royal power?" the Buddha explained with a smile.
"Who asked you that..."
Xiang Yuanren was completely numb. Luckily, Ji Wuzhou didn't come today. Otherwise, knowing that the throne was unstable and that there was another competitor in the Three Realms, and that the Buddha was both wise and brave, he probably wouldn't even be able to sit securely on the Jade Emperor's throne.
"This humble monk is dull-witted. What does Your Majesty wish to ask?"
"How did Buddha do it? How did he relinquish his own destiny, escape the Heavenly Emperor's control, and become Buddha?"
"This humble monk attained the gates of Jambudvipa and entered Mount Sumeru. Perhaps it was someone else's scheme, or perhaps it was truly just a coincidence..."
The Buddha slowly recounted his journey of relinquishing the Heavenly Emperor's Dao Seed, and then reincarnating again and again, returning to Mount Ling each time. Finally, he said to Xiang Yuan, "If the Great Emperor finds this unbelievable, look at the Jade Emperor in the Nine Heavens. He too has transcended himself and is no longer the Heavenly Emperor."
"Uh, so... is it possible that you feel you've moved on because of certain people?" Xiang Yuan blinked, her eyes clear and without any hint of aggression.
"..."
In short, they've managed to confuse even the Buddha.
The two stared at each other, one's eye twitching and the other's mouth twitching, and very tacitly ended the conversation.
If this topic makes you uncomfortable, switch to another one that makes you uncomfortable.
With a flick of his finger, Buddha sent the Heavenly Emperor's Dao Seed, which had been sealed for many years, into Xiang Yuan's body. He received a pair of disdainful eyes in return. He put his hands together and said, "This humble monk is a monk and has already attained enlightenment. The affairs of the mortal world have nothing to do with this humble monk. The master-disciple relationship between the Great Emperor and this humble monk is only in the mortal world. If you are unwilling to treat me with the respect due to a master, this humble monk cannot find fault with it."
"In that case, I will not treat you with the respect due to a teacher."
"good."
The Buddha nodded and continued, "This humble monk and Mount Ling entered the Qianyuan Realm together; one could say that Buddhism entered the Qianyuan Realm. This was inevitable, and the only inevitable..."
Those who know, know. Without a Heavenly Emperor in the Qianyuan Realm, the number of shareholders will only increase. This is an inevitable trend and the only result after careful planning.
The Buddha had a very high opinion of the Qianyuan Realm and was also very clear that all the Heavenly Emperors of the other heavens were powerful on the surface but empty inside and lacked a core. They would only be crushed one by one by the Qianyuan Realm.
The snowball keeps getting bigger and bigger, and the Qianyuan Realm will become the only reality.
After that, what does the real world represent?
The Buddha couldn't figure this out and wanted to consult the Three Pure Ones, but he was afraid of being fooled. So he asked Xiang Yuan, who was even more cunning than him, what his guesses were about the future.
Having endured so much scheming, even without becoming a skilled doctor through long illness, you can still deduce something from the various symptoms.
Faced with the Buddha's act of discussing his illness, Xiang Yuan immediately put on a serious face: "To be honest, Buddha, my consistent principle is not to think too much, just take the benefits first and then worry about the rest."
"Great Emperor, what a fine heart you have!" Buddha exclaimed.
"Even Buddha is quite sarcastic..."
Xiang Yuan curled his lip: "After all that Buddha has said, I only have one question: what exactly is the promise you're asking for?"
"Your Majesty should know that turning the illusory into the real is not something that can be done overnight, nor can it be achieved simply by strengthening the Qianyuan Realm. The journey to the West to obtain the scriptures involves the Three Realms. Your Majesty only knows the form, not the meaning. It is only right that this humble monk should undertake this task..."
To put it another way, you've only seen the cover of Journey to the West, so you don't understand it. But I'm different; I'm a second-time player, so it's more reliable for me to handle this matter.
"Uh……"
Actually, I've read Journey to the West before; there are various versions.
Xiang Yuan thought to himself that he was complaining, but he didn't object. The broken sampan was unreliable for important matters and useless for trivial ones. He was happy to see Buddha take over the burden of the oxen and horses.
Perform well, and after filming wraps up, I'll give you and the Bodhisattva an extra chicken leg!
Seeing Xiang Yuan nod so easily, Buddha was taken aback: "May I ask, Great Emperor, who is it that you are...?"
"I said it!"
"..."
The Buddha remained silent for a long while before finally saying, "Qianyuan Realm is indeed a blessed land, just as the Bodhisattva said. This humble monk, considering all the consequences, could have easily obtained it, but I insisted on forcing it, which was somewhat out of line."
"I understand. The Heavenly Emperor is ruthless; it's always good to be on guard."
Xiang Yuan shrugged, looking at the miserable state of the human and demon races being tricked, it was no wonder that Buddha suffered from the Heavenly Emperor's PTSD.
Even the kindest person should be wary of the Heavenly Emperor.
"Since Your Majesty understands my predicament, then I will speak frankly: on my journey to the West, I pray that Heaven and Earth will respond to my every call!" The Buddha looked intently at Xiang Yuan.
"Ah."
"..."
So simple?
Otherwise, that's how it was filmed!
Seeing the Buddha's astonished and incredulous expression, Xiang Yuan felt a surge of secret pleasure, while simultaneously being extremely curious about how the Journey to the West in the Heavenly Realm was filmed. Was the route fixed, but the Heavenly Emperor acted arbitrarily, rewriting the script entirely according to his own preferences?
Seriously? You wouldn't even dare crawl under a table, and you still want to film Journey to the West?
Our Jade Emperor dares to crawl under the table!
Xiang Yuan dared to pat his chest and guarantee that as long as Ji Wuzhou got his hands on the script, he would crawl under the table without hesitation... He should.
Although the Jade Emperor doesn't need to crawl under the table, it's interesting to perform it this way. Anyway, it's not like the Jade Emperor of Gouchen Palace, the Emperor of Dongji Qinghua, or the Emperor of Zhenwu crawling under the table. What's wrong with sharing the joy with the people?
Drilling into the hole makes the Jade Emperor seem more down-to-earth, and shareholders will be more supportive of him!
This isn't just crawling under the table; it's clearly consolidating his imperial throne!
Thinking of this, Xiang Yuan blurted out, asking Buddha if he should arrange for the Jade Emperor to crawl under the table and then shout, "Quickly go and invite the Tathagata Buddha!"
The Buddha's forehead was practically glowing with astonishment. He knew the Qianyuan Realm was a blessed land, but this was far too blessed.
Buddha was very tempted, but after weighing the pros and cons, he decided against it. While this move would certainly make Buddhism seem more prestigious and in line with the low-key style of Buddhism in grand occasions, it would also cause too much animosity among the other shareholders, making it difficult to get help from others in the future.
They're demanding extra money at every single place!
Under Xiang Yuan's regretful gaze, Buddha resolutely rejected the proposal. The topic of Journey to the West had reached this point, and Buddha stopped acting. He waved his sleeve and sent out a beam of light that went only to Flower Fruit Mountain in the direction of the East Sea, transforming into a celestial stone that was 36 feet and 5 inches tall.
The stone has nine apertures; one can become an immortal!
"The Victorious Fighting Buddha has achieved perfect merit and should not be troubled any further. However, with the new Qianyuan Realm being built, only he can shoulder this heavy responsibility." The Buddha looked at the Immortal Stone with satisfaction, who was not afraid of hardship or fatigue and had a great spirit of self-sacrifice.
Buddha: It has been decided that you will be sent to retrieve the scriptures.
Monkey: Ah, I already took it!
Buddha: It has been decided that you will be sent to retrieve the scriptures again.
"..."
Xiang Yuan looked at the shameless Buddha with embarrassment, thinking that as expected of the reincarnation of the Heavenly Emperor, even after entering the Buddhist order, this shamelessness was still retained.
It's a pity for the Great Sage; he'll have to live in that small single room for another five hundred years.
"Not necessarily. It's like having 5,000 troops but claiming to have 500,000. If you're in a hurry, there's no need to actually hold them for 500 years. Holding them for 5 days is enough."
Since it wasn't Xiang Yuan who was being suppressed, the passerby was quite excited: "Buddha, we have the pilgrim monkey. How should we arrange the pilgrim? Are you really not going to consider Master Lingxiu?"
"Your Majesty, this humble monk has already come up with an idea."
The Buddha looked at Xiang Yuan and said, "This person is incredibly powerful and of noble status. Even if I were to personally intervene, I could not persuade him. After much thought, I believe that only by asking Guanyin Bodhisattva can this matter be accomplished."
"So powerful! The Bodhisattva speaks very nicely, but who in the Three Realms would dare to disrespect the Buddha?" Xiang Yuanqi exclaimed.
The Buddha smiled faintly and pointed to his own eyes.
Xiang Yuan was puzzled. He looked closely and saw a pretty boy in the Buddha's eyes.
"..."
What do you mean? I'm playing Tang Sanzang?
(_))
Farewell!
Without saying a word, Xiang Yuan turned and left. That shameless bastard, he really is a reincarnation of the Heavenly Emperor, so arrogant that he had to be cast as Tang Sanzang.
Do you really think that you can get whatever you want just because you're a bald monk who uses his bald head as a hairstyle?
They even wanted Guanyin Bodhisattva to persuade them face-to-face? That's hilarious! Try it if you don't believe me. Tomorrow is the day Guanyin, the goddess of children, will come. There's no room for negotiation on this matter.
Even if we take a step back and assume he's handsome, how does he resemble Tang Sanzang at all? Tang Sanzang could gain immortality just by eating a piece of his flesh...
This list is inappropriate!
Xiang Yuan took it back and replaced him with someone else. How could he resemble Tang Sanzang at all? What martial arts skills did Tang Sanzang have? What combat power did he have? If he played Tang Sanzang, could the monsters on the journey to the West stand it?
Take the Bull Demon King for example. With a single thud, his entire family of three knelt down. How could the story continue?
Leaving aside the monsters, just talking about the monkey, if he were to play Tang Sanzang, the monkey would be the first to not be able to stand it!
"You three, search carefully for me along the way."
[You idiot, take good care of the horse, or I'll break its legs!]
Pick up the scriptures, pick up the scriptures!
[MVP results screen for speedrunning 81 challenges]
Even if the monkeys could stand it, all the gods and Buddhas in the sky couldn't!
"Hmm, this suddenly seems quite interesting..."
"He~~tui!"
"What's so interesting about this? We can't take this script; it's bound to flop."
Xiang Yuan shook his head repeatedly. Buddha was having some wild ideas. What kind of person was he to play Buddha's disciple...?
Although there is indeed some kinship, it's not a matter of inappropriateness. His mind is made up, and no one can change it!
