Chapter 865, Section 75: Marked
After being attacked by the scavengers, the convoy changed its route and set off again. This time, no other group of fools came to block the road.
Perhaps because of the howling of the nearby hounds and the sounds of gunfire, the journey through this rather chaotic neighborhood was relatively quiet, except for the occasional sighting of a few drug addicts wandering around.
After turning left and right along the new route, at the end of the journey, a place that previously looked like a small shopping mall appeared.
The route guidance ends as the vehicle stops.
Then, silence fell.
The truck was parked in the abandoned shopping mall, and there was no sound around. Even if you listened carefully, you could only hear the faint breathing of the people in the vehicle.
Where is the person who received the goods?
If it were an ordinary hound, it would definitely be thinking about this at this moment, but in Oliver's mind...
'These people's disguises...don't they remind you of the familiar ninja hundred-man group?'
Sitting in the driver's seat, he appeared to be sitting upright out of nervousness, but he had actually already used his peripheral vision to survey his surroundings, and even spotted the familiar disguised Oliver in several shadows, speaking into the channel:
"It seems we were right. Hansen really is colluding with the remnants of the 100-ninja group. He really did take in these ninjas who lost their master. So, it seems this batch of weapons is for them?"
“Part of it should be,” Carl said in the channel. “While the ‘Ninja Hundred’ group admires traditional ninja weapons, they never forget to keep up with the times. There are quite a few people in the group who are proficient in firearms—after all, in order to protect Saburo Arasaka, they must be skilled in using all kinds of weapons, and everyone must have expertise in dealing with various situations.”
"They sound pretty formidable, but it's a pity we've never actually fought them. We had a chance last time, but we sided with them. Speaking of which, what do you think they're doing now?"
"Observe."
Jack said, "Maybe they're confirming our threat level."
"They are really vigilant. No wonder Saburo Arasaka keeps such a pack of dogs. It's a pity that the dogs' vigilance and keen sense of smell couldn't save Saburo Arasaka."
Oliver's channel was filled with sarcastic remarks, and then he received a new communication.
"verify."
The message in the communication was very simple, just one word.
But Oliver understood.
He immediately replied with 'Scatter water chestnuts'.
This is the verification password, which was supposed to be entered before the vehicle arrived at the final checkpoint. However, due to the attack, many of the devices inside this armored truck were malfunctioning, and most of them were barely functional. Under these circumstances, it's no wonder that the group of 100 ninjas had to observe the vehicle and manually verify the password.
“Scattering. So that’s what it means. I should have thought of it sooner. Their slogan has that ninja vibe—'Ninja Scattering.' I remember watching Mewtwo with that technique.”
"Oliver, are you talking about Mewtwo from 'Fatal Escape'? I've seen it too. It has a sensory needle-like horn that triggers immediately when someone steps on it, and the explosive power is enough to blow off an entire leg, but it looks like just an inconspicuous little piece of metal—is that the one?"
"If we're talking about Mewtwo, you're the one who knows, Carl. I can't even remember its name."
After two days of casual chatting on the channel, beneath their outwardly tense demeanor, the ninjas who had received the verification code had clearly developed a certain level of trust in them. Not long after, a person dressed in a white suit, with a mask covering his face so that his appearance was obscured, emerged from the shadows.
Judging from their appearance, this member of the 100-person ninja group doesn't look like a ninja at all. Instead, he looks like a member of the Tiger Claw Gang from the streets of Japan. However, considering the current situation of the 100-person ninja group, perhaps this misunderstanding of appearance is intentional on their part.
"Have all the goods arrived?"
He walked up to the armored truck and said in a calm tone, "I expect you to perform your duties perfectly."
Hearing that tone and those inexplicably condescending words, Oliver almost couldn't resist slamming on the gas and letting this jerk have a stroke of luck.
But he managed to hold back; after all, he's a professional now, and he's learned to hide the youthful rage he had when he first started out. Before, Oliver, who used to unleash classic Santo Domingo road rage the moment he touched the steering wheel, would have given him a piece of his mind.
"Please verify."
Oliver spoke respectfully, opened the car door and got out, handing over the paper invoice that had been placed on the passenger seat and had luckily survived: "Please take a look."
The man in the suit and mask glanced at what Oliver offered, but made no attempt to take it.
During ninja training, casually accepting something from someone else could lead to contamination with toxins or germs, which could potentially harm the person while protecting them. So he only glanced at it before walking past Oliver.
"I have remembered everything."
He walked to the back of the carriage, but then stopped. His eyes gestured for Karl and Oliver, who had also gotten out of the passenger seat, to open the carriage door for him.
But before he could give any further indication, the carriage door opened from the inside, and Jack and the only member of the Ghosthounds who was less seriously injured got out of the vehicle.
The man in the suit and mask glanced at them, and when he noticed that none of them were carrying anything, the look in his prosthetic eye under the mask turned cold.
"move."
He only said such a brief sentence, and then offered no further explanation or instructions, simply looking at Karl and the others, his meaning already quite clear.
"This little bastard is unusually wary."
As Jack spoke, he still obediently did as he was told for the time being, and together with Oliver and Carl who were in the carriage, each carried a box of goods.
However, the man in the suit and mask was clearly not satisfied with the remaining two boxes of goods. His gaze turned to the ghostly dog with the injured hand.
"move."
He only said this one sentence.
Too lazy to argue with him, Jack didn't intend to let the wounded man do anything. He took the initiative to stack the remaining two boxes and carried three boxes by himself.
Watching Jack lift the box with a powerful effort, the man in the suit and mask scrutinized his arm, noticing subtle modifications before nodding slightly.
"Follow."
He walked ahead without touching anything.
The remaining few exchanged glances, then followed, carrying their belongings.
As they went deeper into the abandoned shopping mall, they eventually left and wandered through the ruins.
Clearly, none of these are the final destinations.
While performing, Carl glanced briefly around.
Eight people.
well.
The people here have already been marked.
