Chapter 861, Chapter 71: Truly nostalgic!
Chapter 861, Section 71: How nostalgic!
Among the hounds of the underworld, "colonel" refers to only one person.
Kurt Hansen.
While Carl Taylor received the call from Kurt Hansen, Carl left the registration desk. Almost at the same time, Oliver removed the distraction, and Jack and the others "finally" managed to move the boxes.
"Found it?" Oliver's voice came through the channel.
"Sort of. A week ago, Chester Bennett received instructions from Hansen to transfer a modified Ajax from this vault to the fourth vault."
"Secret Vault Number Four, what kind of place is that?"
Amid Jack's puzzled voice, Carl Taylor, who received Kurt Hansen's call, grew increasingly serious, even showing signs of nervousness.
A few seconds later, he hung up the communication, took a deep breath, and turned to the group, especially the four "veteran team members": "Listen, I just received a direct order from the colonel that there is an urgent need for supplies. We need to immediately dispatch a batch of weapons, the highest grade."
"You four, go to the quarantine area immediately to pick up the goods using armored personnel carriers. I'll grant you access; the route will be transmitted to the vehicle's navigation system when you board. Deliver it there as quickly as possible. The command recognition code is 'Sprinkle Water'—act fast!"
The three of Hanz's accomplices and the unsuspecting team member immediately obeyed: "Yes, Captain!"
Was it an urgent supply request, or an order directly issued by Hansen?
Karl's mind raced. In this sub-armory, there were items that required Hansent's orders, which were probably the weapons he was currently tracking down.
Wouldn't you say that we just found a clue, and someone immediately handed the target to us?
With this in mind, Karl immediately stepped forward.
“Captain!” he said to Carl Taylor, “We didn’t perform well before and disappointed you. After listening to what you said at noon, I realized that I had indeed been slacking off and must work harder. Could I come along this time to learn about the emergency supplies allocation process? With more people, the unloading can be completed faster.”
Captain Carl Taylor was taken aback, clearly not expecting Carl to be so enthusiastic all of a sudden. But the mission was urgent, and having a few more men was never a bad thing, especially since the other man was sincere and seemed genuinely motivated by his words—although he vaguely felt that this recruit had ulterior motives.
"I think you're just using helping out as an excuse to dawdle and rest on the way back, and then come back just before your shift ends. Don't think I don't know what you're thinking."
The captain felt he had somewhat seen through the recruit's thoughts, but then he thought, what if he had actually persuaded him? If he disagreed, would it dampen his enthusiasm? Besides, even if they wanted to slack off, the work here was almost done, and he had originally planned to have the mechanical guards take over anyway. So, after a moment's hesitation, he finally relented:
"Alright then, you can come along too. Since you're coming, the other two newcomers can come along as well. Leave the rest to me. Remember, you must follow their orders in all actions—" He pointed to the four veteran team members, "Observe and learn more, and don't ask questions you shouldn't ask. Especially when you get there, keep your eyes and hands to yourself, and absolutely do not touch or move anything without permission, understand?"
"Understood! Thank you, Captain!"
The three quickly caught up with the four veteran team members who were preparing to depart and re-entered the isolation layer opened by Captain Carl Taylor.
Amidst the hustle and bustle, they began to compile a list of supplies to be allocated, as instructed. Just then, Karl clearly saw on the paper list that the box containing the specially modified weapon that had previously caught their attention was indeed among the emergency supplies.
The three Hanz inside agents were clearly more familiar with the place. They directed Carl, Oliver, and Jack to quickly move batches of tightly sealed weapon cases onto the transport elevator. After confirming that everything was in order, they all left the weapons department and went down to the Ghost Hound's parking lot.
What appeared before Carl wasn't the Colby Ghost Hound armored vehicle commonly used by the Ghost Hounds, but a vehicle whose original form Carl couldn't discern, likely a modified truck. Jack and Oliver, however, immediately recognized the original vehicle and explained it to Carl, letting him know that it was originally a rather sturdy vehicle with bulletproof capabilities. Judging from the bulletproof shell added by the Ghost Hounds, it could probably withstand the bombardment of small artillery shells now.
Carl carefully examined the heavy outer shell and the rough welding marks.
In his opinion, if it were a standard prosthetic 'projectile launching system,' especially one equipped with a smaller-yield ammunition, it probably wouldn't even be able to penetrate the thickened bulletproof shell if it were fired at this vehicle.
The vehicle's interior has been specially modified, with complete mounting brackets and cushioning pads to ensure the safe transport of these valuable and dangerous goods.
Karl's gaze never left that special box for more than a second, watching it being carefully lifted onto the vehicle by two team members, mixed in with several other boxes that looked similar but were marked with high-energy weapons or precision instruments, and then firmly secured to the support frame at the innermost part of the vehicle.
"Alright, that's it, the count is correct!" An inside agent checked the list and nodded to Captain Carl Taylor, who had temporarily followed along because of the importance of the goods.
The captain glanced at the time, his expression still serious: "The navigation route and passage instructions have been sent to the vehicle system. Remember, the password 'Sa Ling' is only valid once and must be entered before reaching the final checkpoint. Maintain communication silence on the road and do not contact us unless absolutely necessary. Depart!"
"Yes, Captain."
The heavy carriage doors slammed shut and locked, isolating the entire batch of weapons and the five team members inside.
Inside this reinforced armored truck, a five-man team was responsible for escort and emergency operations, while the other two sat in the driver's and co-driver's seats, focusing on the driving mission. The driver was the only member of the team who was completely unaware of the mission details, while the co-driver's seat was occupied by Karl, who had voluntarily given up his place by the other five.
Carl watched as his teammate skillfully started the engine, the vehicle emitting a deep, powerful roar as it slowly drove out of the dark basement and began to move along the predetermined road.
On the navigation screen, a pre-defined route clearly extends, pointing to a coordinate on the edge of Dogtown, a place marked as an abandoned underground parking garage on the official map.
The vehicle drove in silence for a while, with only the dull sound of tires rolling over the road and the hum of the engine. The unsuspecting team member was focused on driving and clearly had no intention of talking to the newcomer sitting in the passenger seat. In this somewhat quiet atmosphere, Karl suddenly recalled his first delivery.
Although it might not have been considered delivery, considering the weapons and personnel, it didn't seem that different. He remembered feeling quite relaxed sitting in the car back then, until...
"RPG!"
A sudden, piercing scream rang out beside Karl, and when he looked up, the flames were already right in front of him.
When the RPG leaves the launch tube, its speed is 150 meters per second. After the booster starts accelerating, it can reach a speed of 300 meters per second. This speed is not a reaction time for an experienced Ghost Hound, and even for an ordinary person, it is a speed that can be seen. But for Karl...
He had sensed it the moment someone lifted the RPG.
only.
'How I miss those days.'
Karl remained motionless as the RPG arrived.
