Chapter 847, Section 57: I'll take this job.

"I think, Mr. Carl, you may have already seen the relevant news."

As soon as the call connected, Mr. Blue Eyes got straight to the point. Although he didn’t specify which news it was, to Carl, his words were a clear hint.

"I did see it, but I think you should have known about it earlier than I did. Did you make this call after the news aired, assuming I had already received the news?"

Karl's tone was calm, revealing little emotion, yet subtly probing. He paused briefly before continuing:
"It seems you are more concerned about this matter than I thought."

“I’m just certain that, with the capabilities of your team, Mr. Carl, once the news has spread, it’s impossible for it to have escaped your notice.” The blue-eyed man replied with a smile, his tone calm and composed. “It is precisely because I am so confident that I made this call.”

"I think this attack was an accident, isn't it?"

Carl's words received an affirmative response from Mr. Blue Eyes.

"This is something none of us want to see."

In other words, the attack was not planned by the people behind Mr. Blue Eyes.

Carl's implication was quite clear—he was asking whether the attack was expected, or more directly, whether it was carried out by the forces to which Mr. Blue Eyes belonged.

The other party responded with "accident" and emphasized that they "didn't want to see it." Regardless of whether it was true or not, it at least superficially distanced themselves from the incident, indicating that it was neither what they wanted nor what they expected.

Whether Mr. Blue Eyes' words were true or false, the fact that he called at this time and expressed his "unwillingness to see this happen" was enough for Carl to roughly understand what he wanted to entrust with the next task.

The fact that Mr. Blue Eyes called at this time and immediately brought up this matter means he definitely has a request for KK Team. Their relationship isn't close enough for them to chat about the news, but since there's a job, their stance is crucial.

Mercenaries may rely solely on brute force and disregard intellect, but a team must always have someone who can decipher the unspoken meaning of the employer—even if it's just the employer's apparent stance, at least someone must be able to deduce their general intentions and next move.

"Let's get down to business. I think we can stop testing each other here—I understand your general intentions, and I don't mind taking on a job at this time."

As Carl spoke, his gaze swept across his phone screen. Having already accepted a commission from the NCPD, he had set the order status to "not accepting orders for the time being."

Apart from a few strange people who somehow got his number and a few newcomers who didn't know the rules, who would inconsiderately message him asking if he would take on jobs, his familiar old channels wisely refrained from bothering him.

And right at the moment when the NCPD mission had just ended, Mr. Blue Eyes happened to be the first person to come knocking on their door.

As it happened, Carl was quite concerned about the aftermath of that incident and didn't mind investigating it further.

Carl still remembers Semill, the researcher who was determined to resurrect ancient creatures, and his friend Doss. He plans to go and see how Semill will react when he learns that his painstakingly developed project has been destroyed.

If Semill's conviction had remained unwavering, Karl would have been quite willing to fund his continued research, which had already been abandoned.

Ultimately, Carl always maintained a strong interest in that project.

To put it more bluntly—the scene of witnessing the fierce battle between the Triceratops and the gorilla was so shocking that he really wanted to raise a similar ancient creature himself. Now that the experimental facility has been destroyed, he feels quite sorry for it.

“I would like to request that your team investigate this attack squad.” The blue-eyed man’s voice came through the receiver, calm yet carrying an undeniable weight. “Their methods are disturbing.”

Karl walked to the window, gazing at the perpetually brightly lit Night City. "Military-grade equipment, professional-level tactical execution—this isn't something ordinary mercenaries can do." "Exactly," the blue-eyed man's voice held a rare touch of seriousness, as if imbued with emotion. "What's even more worrying is their chosen target—that biotechnology gene research lab. According to my intelligence, they've just completed their first perfect resurrection experiment."

"It's already finished?" Karl was a little surprised and asked, "What did the resurrection accomplish?"

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, as if they were weighing how much to reveal.

"The dodo," Mr. Blue Eyes finally said, "a creature that was resurrected because its genetic sample was still intact and it hadn't been extinct for long. It was the only successful experiment."

This involves the fundamental framework of certain gene recombination technologies. Theoretically, if an experiment is deleted, replicating the same samples and data might take as long as starting the experiment entirely again. During this period, it will be unique.

"Although I don't want to say it, I still feel a bit emotional after discovering that it was a dodo. It's quite ironic that a creature that went extinct because of human activities is brought back to life by humans and then gets caught up in human schemes."

"Whether it's ironic or not, it's something that has already happened, Mr. Carl."

That is indeed true.

Carl admitted this, because now even he had designs on the dodo.

The resurrection experiment involves Johnny. If it succeeds, there will be hope for Johnny's true resurrection. If the only successful sample is lost and the technological framework is gone, it is unknown how long Johnny's matter will be delayed.

"so."

Carl asked, "If it involves large companies, how much leeway should we go?"

“If it were them, there would be no need for such a fuss,” the blue-eyed man said slowly. “That’s precisely why I need you to investigate. This team doesn’t belong to any known faction—at least not the ones that are publicly known.”

"In other words, even if it's resolved, it doesn't really matter, and the information obtained from the investigation can't be made public. You can just tell me, right?"

"Just as you said, Mr. Carl, you are indeed excellent."

While Carl and Mr. Blue Eyes were talking, Jack had already come over, and Oliver put down his drink. The two of them listened to the conversation coming from the speakerphone.

"And what about the compensation?" Carl asked bluntly.

"Five times the amount of your last mission, half in advance, and your team must consist of two or more people."

"This is a reasonable price, so the final question..."

Karl spoke up: "What should we do with the organisms that were successfully tested?"

The blue-eyed middle-aged man was silent for a while, as if weighing something, before finally speaking: "I leave everything to you, Mr. Karl."

"I'll take this job."
