Chapter 764 178 Roulette
Chapter 764, Chapter 178: Roulette
Roulette is one of the simplest games in a casino.
Taking American roulette as an example, the roulette wheel is divided into 38 squares, including 36 red and black number squares, one green 0 square, and one green 00 square. Players most commonly place bets in two ways:
One option is to bet on the color. Place your chips in the areas marked 'red' or 'black'. If the ball eventually lands on the corresponding colored square, you win the same amount of chips as your bet.
For example, betting 1 chip will win you 1 chip, betting 2 chips will win you 2 chips.
The second option is to bet directly on a number, choosing any number from 1 to 36. If the ball lands on that number, you get a 35x return. This method is riskier, but the potential reward is also higher.
As for more detailed betting options like range betting, those are not commonly seen at the Gemstone Banquet gambling tables.
The guests here still prefer betting on colors and numbers; the former is for fun, while the latter is for complete enjoyment of the madness and the thrill of victory.
There were two dealers at each gambling table at the banquet: one was a machine dealer in charge of allowing gambling at the table, and the other was a human dealer belonging to the Netherhound. The reason for having two dealers was to prevent any unforeseen circumstances.
Previously, some self-proclaimed clever hackers attempted to hack into the mechanical dealers to manipulate the results. After winning a sum of money they shouldn't have won, they were discovered to have been shot more than forty times in the back and committed suicide in an alleyway next to the street. Since then, almost every casino has prepared two dealers, one mechanical and one human, to assist and supervise each other.
After all, humans can be bribed and bought off, while machines can be hacked but not bought off. With these two safeguards in place, if the game can still be manipulated, then we should first consider whether it's a problem with the casino's competence.
When V walked up to his targets, Emerick Cassell and Aurol Cassell, there were exactly two empty seats left out of the six seats available for guests at the table, just enough for him and Carl to each have a seat.
V had actually wanted to ask Karl about something on the way, but considering that Li De was still watching him, he didn't say anything and just walked to the gambling table with Karl, who seemed to have 'coincidentally' come to sit down as well.
Emeric and Aurora were on the left side of the gambling table, while there were seats directly opposite and to the right of the gambling table. V moved to the seat directly opposite the twin hackers, which caught their attention.
Although the person V impersonated had an ordinary appearance, his aura was hard to change. The twin hackers understood each other's thoughts with just a glance.
This person who just arrived is definitely not a simple character.
As for the young guest who went to the other side
Aurora glanced at the black-haired youth staring at the gambling table, seemingly contemplating how to place his bets, and a slight smile curved her lips.
She could tell this guy apart at a glance. He was just a novice who hadn't participated in many gambling games. With that curious and thoughtful look in his eyes, she knew he was probably going to lose everything today. There was nothing to care about him.
'This unassuming fellow, however, seems quite experienced.'
Aurora Cassell's gaze swept across the casino's hazy lights, finally settling on V.
She leaned lazily against the roulette table, her fingertips lightly tapping the device that stored the chips, producing a series of crisp sounds.
“Hey, new face,” she suddenly spoke, her voice like honeyed whiskey, with a touch of deliberate sweetness, “It’s no fun just standing there watching. Want to play a couple of rounds?”
That's exactly what I meant.
V stood in his seat without a care, placed the device storing his chips on the reader next to the gambling table, and looked up at the dealer: "Can I still place bets?"
"Please step down."
The mechanical dealer spoke in a gentle female voice, indicating that the game had only just begun and was currently in the betting phase.
Upon hearing the dealer's voice, V's lips curled into a slight smile. He looked at Aurora: "It's rare to come across such an interesting game. May I ask what you've placed your bet, ma'am?" "I haven't placed it yet, but it seems this gentleman enjoys prying into other people's affairs."
Aurora chuckled softly, her fingers fiddling with the virtual chips. The holographic projection reflected on her rosy face, while Emeric beside her subtly glanced at V's hands, seemingly assessing whether he was carrying weapons or hacking equipment.
"I wouldn't call it scouting, it's just that my luck has always been strange—either I win big or I lose everything, so I've gotten into the habit of betting like others in the first round."
"Luck, here, luck is just another way of saying probability."
Aurora smiled broadly, her gaze sweeping over V's collar: "I prefer the look in those eyes that dare to bet everything—either they'll win big or they'll go broke."
"Sounds like you're planning to try a mutual pressure game with me?"
V pretended not to notice the other person's scrutiny, and instead looked at the roulette wheel with interest. "Then I'll bet on red." V casually pressed the betting button on the table, his movements as casual as if he were just passing the time.
Aurora raised an eyebrow, her fingertip gliding lightly across the table, sending the virtual chips towards the black area as she pressed: "Then I'll do the opposite of you and see if your 'luck' really holds up."
"Ten seconds left to place your bet."
Just then, the human dealer of the hound spoke up. She stood to the side, her hands clasped together, her sharp eyes scanning the table as if she were looking at anyone who might be secretly cheating.
As she prompted him, V noticed out of the corner of her eye that Carl was awkwardly studying the betting rules on the other side, looking like a novice entering a casino for the first time—his acting was quite convincing, though.
Wait, acting?
V suddenly realized.
Has Carl ever played roulette before?
Maybe not.
In past gatherings, he would at most play a card game called Dou Dizhu.
That is
Karl took 400,000 euros and casually participated in a betting game where he didn't even understand the rules.
V felt a bit of toothache, but unfortunately, he had others watching him and couldn't say anything to remind Carl.
And it was at this moment that Karl made his decision.
"red."
Carl is gradually learning the rules of roulette, and in the first round, he plans to learn from V and place bets together.
As for the amount
Karl glanced at the amount V had bet—ten thousand euros. Since that was the case, he decided to trust V.
Two hundred thousand euros.
The clattering sound that appeared when Carl pressed the virtual chips attracted the attention of the other patrons at the table.
Two hundred thousand in one go?
That's pretty big stuff.
