Chapter 142 Leaving Home
Chapter 142 Leaving Home
"You mean, the person possessed by the devil is actually me."
Old Lecht was still sitting in front of the house, with an axe next to his chair. He looked up at Ethan who had returned, and his attitude was much more stable than Ethan had imagined.
Ethan said, "We investigated Blanche's body and found the wolves that attacked her, and found this in their bodies."
The red tapeworm in the glass jar was still wriggling tirelessly, and old Lecht stared at the glass bottle in a daze.
Parasites, viruses, infections, these unfamiliar words were difficult to understand for a farmer who had barely read a few books, so he filtered Ethan's words into a language he could understand and selected some news that made him happy.
His son was not possessed by the devil; he was able to see these visions because the devil had polluted his eyes.
And Blanche's bizarre death seemed to have a reasonable explanation for him.
Old Lecht felt relieved, and for the first time in five days he truly relaxed his body. He sat back, closed his tired eyes, and let out a long sigh of relief.
While Ethan was talking to old Lecht, Rowena endured the strange smell and went to the stable. With the help of young Lecht, she obtained some of the mane left by Blanche.
"Blanche ran away, and it made Dad very sad."
Little Lecht sat on a tall pile of straw. He did not resent his father's recent strange temper at all. Whenever hunters came to his house, he would cooperate with the hunters' investigation as much as possible. Those people cut his skin with silver knives, and there were scratches on his left arm.
He also swallowed a lot of pure salt, and his tongue couldn't taste it for a long time. "Blanche was just a foal when she first came to the farm. Dad raised her. To us, she is like a family member."
Speaking of Blanche, a smile appeared on Little Lecht's face. He looked at the empty stable, as if Blanche had never left. "There must be a reason why it suddenly ran out of the stable. Miss Fortune Teller, you are a good person. Thank you for telling us this."
Rowena asked in confusion, "Aren't you curious about why it ran away?"
She couldn't understand why someone would treat a horse as a family member. This farm always felt weird to her. After learning about the red tapeworm, the Lecht family never asked any more questions, as if they already knew the answer.
But she didn't understand it at all, and felt like she was surrounded by a riddler.
So Rowena placed the brown mane on the crystal ball, which allowed her to see clearly what was happening on the farm.
Her sight was brought back to the night five days ago. It seemed to be just an ordinary night. Little Lecht was sitting on a tall pile of straw like he was now, telling Blanche about the recent events in the town. He mentioned the knights from the imperial capital, who were wearing majestic armor, and the tragedy that occurred in the riverside town, mourning for the lost souls.
Blanche lay quietly on the ground with her head tilted, as if she could really understand what little Lecht said. Every time he finished a story, Blanche would make a soft sound like the audience.
Little Lecht kept talking until he felt a little sleepy, so he jumped down from the haystack, touched Blanche's head, and told it enthusiastically that winter was coming soon, and he and his father planned to renovate the stable in a few days.
After little Lecht left, Blanche stood up from the ground. He looked a little painful, and his breathing became more and more rapid. After a while, he lowered his head and coughed up blood.
It stumbled out of the stable, which was not difficult for it because the Lechts had not tied it up with a rope or locked the stable, and they did not seem to worry at all that Blanche would escape from the stable when they were not paying attention.
It was very late at night, and Blanche stood in the farm for a long time, turning her head to look at the house, until the last ray of light went out.
The image in the crystal ball stopped.
Rowena had an incredible idea.
The horse knew it was going to die, so it quietly left the farm.
However, this is just a horse, not transformed by Transfiguration, nor is it the product of a curse like Miss Chloe. When Rowena left the stable, Ethan's conversation with Old Lecht also came to an end.
"You are the most knowledgeable person in this town, I believe you."
Old Lecht picked up the axe and handed it to Ethan. He looked at him with cloudy eyes and relaxed. "Now it's my turn. I have only one request. You have to make sure these damn bugs in my body don't infect anyone else."
Ethan took the axe and put it aside. "Things are not that bad yet, but I'm afraid you won't be able to live on the farm for the next few days. Please ask your wife and little Leicht to stay in the guild temporarily. We need to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the farm."
"Then you better hurry up."
Rowena pointed to the corner of old Lechter's mouth, where blood had already begun to seep out. She walked closer and said, "Mr. Lechter, open your mouth."
Old Lecht did so.
Blood was oozing from its gums, and on the last night before Blanche left the farm, it coughed up blood. Rowena guessed that was a sign of terminal illness. Judging from the time, old Lecht had been parasitized for five days.
"Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere else?"
Old Leicht was still sitting in the chair. After hesitating for a moment, he pointed from his chest to his lower abdomen and said, "It's a mess. Maybe I'm going to be defeated by the devil."
Fortunately, before he was defeated, he heard some good news, which made him feel relieved.
"I can start researching right away. This might be some kind of witch's spell."
Rowena said, "If you need it."
"Then I'll leave this place to you. I'll be back as soon as possible."
Ethan first returned to the apartment and told Ivy the information he and Rowena had found out. Ivy immediately put on her coat and went straight to Lecht's farm.
He changed into his new clothes, avoided everyone's sight, and came to the mailbox in Ximu Town.
"The Lamb Has Been Slaughtered" was still lively, and when Ethan walked in, the guests were in high spirits.
A lot of big things have happened in the empire recently.
The riot in the Highwood Mine, the assassination attempt on the Chief Priest and Earl Garland in Darkfurnace City, and the Red Death spreading in Gear City, all these signs pointed to one thing - their good days were coming.
Just like last time, Ethan's arrival made the tavern silent for a moment, and he did not stay in the tavern for long.
As he walked into the door of the "God is with you" store, the meatball rolled out excitedly again.
"Lord Chosen One, we have all heard of your great deeds in the Highwood Mine and Gear City."
Meatball crawled on the ground, "Let the scarlet plague come to the world again!"
