Chapter 137 Clues
Chapter 137 Clues
Laura and the kids are waiting for me, they are waiting for me!
Hawkeye was running frantically on the cliff. He couldn't believe what he had just seen.
He ran to the edge of a cliff, where the wind was howling, as if it was going to sweep away all the pain and despair in his heart.
Hawkeye stopped and held onto the rocks at the edge of the cliff, breathing heavily, his vision blurred by sweat.
"No, I can't just give up like this!"
He wiped the sweat from his face vigorously, and a determined light rekindled in his eyes.
"Laura and the children are still waiting for me. I can't be fooled by these illusions. What I just saw were all illusions. Yes, they must be illusions. Damn monsters, they are already dead, and they still have to disgust me!"
He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, not wanting to think about his previous experience.
Hawkeye now only wants to find the mastermind behind the scenes as soon as possible, kill him, and then rescue his wife and children!
He turned around and walked back the way he came, determinedly.
Along the way, he no longer wanted to be disturbed by the corpses of the monsters, but instead focused on finding possible clues.
He carefully observed his surroundings, trying to find any signs that could guide him forward.
Finally, in the ruins, he found a burnt wooden board with some unclear words engraved on it. Hawkeye took a closer look and was shocked. That was the mark left by Laura!
"They're still alive! They must be alive!"
Hawkeye shouted excitedly, as if he saw the dawn of hope.
He continued to move forward in the direction indicated by the mark.
In the ruins destroyed by war, he saw two familiar figures - Laura and the children! They were hiding in a dilapidated house, shivering.
"Laura! The kids!"
Hawkeye shouted excitedly, he rushed forward and hugged them tightly.
After a long time, he came to his senses and suddenly found that there was nothing in his arms, and in front of him was the town that Laura had mentioned before.
The streets of the small town were dead silent, with only the occasional sound of the wind, as if telling the story of its former prosperity and current desolation.
Hawkeye stood there in a daze. The scene before him was in stark contrast to the warm embrace he had just felt in his heart, and an ominous premonition surged in his heart again.
He looked around and noticed that although some of the buildings in the town were dilapidated, they still seemed to hide some kind of order, as if someone was secretly controlling everything.
He walked along the narrow alley, his ears perked up, catching any sound that might give away clues. Suddenly, a low conversation came from an abandoned house not far away. Hawkeye immediately hid himself, pressed against a crumbling wall, and peered inside through the cracks in the broken window.
The interior of the house was dim, with a few weak rays of light shining through the broken stained glass windows, barely illuminating the figures of a few people sitting around the fire.
Their faces looked distorted and gloomy in the firelight. They were discussing something in a low voice, their tone full of vigilance and hostility. "Have you heard? Recently, strangers have entered our territory again." A rough voice said, with an unquestionable threat in the voice.
"Yes, we must be careful and not let those outsiders discover our secrets." Another low voice responded, revealing an inexplicable fear in the voice.
"It should be the male owner of the farm. He is looking for his lost lamb, but he doesn't know that his wife and children have already been controlled by us." A third voice interrupted, his tone full of vigilance.
Hawkeye's heart tightened as he realized that these townspeople not only knew of his existence, but also seemed to be hostile to him.
More importantly, they seemed to hold the key information about his search for his wife and children. In other words, was what he just saw an illusion? Was what he killed a monster? Was his wife not dead?
He suppressed the ecstasy in his heart and held his breath, fearing that any slight movement would expose himself.
He continued to eavesdrop on the conversation in the house. Every word was like a heavy hammer hitting his heart, making him nervous and full of anticipation.
"We must speed up our plan and not let him find any clues." The rough voice sounded again, with unquestionable determination, "His identity is not simple. Once he finds our secret base, the consequences will be disastrous."
"But he doesn't look easy to deal with." The deep voice seemed a little hesitant. "That guy is agile, and it is said that he has extraordinary intuition."
"No matter how strong your intuition is, it can't defeat a carefully laid trap." The third voice sneered, "Don't forget, we still have 'it'. As long as 'it' takes action, nothing is impossible."
"'It'? You mean..." The rough voice seemed to hesitate, but then it was replaced by a resoluteness, "Okay, then let 'it' solve this problem. His child is fine with the adults, but his wife is on the rock. Does she need to be moved?"
Hearing this, Hawkeye's heart almost jumped out of his chest. His wife was over there on the rock. Was it that rock?
But I just came from there and killed a nest of monsters.
Could it be that he really killed the wrong person and killed his own wife with his own hands?
Hawkeye really couldn't tell the difference now, and he didn't have the courage to go to the rock to confirm. What if? There's no such thing as a single thing!
Since they mentioned that "adult", it must be in his hands!
Hawkeye suppressed his panic and fear. He knew that any emotional fluctuations at this moment might put him in an irretrievable situation. He had to stay calm and find a way to rescue Laura and the children.
He continued to monitor the conversations in the house, hoping to obtain more useful information.
"Transfer is inevitable, but we must proceed with caution." The deep voice sounded again, revealing a bit of sophistication and cunning. "That guy is not a fool. He has already noticed something. We can't leave him any clues."
"What did the adults say?" The rough voice sounded a little impatient, "We can't keep being passive like this."
"The adults have their own arrangements." The third voice responded coldly, "We just need to act according to the plan. We don't need to worry about the rest."
At this point in the conversation, the firelight in the house seemed to dim a little, as if even the tense atmosphere in the air was suppressed to a heavier level.
Hawkeye secretly thought that since they mentioned "Adult", then this "Adult" might be the mastermind behind all this and the person he was looking for.
After hearing this conversation, Hawkeye knew there was no need to listen any further. He groped forward, trying to leave, but unexpectedly he touched a hard object, which turned out to be an axe!
