Chapter 33 Memory Fragments
Chapter 33 Memory Fragments
Sun Hang picked up the jeans that fell on the ground and took out an old-fashioned smartphone from his pocket.
The girl’s smartphone used a fingerprint lock, but when Sun Hang pressed his finger on it, the sound of successful unlocking sounded immediately.
He just imagined "changing" his fingerprint into that girl's fingerprint, and everything happened naturally - although he had never carefully observed the shape of the girl's fingerprint, a lot of information was recorded in the small part of "Tai Sui" he had just absorbed, including various physical data of the original host.
Not only that, after swallowing that small part of "Tai Sui", Sun Hang clearly felt that his "ability" had been enhanced. Previously, he would be unconscious for several hours if he changed the material of the metal nameplate, but now that he changed the fingerprint, the side effect was just a slight dizziness, which was almost negligible.
In addition, Sun Hang also felt that there seemed to be some extra memory fragments in his mind that did not belong to him.
These fragments randomly filled in the blank memories, and for a moment, Sun Hang had an illusion - it seemed that he was the girl possessed by "Tai Sui". Although those scenes were vague, they were as real as if he had experienced them personally.
Just like some strange dreams, when you wake up, it is difficult to remember the details of the dream, but when you try to recall them, you will find that those details you can't remember give you a very familiar feeling.
As if they all happened in the real world.
A certain sound, a person or object, or a certain combination of colors or even the brightness and angle of light... In your memory, there will always be a scene that perfectly matches your dream, just like two transparent photos overlapping each other.
Sun Hang saw a familiar fire. The raging flames filled his entire field of vision. Apart from the noise of the air being heated and squeezed, all other sounds were fading away from Sun Hang...
In the next scene, through a blurry filter, he saw many figures surrounding him. They were wearing armor, and their black face shields concealed all their expressions.
The scene changed, and Sun Hang found himself in an empty basement. The corners of the basement were filled with skeletons of either humans or animals. Many people whose facial features could not be seen were walking back and forth in the basement, their movements stiff and numb.
Is this the girl’s memory, or Tai Sui’s memory?
Sun Hang shook his head vigorously, and used his willpower to "seal" these memory fragments that kept flashing back before his eyes.
He turned his attention back to the phone that had just been unlocked.
The girl's phone had three missed text messages and two missed calls. The most recent missed call was made a minute and a half ago.
Sun Hang opened the three text messages first. The first one was very short, with only six words: "Have you bought the things?"
The second text was even shorter: "Where are you?"
There was a full five minutes between the third and second text messages, and the tone between the lines had changed from urging to questioning: "Why haven't you come back yet? What are you doing?"
Then came two missed calls, less than ten seconds apart.
The first missed call rang for thirty seconds until the prompt tone "The number you dialed is temporarily unanswered" sounded, and then it was hung up; the second missed call only rang for two seconds.
The three text messages and two missed calls all came from the same number, a local mobile phone number in Tianfu City, and the only number saved in the girl’s mobile phone address book - but although she saved this number, she did not make any notes about it.
Sun Hang didn't hesitate and called the number back. "Beep...beep...Sorry, the number you dialed is unavailable."
"It has been cancelled? Such a quick reaction?" Sun Hang frowned slightly.
This matter should perhaps be reported directly to the Institute of Weird Things or the Bureau of Abnormal Investigation, but in Sun Hang's subconscious, he was extremely resistant to this matter.
He didn't know why he had such an idea, but in his opinion, it was the "right" thing to do.
He began to doubt his identity before he lost his memory. He tried to recall it again, but the memory fragments that popped up were extremely confusing. A large number of memories that "should not" belong to him were intertwined, forming one bizarre scene after another and an extremely absurd and illogical plot.
The memories from the girl, or in other words, from "Tai Sui", have not been fully digested by Sun Hang. They are like a pile of messy files without any classification. Once the folder "memory" is opened, they all pour out at once.
"Fuck it." Sun Hang cursed in a low voice and stopped reminiscing.
We can talk about finding the memory later. The most urgent task is to find "Tai Sui" first.
Those cult members must have been alert by now. Judging from the speed at which they cancelled their mobile phone numbers, if they delayed any further, even if Sun Hang found their base, it would probably be deserted.
It is not too late.
Sun Hang closed his eyes, and a vague yet familiar route emerged in his mind.
This was the path he took almost every morning - or to be more precise, this was the path the girl took almost every morning.
The end of this path is not far away, it is within this old community.
Sun Hang carried the bag of fried dough sticks and buns bought by the girl and returned to the first floor. Then he closed his eyes and let the familiar feeling in his memory lead him to his "destination".
It seems that the construction of this residential community was forced to stop halfway through. Nearly one-third of the buildings in the community are unfinished buildings with only a concrete frame.
Solidified sand, rusted steel bars, and aged yellowed plastic pipes can be seen everywhere in the corners of the community. The randomly connected and wired wires have cut the sky into irregular polygons of various sizes. A crudely made Ultraman doll was abandoned beside a weedy flower bed. A little further away, a group of ants were besieging a slug, which was struggling hard and leaving a long trail of mucus on the dry ground.
Sun Hang closed his eyes, but these images kept appearing in his mind... In reality, the Ultraman doll had been picked up by someone long ago, and the ants and slugs had also disappeared long ago. The only things that remained unchanged were the familiar path and the familiar buildings around it.
"Building 13, unit 2."
Sun Hang stopped and opened his eyes.
