Chapter 66 An unexpected surprise
Aunt Wang shook her head, "I was just talking nonsense before, I didn't expect it to actually involve the house." She quickly waved her hand.

Bai Jing laughed, "Aunt Wang, don't be nervous. There are no outsiders here, and we haven't been talking nonsense outside, have we?"

Luo Chunhua knew her daughter well, and seeing her like this, she knew that she had another idea in mind.

"Then what do you suggest? You can't expect me to go home and take care of Dad, can you? If I lose my job, wouldn't that be even worse?" A deep male voice suddenly spoke up.

"Hmph, I see now. You're trying to force me, aren't you? Yang Jianshe, let me tell you, no way. If you're not going to serve me, then forget it. I'm taking the kids back to my parents' house."

The woman roared, followed by a loud banging on the door.

Then came a clattering sound in the corridor, the sound of a woman walking away.

Bai Jing's eyes darted around, and she immediately stood up. "Mother, I'm going out for a bit."

Before Luo Chunhua could speak, Bai Jingren ran out.

Bai Jing followed the sound and saw a woman walking and wiping away tears in the distance.

"Excuse me, ma'am, please wait a moment." Bai Jing quickly ran forward.

Just as Luo Jie was feeling heartbroken, someone patted her on the shoulder, and she stopped walking with a displeased expression on her face.

"Who are you, little girl? Do you need something?" Seeing that it was a little girl, she wiped away her tears and forced a bitter smile.

“Sister, I am the family member of your neighbor in the ward next to yours. I heard what happened just now. I think you must have a good job, otherwise you wouldn’t be in so much pain.”

Upon hearing that the girl was a family member from the ward next to her father-in-law's, Luo Jie took a second look at the young girl.

"You're not much older than my child, so don't call me 'big sister,' just call me Aunt Luo. Little girl, is there something you need?"

Luo Jie wasn't stupid. She knew the young girl must have something to say to her, and she'd overheard her family arguing. She wondered what the matter was that the girl had come to her about.

"Aunt Luo, how about we find a quieter place to talk?"

Bai Jing smiled foolishly.

Luo Jie was indeed feeling bad. Although she didn't know why the young girl wanted to see her, she was still willing to listen to what she had to say.

"Let's go over there, it's cool under the trees there," Luo Jie said, pointing to a large tree not far from the hospital.

"Okay." Bai Jing glanced at the other person's hand and, seeing that there were no people around, agreed.

Upon arrival, Bai Jing didn't waste any time and recounted what she had learned from Aunt Wang and what she had just overheard.

“Aunt Luo, since Grandpa is sick, he definitely needs to stay home to take care of him. You don’t want to give up your job, and you don’t want to benefit Grandpa’s daughter. Why don’t you sell the old man’s house? With that money, you can hire someone to do the work, and you can make up for the loss. You don’t need to quarrel with your uncle over this.”

"As the saying goes, if a couple is not on good terms, the villain will benefit. If your uncle really dislikes you because of taking care of the elderly, Aunt Luo, who do you think will benefit in the end?"

Bai Jing's words hit Luo Yi right where it hurts.

“Our family certainly doesn’t lack houses, but if we’re going to sell a house, I can’t make that decision. I need to go back and discuss it further. Young lady, if this really works out, I’ll come to you first.”

Since her sisters-in-law are unwilling to lend a hand, then they shouldn't expect any good things either.

Besides, they don't have the money to buy a house, and they'll be in debt for who knows when they'll get it back.

It would be better to sell it to outsiders. At least she would get the money, and then she could hire someone to do the manufacturing for her. Not only would she keep her job, but she would also have a large sum of money in hand.

She never intended to abandon the elderly, but her sister-in-law's behavior was so disruptive that it annoyed her.

Furthermore, her husband doesn't care about her and only listens to his two younger sisters saying that she is unfilial, so he has also started to treat her coldly.

But what did she do wrong?

Why should she give up her job for her father? Finding a job these days is difficult enough, let alone a respectable and well-paying one like hers. Others would kill for it.

She knew exactly what her sister-in-law was up to; she just wanted to replace her at work. Dream on.

She wouldn't give them her job even if she sold it.

Bai Jing knew that she had said enough; saying any more would only annoy people.

“Okay, Aunt Luo, go back and think about it again. My mother’s surname is also Luo, isn’t this fate that brings us together?”

"What a coincidence! This surname is quite rare around here. Little girl, where is your mother from?" Luo Jie suddenly became interested.

Although Bai Jing didn't know if what she said was true or false, she still gave her maternal family's address: "My mother is the daughter of Tie Village under Yongxing Commune. She married into Baijia Village in Fumin Commune."

Upon hearing that it was a place she wasn't used to, Luo Jie's earlier enthusiasm waned somewhat.

"Oh, I see. We're not from the same place. My family is also from out of town, but we're from the southern province."

After exchanging a few more words, the two parted ways.

When Bai Jing returned, she ran into Aunt Luo's husband.

He seemed like an honest man, but he looked very haggard, probably because his father was sick.

Upon meeting him head-on, Bai Jing simply nodded and headed towards the ward next to his house.

Inside the ward, Luo Chunhua and Aunt Wang were chatting happily when Bai Jing returned, and both of them turned their attention to her.

"Were you chasing after that woman in the next ward just now?" Aunt Wang blurted out before Luo Chunhua could even finish her thought.

Bai Jing walked over with a smile, "Yes, Aunt Wang's idea was great. I just wanted to ask her what would happen if it actually came true."

“That’s right, it’s good to ask, what if it works out?” Aunt Wang really liked Bai Jing’s quick wit.

Luo Chunhua didn't have high hopes. These days, housing in the city is so scarce, and no matter how well-off her family is, she can't sell the house.

But hearing her daughter say that piqued her interest, "So, did she agree?"

“There’s no time to make a decision so quickly. She said she’d go back and discuss it. I told her she could come find me here once she’s made a decision.”

However, Bai Jing was still a little curious, "Aunt Wang, do you know where the couple next door work?" They must have a good job to sell if they have extra houses to sell.

It would be good to form a positive connection.

"I actually know that." Aunt Wang chuckled; this was exactly what she was asking for.

"Tell me about it." Bai Jinglai immediately picked up an apple and placed it in Aunt Wang's hand, asking her to tell her about it.

"I overheard something about the old man next door's son. Apparently, he works in a government agency and is a minor leader. The house they live in was allocated to them by his agency."

It was precisely because he was a minor leader in a certain unit that he dared not openly hire a nanny to take care of the old man at home.

"That woman seems to be an office clerk at the supply and marketing cooperative. That's a job that most people would kill for."

After learning where the two worked, Bai Jing felt that the chances of selling the house were much higher.

"Does he only have one son?" She knew he also had two daughters. These days, married daughters rarely have access to their parents' family's wealth, which is why she asked if he only had one son.

"Of course, I heard that before the old man retired due to illness, he was also a government employee in the town, but I don't know what his position was." Aunt Wang's ability to find out information is really good.

Bai Jing smiled; the news she received in exchange for a glass of milk and an apple was truly a pleasant surprise.
