Chapter 9: Conflicts Intensify
In later generations, Meng Youyou was unusually meticulous and demanding when it came to skincare. In addition, she had a congenital tendency to scar and was fair-skinned, so any minor injury that left a mark on her body would be particularly noticeable.

Fortunately, modern medicine is advanced, and effective scar removal creams can be bought in pharmacies everywhere.

Even if all else fails, the medical aesthetic scar removal techniques at beauty salons are immediately effective, so Meng Youyou, who has always loved beauty, has no worries.

But nowadays, forget about cosmetic surgery; even a simple scar removal cream is hard to find.

The other two men and one woman in the treatment room saw Meng Youyou become extremely frustrated because she couldn't find the scar removal medicine. She seemed to have lost her soul and vitality, as if the sky had fallen. Their expressions varied.

Chu Yao: "It's just a few scratches from a tree branch. Even if it leaves scars, how much of an impact will it have? Is it really necessary to make such a fuss?"

Huo Qingshan: "If any of my scars appeared on her body one day, she'd probably go crazy on the spot..."

Zhong Heng: "Suddenly I can understand what the battalion commander said. Interpreter Meng really is quite...precious?"

During routine training and missions, injuries have become an indispensable part of their military life. They even regard every scar on their bodies as a medal of honor and a source of pride.

Although Zhong Heng didn't quite understand Meng Youyou's feelings at that moment, he still maintained his usual considerate and thoughtful side. He tried to explore other methods for the translator Meng: "Medical Officer Chu, do you know any other ways to buy scar removal medicine?"

Chu Yao's gaze lingered on Meng Youyou. After thinking for a moment, she spoke slowly and deliberately: "This lady is probably not a local, right? Did she come from the capital? As far as I know, large hospitals in the capital may have some imported Western medicines for scar removal. If you really need it, you can try contacting your relatives and friends there to see if they know how to buy the medicine."

Meng Youyou: "Um... I just got here, and that lousy system still isn't working. I'm practically blind right now. How am I supposed to know if I have any relatives in the capital? Where am I supposed to contact them?"

Meng Youyou gave an awkward smile and stammered a vague explanation: "My family and friends in the capital... are just ordinary people. It's best not to bother them with such a small matter by crossing half of China. I feel a little bad about it."

Chu Yao inwardly rolled her eyes: "So you actually know this is a small matter?"

Hearing Meng Youyou's words, Huo Qingshan, standing to the side, suddenly let out a sarcastic smile on his sharply defined face: "Just ordinary people? The Meng family, who are currently enjoying great success in the capital, are considered just an ordinary family in your eyes?"

Zhong Heng was still unwilling to give up: "Is there any other way? Something closer to home, without having to go as far as the capital?"

Chu Yao pondered for a moment, then her eyes lit up and she exclaimed with delight, "Also, I've heard before that there's a reputable traditional Chinese medicine clinic in the neighboring town of Nanyu. It seems they once launched a scar-reducing cream. It's said that this cream is made from a variety of precious Chinese herbs through various processes, and it can promote blood circulation, reduce swelling and promote tissue regeneration, and has the wonderful effect of repairing damaged skin."

Upon hearing this, Huo Qingshan's eyes darkened slightly, but his face remained calm, and he stood there as if he were detached from the matter.

Zhong Heng pressed on, "What's the name of that traditional Chinese medicine clinic? Nanyu Town isn't far from here, I can apply to go out and buy it tomorrow."

Chu Yao sighed almost imperceptibly and continued, "Don't worry, I only heard this from the old people in the village. It happened quite many years ago. I don't remember the name of the clinic very clearly, but I think it was called Rui Xuan. It's said that because the production cost of this scar removal medicine was too high, it was expensive. Since the general public didn't have a high demand for scar removal, this kind of ointment gradually disappeared from the market and no longer exists."

Upon hearing this, Zhong Heng was slightly disappointed, but then suddenly seemed to have thought of something extraordinary, and quickly walked to Huo Qingshan's side by the window.

He hurriedly asked, "Commander Huo, aren't you from Nanyu Town? I remember you mentioned that several of your elders were traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. Since you're all in the same place and in the same profession, you must know something about the inside story, right?"

However, Huo Qingshan's reaction was unusually cold, unlike Zhong Heng's warm-heartedness. He simply replied emotionlessly, "I'm not sure," displaying an indifferent attitude.

After saying that, the man turned and left.

Zhong Heng stood there, stunned: "Although the battalion commander is usually stern and doesn't smile much, he's not usually this cold and serious. Could it be that the words Meng the translator said to their battalion commander on the training field a few days ago really made him hold a grudge?"
Otherwise, why would the battalion commander have been so hostile towards the matter of translator Meng?

Meng Youyou naturally noticed Huo Qingshan's cold and indifferent reaction, and directly sensed the deep-seated prejudice the man held against her. She felt resentful and dissatisfied, but couldn't find an outlet for her anger: "What a petty man! I haven't even targeted you like this! A grown man is more narrow-minded than a woman! I was just worried about the wound on your back, what a waste!"

Chu Yao stared at the door for a long time. Huo Qingshan had already left and was nowhere to be seen. She fell into deep thought.

The woman's intuition told her that although Huo Qingshan seemed to dislike the new translator, she had a strong premonition that this woman would be the biggest obstacle to the success of her plan.

She began to carefully recall her memories of her previous life, and after a while, she confirmed that there was no such person in the army at this time in her previous life.

This unexpected turn of events is not a positive sign. Could it be that my rebirth has triggered a chain reaction?

……

After leaving the infirmary, Huo Qingshan went straight back to his office. After sitting down and thinking for a moment, he made a call to the capital.

Meng Youyou was walking down the corridor of the office building, getting angrier and angrier as she walked. This was just too infuriating!
Just now, Zhong Heng remembered that Zhang Yong was also from Nanyu Town, so he pulled her along to ask Zhang Yong if he knew about that TCM clinic called Rui Xuan.

You wouldn't know unless you asked... and guess what?

Zhang Yong: "Ruizhixuan, right? This clinic is quite famous in our area, and it was opened by our Battalion Commander Huo's maternal grandfather. Ruizhi is taken from Battalion Commander Huo's maternal grandmother's name. You want to buy medicine, right? Just go directly to Battalion Commander Huo, it'll save you a lot of trouble."

Completely oblivious to the strange expressions on the faces of the two men in front of him, Zhang Yong was solely focused on promoting the story of their battalion commander's enthusiastic deeds, confidently assuring them, "Battalion Commander Huo will definitely agree!"

He also provided a logically rigorous example to support his point: "There was a soldier in our company who somehow got hives. He would get so itchy in the fall and winter that he couldn't sleep. Our battalion commander found out about it by chance and offered to get him some medicine. It turned out that Battalion Commander's grandfather's medical skills were truly superb and lived up to his reputation. He got better after taking the medicine for a few days and never had a relapse since."

Hearing this, Zhong Heng looked increasingly embarrassed and awkward, and was about to say a few words to defend their battalion commander.

He glanced at the translator Meng beside him, who had listened to the whole thing, and saw that her face was dark, her lips were tightly pursed, her eyes were flashing with a sharp light, and her whole person was exuding an undeniable anger.

After hesitating for two seconds, Zhong Heng finally spoke up: "Translator Meng, please don't overthink it. Our battalion commander is definitely not targeting you. There must be some misunderstanding..."

"No need to explain, I don't care." Meng Youyou didn't want to stay a second longer, and left immediately after saying that.

Meng Youyou thought angrily, "Since you dislike me so much and have such a big prejudice against me, and you're lying through your teeth by saying you don't know anything about the clinic that your family owns, it's obvious that you have a lot of opinions about me and don't want to help me."

The pacing of the early plot might not be that fast. I've been struggling with whether to cater to the market by piling on the exciting elements in the first few chapters, or to stick to my original concept and try to explain what I want to say clearly upfront, writing in the style and content I want.

In the end, I chose to follow my heart. Based on my current writing level and understanding, I believe that it is most natural and reasonable to lay the groundwork before the emotions develop gradually.

I hope some people enjoy what I write. Thank you for reading my book!
