Chapter 161 Warehouse Turmoil (Part 1)

The rain fell all night and only stopped at dawn, when the sky cleared.

Jiang Zheng left around that time.

Unexpectedly, it started raining again around noon. The rain continued unabated, and it even seemed to be getting heavier.

Layers of thick, leaden-gray clouds completely obscured the sky, making the manor at one o'clock in the afternoon seem as if it were shrouded in a huge, dark cocoon.

Raindrops pounded on the puddles on the ground, splashing up a dense spray of water. The landscape trees swayed violently in the storm, their branches and leaves being whipped mercilessly.

Outside, it was pouring rain, but most of the patrolmen took shelter under the eaves. Some cursed the uncooperative weather, while others chatted idly, played cards, or joked around. Still others were soundly asleep, enjoying a peaceful and tranquil afternoon nap.

It is difficult to relax vigilance.

Standing by the window, Chu Yao made up her mind. She decided to go to the warehouse in advance to scout out the equipment and select suitable water sports gear in order to avoid being flustered and wasting time in the dark at night.

The warehouse has only two floors, but it occupies a large area and contains all sorts of things, with a complete range of categories.

Chu Yao didn't use an umbrella on her way here, as that would make her too conspicuous and easily exposed. She was already soaked through, and her shoes were filled with water. With each step, you could hear the "plop plop" sound of her shoes hitting the ground.

Chu Yao squatted down, took off one shoe, and poured water out of it.

Just then, the sound of a car engine came from the warehouse entrance, growing louder as it approached, and then stopping.

Upon hearing the sound, Chu Yao hurriedly sought shelter nearby. She was in the ship's supplies storage area on the first floor, surrounded by thick cables, old buoys, and parts for small and medium-sized boats.

Chu Yao's gaze quickly locked onto a large wooden crate not far away. The crate was half-open, and inside were piles of dark blue canvas that were neither new nor old.

Chu Yao crouched low, her steps quick yet as light as possible. Just as the sound of the lock turning echoed in the spacious first-floor warehouse, she rolled over and crawled into the cargo box, completely covering herself with a canvas.

The linen canvas pressed against her nose emitted a damp, musty smell, clinging to her face and body, but none of that mattered. At this moment, Chu Yao's attention was solely focused on the movements of the two people who had entered the warehouse.

She recognized one of the words as Chen Biao's swearing, which was particularly noticeable. Chu Yao curled up, her eyes fixed on the two men outside through the gaps in the canvas. One of them, wearing tall black rubber boots, was facing away from Chu Yao and making the motion of closing an umbrella.

Chen Biao, on the other hand, was standing directly facing her.

Chu Yao subconsciously held her breath, her heart pounding like thunder in the quiet, crowded wooden box.

"Brother Biao, you can just stand here. The warehouse isn't cleaned often, it's dirty inside. If you need anything, just tell me and I'll go find it for you." The man in black rain boots spoke up. Even though Chu Yao could only see his back, she could imagine how obsequious he looked at that moment.

"That's more like it. Of all the people around you, I think you're the most pleasing to the eye."

Especially that Li Yasong, he's just unsettling. So what if he went to university? All he can do is calculate? What good is that? And what's with all that high-and-mighty attitude?"

After saying that, Chen Biao glanced around at the surrounding objects and muttered, "This sudden downpour is really a damn nuisance!"

Chen Biao pointed to the area in front and to the left and ordered, "Xue Hai, gather all the waterproof tarpaulins and plastic sheets from the warehouse for me, the more the better, we need them tonight."

His posture was arrogant and impatient, even though he wasn't the one who was supposed to do the work next.

After a flurry of activity, the man named Xue Hai dragged all the large pieces of waterproof tarpaulin from the warehouse to the doorway and piled them up.

He then moved closer to Chen Biao, smiling, and asked, "Brother Biao, is this enough for you? If not, I remember the food factory keeps some waterproof cloths in its warehouse, we can..."

Hearing this, Chen Biao interrupted impatiently: "Don't even mention it. That brat Jiang Zheng took his men over an hour ago and emptied the place out of everything, leaving me with nothing."

"If the boss hadn't repeatedly warned me, would I have let him into my territory and take things without even asking? Pah, who does he think he is!"

Xue Hai dared not respond to this, as he could not offend either side. So he could only awkwardly change the subject, saying, "If it's not enough, do you see some old canvas in that box over there? Could you use that to make up the difference? It's not as waterproof as oilcloth, but it's better than nothing."

Chen Biao looked in the direction he was pointing.

From Chu Yao's perspective, through the narrow, elongated gap, she could just make eye contact with Chen Biao's fierce and sinister eyes.
