Chapter 149 "Come here!" (Part 1)
Jiang Zheng slowly woke up around noon.
"You're awake? Would you like something to eat?" Chu Yao asked as she walked toward the bedside.
Jiang Zheng tried to sit up, but failed. The pain from the wound on his waist was still too intense, and his body was unusually weak and powerless.
Chu Yao hurriedly stepped forward to stop him from trying to get up, and said quickly, "Don't move around anymore. The wound has already reopened. Can you please behave yourself?"
The words that came out of her mouth carried a hint of reproach, but Chu Yao didn't have the mind to realize it.
After helping him lie down, she immediately checked his forehead temperature, muttering softly, "At least it's not so hot anymore."
Jiang Zheng, unusually obedient, did as she said, lying down quietly without moving and letting her do as she pleased.
He gazed at the girl's face; her delicate dark eyebrows were slightly furrowed and knotted together, making one want to wonder if she was angry, worried, or perhaps both.
Chu Yao took out the thermometer, shook it in her hand, and then tucked it in for him. After all that, her hands and feet were finally free. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the man's unwavering gaze, which seemed to be focused on her face.
The moment Chu Yao looked up, Jiang Zheng turned his head away, his gaze sweeping towards the windowsill.
Their gazes met but then they looked away.
The curtains were tightly drawn, and the hotel's matching burgundy heavy fabric, which was also double-layered, made it impossible for Jiang Zheng to judge the time from inside.
"What time is it? How long have I been asleep?" His voice was hoarse and his breath was weak.
“It’s almost midnight. You fell into a coma when I changed your dressing after you returned to your room last night, and you only just woke up.”
Chu Yao thought for a moment and then added, "You drank a lot of alcohol last night, and your wound shows signs of infection. You had a high fever all night."
Jiang Zheng didn't react much upon hearing this, and continued to ask, "Has anyone been here in between? What's the situation outside?"
“At 11:30 last night, the man who gave him the lighter came to knock on the door. I told him I was taking a shower, and he asked me to tell you that your boss is temporarily unable to get out of bed and walk, so he didn’t go back to the banquet hall and that you don’t need to go there.”
Waking up from a hangover, I was also accompanied by a gradually awakening headache, which felt like it was being pricked by needles. My head was dizzy and my stomach was also upset.
Jiang Zheng closed his eyes again, unable to bear it any longer. His thoughts were more sluggish than usual, but he still forced the power button on. The rusty gears creaked and groaned as they resumed operation, slowly and laboriously.
Reviewing the details of last night's banquet, it's clear from Xu Penggang and Li Yasong's reactions that they were unaware of Huang Zhiqiang's sabotage against them. This is one of the reasons why he later took the risk of breaking ties with Huang Zhiqiang.
People who are driven by profit and betray their masters for personal gain often share a common flaw—they are afraid of death.
By directly stating our position, we can not only intimidate him in the short term, but everyone is afraid that the underhanded tactics used on others will one day backfire on them.
Besides, a cornered dog is prone to jumping over walls; that's exactly what we want—for it to panic and run away without thinking.
Jiang Zheng suddenly felt a relief under his armpit. He opened his eyes and saw Chu Yao holding a thermometer, carefully observing the scale on it.
She muttered to herself, "36.9 degrees Celsius, thankfully the fever has subsided."
Noticing the man's gaze, Chu Yao asked again, "Do you want something to eat?"
"Okay," he answered softly.
Chu Yao returned to the living room and brought in the food, placing it on the bedside table. "There's millet porridge and pumpkin porridge. Which would you like?"
Which one do you prefer?
Chu Yao looked over, puzzled.
He quickly replied, "I don't care, it's all the same to me. Whichever you want to drink, I'll drink the other one."
In a lazy tone, he talked about a trivial matter.
Chu Yao's eyes flickered slightly, then she lowered her gaze, concealing the overreaction in her eyes. "Then you can drink millet porridge."
"it is good."
After responding, there was no movement for a long time. Chu Yao glanced at the bowl of steaming millet porridge, then at the man lying peacefully on the bed, and hesitated before asking, "Do you need me to feed you?"
Jiang Zheng raised an eyebrow, looking on with interest: "Didn't you tell me not to move around?"
