Chapter 72 Little Pleasures for Couples

Before Wen Ci could speak, Xue Li waved his hand and said generously, "Dr. Yu, what would you like to eat? I'll get you a serving."

Yu Qing shook her head and politely declined, "No need."

As he spoke, Xue Li stood up from his chair, strode towards the window, and generously pointed to the braised pork with vermicelli and sweet and sour spare ribs.

Sweet and sour pork ribs are a Friday special and are very popular.

Yu Qing whispered, "This soldier is so enthusiastic."

Watching Xue Li's retreating figure as he got his food, Wen Ci couldn't help but smile and tease, "Xue Li is definitely very enthusiastic, but he's still single."

She didn't mean anything by saying that.

A moment later, Xue Li returned with a lavish plate of food. The woman at the canteen window, assuming it was a soldier eating alone, gave him a large portion of rice, a full half-pound.

Yu Qing was slightly taken aback. Did they think she was some kind of glutton?!

"You..." Yu Qing hesitated, looking at Xue Li. Seeing his fiery expression, she held back and gave a faint smile: "Thank you. I'll give you the money tomorrow."

"Need not."

Wen Ci saw the food on the plate and resisted the urge to facepalm. She shook her head repeatedly; Xue Li seemed quite clever.

Why do you act like a clueless young man?

Wen Ci sighed softly. She didn't care anymore and slurped up a mouthful of vermicelli. If she delayed any longer, the pork stew with vermicelli would get cold. The addition of pickled cabbage to the vermicelli made the taste even better.

"Waaaah, I haven't had Northeastern Chinese food in so long, this tastes so authentic."

"I'm homesick too."

Zhu Jing is originally from Northeast China, and her Northeastern cuisine is of an even higher standard, making the soldiers shed tears of homesickness.

Xue Li smiled and said, "Doctor, why don't you try some?"

“It tastes really good!”

into the night.

Wen Ci was just about to lie down to sleep when she heard a rustling sound. Her eyes narrowed slightly, and she walked straight into the living room, looking at the clock on the wall. It was almost one o'clock in the morning.

Unable to sleep, she read some philosophy books in Huo Jingyuan's study for a while, and before she knew it, it was this late.

In the darkness, Wen Ci hid behind the door of the inner room, listening to the chaotic footsteps. She frowned slightly, and then the door of the inner room was pushed open.

Wen Ci was about to kick the doorway when she saw Huo Jingyuan and quickly pulled her foot back. She had used all her strength; breaking his ribs wouldn't have been a problem.

Wen Ci breathed a sigh of relief and then reached out to hug Huo Jingyuan. The man's body was cold, and she could feel the stubble on his chin.

Do men grow beards this fast?!

Didn't you say you weren't coming back?

I meant I might not come back.

Wen Ci keenly noticed the weariness in Huo Jingyuan's eyes and said with heartache, "Even if the mission is completed, you don't need to rush back to be with me."

"Ah."

She wasn't blaming Huo Jingyuan; she just hoped he would consider her feelings more. He hadn't rested for at least 36 hours.

A cold wind rushed into the room from outside. Wen Ci reached out and closed the door. The man's body gradually warmed up, and his rough hands reached into her waist.

"Miss me?"

"I didn't think about it." Wen Ci pushed the man's hand away, reached out and pinched his ear, giving it a gentle tug, and said, "What are you doing? Aren't you sleepy yet?"

"I'm not sleepy anymore as soon as I get home." Huo Jingyuan smiled, a sweet feeling welling up in his heart as Wen Ci pinched his ear.

As the old saying goes, "Spare the rod and spoil the child."

He and Wen Ci had an arranged marriage, and occasionally saying some crude things was a normal little pleasure between husband and wife, but they had never had such an intimate "fight" before.
