Chapter 36 The Living Yama?
"Is Wen Ci planning to go to work at the hospital today?"

Hou Li asked curiously when she saw her outfit.

Wen Ci nodded: "It's my first day at work, and I'm a little nervous."

Zhu Jing comforted her, "What are you nervous about? You can definitely do it."

Wen Ci's face lit up with a smile: "Thank you for comforting me."

Since breakfast at the military canteen is free, it's always packed. Luckily, the soldiers' morning run wasn't over yet, so the line didn't take long.

Is it Zhu Jing?

Zhu Jing planned to eat in the canteen before going back. She had just sat down and taken a sip of porridge when a man in military uniform came out of the kitchen, walked up to her, and asked her a question.

Zhu Jing nodded: "Yes, that's me."

She recognized the man in front of her; he was the Minister in charge of logistics for the Northwest Military Region. She had only heard her husband mention this high-ranking official once.

"I heard your ancestors were imperial chefs?"

"Yes." Zhu Jing nodded.

As she spoke, she looked at Wen Ci. Only a handful of people knew that her ancestors were imperial chefs, and among them, Wen Ci's husband held a military position.

Moreover, Wen Ci complained more than once during meals that the logistics department of the Northwest Military Region had missed out on a treasure.

"We'd like to invite you to cook, but we need to test your culinary skills first. When would you be available?"

Upon hearing this, Zhu Jing showed a delighted expression. She had complete confidence in her cooking skills, and it was practically a certainty that her boss would check them.

"Could I ask how much the head chef's salary is?"

"Thirty-five yuan per month."

The canteen in the Northwest Military Region has three cooks who take turns helping out, and their salaries are even higher than those of some young soldiers who have just enlisted.

"Three, thirty-five yuan?!" Zhu Jing's eyes widened.

Her husband only earns thirty yuan a month.

Zhu Jing: "I have time anytime, you can test me now."

The logistics manager smiled and said, "Not now, how about coming to the cafeteria at 2:30 this afternoon?"

Zhu Jing: "Okay, leader."

As soon as the logistics minister left, Zhu Jing looked at Wen Ci with a grateful expression, her eyes filled with tears, and choked up as she said, "Wen Ci, thank you."

Her husband has to hand over half of his salary to his parents for their retirement. Every month, after receiving his salary, there's not much left. They live frugally every month and can't save any money at all.

If she actually got a job as a cook, her life would be much better.

"Why thank me?" Wen Ci shook her head, her tone earnest. "Sister Jing, you're a pearl hidden in the dust; you'll be discovered eventually."

She only mentioned it to Huo Jingyuan once; whether she can successfully become the head chef of the Northwest Military Region's canteen depends on her own abilities.

However, she believed that Sister Jing could win over the leaders with her culinary skills.

After finishing their meal, Wen Ci and Sister Jing parted ways. The family compound and the hospital were in different directions. As they walked into the hospital area, they saw many doctors and nurses in white coats.

The hospital makes its own arrangements for both accommodation and meals.

Wen Ci arrived at the dean's office on the third floor. New nurses need to be trained by different doctors arranged by the dean. She stood outside the door and knocked.

At that moment, an older head nurse was sitting in the dean's office. Upon hearing the knock on the door, the dean smiled and said, "It must be the new nurse."

Immediately, he called out towards the door, "Come in."

With permission, Wen Ci pushed open the door and entered. Upon seeing the hospital director and head nurse, she lowered her posture and said in a soft voice, "Hello, I'm a newly hired nurse named Wen Ci." The hospital director nodded, his gaze falling on the head nurse. It would be up to her to decide which doctor would mentor the new nurse.

The hospital director smiled and said, "This is our hospital's head nurse, Comrade Wang Yan."

In the 1980s, the head nurse in the hospital held a higher status than many attending physicians, and nurses were extremely respected.

Wen Ci obediently said, "Hello, Head Nurse."

The head nurse nodded, pointed to the brand-new white nurse coat on the table, and slowly said, "You have to wear this to work every day. There are lockers in the hospital where you can change. After you change on the second floor, I'll take you down to find the doctor."

"Ok."
-
After changing her clothes, Wen Ci looked down at her white coat and instantly felt a sense of responsibility on her shoulders.

The hospital has outpatient and inpatient departments as well as a pharmacy.

The head nurse asked, "Do you recognize traditional Chinese characters?"

"I know him." Wen Ci nodded.

Led by the head nurse, Wen Ci arrived at an office where two young female doctors were sitting, one of whom Wen Ci had seen before.

Su Wanqing, who returned from abroad.

Wen Ci thought about it carefully, and if she remembered correctly, the female doctor sitting by the window should have this name.

The head nurse glanced back and forth between the two female doctors: "Dr. Yu, this new nurse is now with you. Feel free to use her if you need anything."

"Ok."

After the head nurse left, Wen Ci gave Dr. Yu a brief self-introduction: "My name is Wen Ci. Dr. Yu, please feel free to ask me anything."

"My name is Yu Qing."

Yu Qing's gaze fell on Wen Ci, and she asked curiously, "Comrade Wen Ci, why did you decide to come to the Northwest to become a nurse?"

"what?"

Wen Ci was a little confused.

She hadn't expected Dr. Yu to ask that question. She blinked, then smiled and said, "I came to the Northwest Military Region with my unit."

Accompanying the army?!
Yu Qing looked at Wen Ci with more admiration, but she didn't intend to press him further about his family situation: "Do you know anything about the medical field?"

Wen Ci answered honestly, "I don't know much about it."

From those few simple words, Yu Qing gleaned crucial information. She stood up and walked to Wen Ci's side, her smile gentle: "It's alright, the work at the Northwest Military Region Hospital isn't complicated. You'll get it after watching a few times."
-
Throughout the morning, Yu Qing took Wen Ci to familiarize herself with the hospital and meet the other doctors and nurses. At noon, they went to the staff canteen.

"Who exactly did Dr. Su come to the Northwest for?"

"I'm listening." The voice paused, softened, and continued, "First of all, the source of the good news isn't guaranteed. Dr. Su came to the Northwest because of the 'Living Yama' next door."

Wen Ci and Yu Qing had just sat down when they heard some shocking gossip.

Wen Ci didn't know who the Living Yama was.

You can tell from the nickname "Living Yama" that he's a ruthless guy in the military.

Wen Ci wasn't curious. It was her first day on the job, and she didn't want to seem too gossipy. She turned her head and asked, "Dr. Yu, are you a college student from a proper medical school?"

She noticed a scholarly air about Yu Qing.

Yu Qing shook his head: "My ancestors were barefoot doctors for three generations. I learned medicine from my parents when I was young, and later I went to the city to take the medical qualification exam."

Previously, regulations were not very strict; as long as a doctor was capable, they could treat and save lives. However, hospitals in the Northwest Military Region are also military hospitals, and doctors must obtain a qualification certificate to become doctors.

Are the qualification certificates easy to obtain?
