Marvel: The other side of the double-passing door is Devouring the Stars
Chapter 493 Saved!
Chapter 493 Saved!
"Be careful on the road," Mr. Luo patted his son on the shoulder. "Remember, coming back alive is the most important thing."
“I will,” Rowan said, giving his parents a deep look before turning and walking out of the house.
He didn't turn around because he knew that if he turned around and saw his parents' reluctant eyes, he would also feel sad.
Stepping out of the residential area, Luo Wen summoned his hovercar and entered his destination—the outer base of Fog Island. The car started, quickly ascended, and flew southeast.
The straight-line distance from Jiangnan City to Kirishima is approximately 1,500 kilometers. At the speed of a hovercar, it would take about three hours. Rowan sat in the driver's seat, maneuvering the car while recalling information about Kirishima.
Kirishima was originally an ordinary island off the southeast coast. But during the Great Nirvana, it underwent a tremendous change. The entire island was shrouded in dense fog that never dissipated. The creatures on the island mutated, giving birth to countless powerful flying monsters.
Initially, human forces attempted to retake Kirishima, but at a heavy cost. The flying monsters were not only powerful but also extremely cunning, adept at launching surprise attacks from within the dense fog. Ultimately, humanity was forced to abandon the effort and declare Kirishima a forbidden zone.
Later, with the rise of martial artists, Mist Island became a sacred training ground for high-level martial artists. Every year, a large number of martial artists went to Mist Island to hunt monsters and hone their skills. Of course, many also perished there.
"The monsters of Fog Island are mainly flying," Rowan recalled the data, "There are Fog Falcons, Wind Blade Eagles, Shadow Bats... The strongest among them is the Fog Dragon, a fifth-tier stellar-level creature, rare in number but extremely ferocious."
For ordinary stellar-level martial artists, Fog Island is an extremely dangerous place. But for Rowan, a seventh-tier stellar-level martial artist, it's simply a good place to practice.
Three hours later, the hovercar landed at the base on the outskirts of Kirishima. This was a military base built on the coast, specifically to provide logistical support for martial artists who went to Kirishima for training.
"Hello, please show your identification," the guard at the door stopped Rowan.
Rowan produced his Virtual Universe Company ID card. After scanning it, the guard's expression immediately became respectful: "So it's Mr. Rowan! A seventh-tier Stellar-level martial artist, welcome to the Fog Island Base!"
“Yes,” Rowan nodded, “I’m going to Fog Island for a month of training.”
“Understood, I’ll process your paperwork right away,” the guard said. “Please follow me.”
The formalities were completed quickly. The base's director, a third-tier stellar-level martial artist, personally received Rowan.
“Mr. Luo, the situation inside Fog Island is complex,” the person in charge said. “The dense fog will affect visibility and perception, so we suggest you activate your armor’s radar system. Also, while most of the monsters on the island are no match for you, they prefer to fight in groups. If you encounter a large horde, please handle it with caution.”
“Thanks for the reminder,” Rowan said. “I’ll be careful.”
"Then I wish you a successful training," the person in charge handed Rowan a communicator. "This is an emergency communicator; you can call for backup at any time if you encounter danger. Although you probably won't need it with your abilities, it's still safe to carry it."
Rowan took the communicator and put it into his storage space. Then, he walked towards the base's exit—a huge metal gate.
The gate slowly opened, and thick fog poured in. Rowan took a deep breath and stepped into the fog island.
Upon entering Fog Island, Rowan immediately sensed something different. A peculiar energy fluctuation permeated the air, and the dense fog seemed alive, constantly churning and shifting. Visibility was extremely low; he couldn't even see objects ten meters away.
"As expected, it lives up to its reputation," Rowan murmured.
He activated his armor. The black armor emerged from his storage space, instantly covering his entire body. This was a Class C armor provided to him by the Virtual Universe Corporation, boasting powerful defenses and equipped with various auxiliary systems.
The radar system on the armor's helmet activated, and the surrounding environment immediately appeared in Rowan's field of vision as a three-dimensional image. Although the dense fog obscured his vision, the radar system could detect energy fluctuations and map out the surrounding terrain and creatures.
"Life forms detected, 500 meters away, three in number," the armor's AI system announced. "Energy fluctuations indicate stellar-level, first tier."
“Very good, let’s start with them,” Rowan said with a smile.
With a swift movement, he pierced through the thick fog like a ghost, flying towards his target. As a seventh-tier Stellar-level martial artist, he could already fly freely in the air at an extremely high speed.
Soon, Rowan spotted his target—three fog falcons.
This is a massive bird of prey with a wingspan exceeding ten meters. Its feathers are greyish-white, blending perfectly into the dense fog. Its eyes are blood-red, gleaming with a ferocious light. At this moment, three fog falcons are circling in mid-air, seemingly searching for prey.
“They’ve spotted me,” Rowan felt the gazes of three mist falcons locked onto him.
The next moment, the three mist falcons simultaneously let out a sharp cry and swooped down towards Rowan. They were incredibly fast, and their claws and beaks gleamed with a metallic sheen, clearly having evolved to the point where they could tear through steel.
"Well done!" Rowan didn't retreat but advanced, accelerating to meet the three fog falcons.
When the two were less than 100 meters apart, Rowan waved his right hand, and a black longsword appeared in his hand. This was his weapon, a C-grade Force weapon, made of a special alloy, capable of carrying his Force, and possessing immense power.
"First move, Sky-Splitting Slash!"
With a single slash, Luo Wen unleashed a blade of light that ripped through the thick fog, aiming straight for the fog falcon at the forefront.
Mist Falcon tried to dodge, but Rowan's blade was too fast. In a flash, Mist Falcon's body was cleaved in two, blood and entrails splattering into the air.
“Too weak,” Rowan shook his head.
Enraged by the tragic death of their companion, the other two fog falcons let out furious screams. They attacked Rowan from both sides simultaneously, their sharp talons reaching for his head.
Rowan spun around, dodging the attack from the Mist Falcon on the left, and simultaneously slashed at the Mist Falcon on the right. This slash was faster and more cunning; the Mist Falcon had no time to react before its head was severed.
The last fog falcon finally felt fear and tried to escape. But how could Rowan let it get away? He waved his left hand, and a mental force transformed into an invisible blade, piercing into the fog falcon's brain.
The fog falcon froze and fell from the sky.
“A first-tier stellar-level monster poses no challenge to me at all,” Rowan sheathed his longsword, looking at the three corpses of the Mist Falcon on the ground. “I need to find some stronger opponents.”
He didn't collect materials from the Fog Falcon; the materials from these low-level monsters were worthless to him. What he wanted was battle, was training, not money.
Rowan continued deeper into Fog Island. Along the way, he encountered all sorts of flying monsters—Windblade Eagles, Shadow Bats, Iron Feather Vultures… These monsters ranged in strength from the first to the third tier of the Stellar level, but in Rowan's eyes, they were all a matter of a single strike.
"This is so boring," Rowan said with some disappointment after slaying the twentieth monster. "These monsters are too weak; they're not good enough for training."
He decided to venture deeper into the core area of Fog Island. According to the information, even more powerful monsters gathered there, including fourth and fifth-tier stellar-level beings.
As they ventured deeper, the fog thickened, reducing visibility to less than five meters. The surrounding environment became increasingly treacherous, filled with jagged rocks and withered trees.
"Strong energy fluctuations detected," the armor system suddenly alerted. "Distance 800 meters, energy level determined to be stellar-level 3, quantity... twelve." "Twelve stellar-level 3?" Rowan's eyes lit up. "Interesting."
He sped up and flew towards the direction of the energy fluctuations. Soon, he saw a swarm of shadow bats.
These shadow bats are enormous, each with a wingspan exceeding fifteen meters. They are entirely black, making them virtually invisible in the dense fog. Even more terrifying, they unleash ultrasonic attacks that can vibrate the brains of their enemies, causing temporary dizziness.
The twelve Shadow Bats had clearly spotted Rowan. They simultaneously emitted piercing ultrasonic waves, which created visible ripples in the air as they swept towards Rowan.
"A psychological attack?" Rowan sneered. "Too bad, you've met your match."
As a student of the Blood King, Rowan possessed not only a powerful physical body but also astonishing mental strength. The ultrasonic attacks from these Shadow Bats were completely ineffective against him.
“Since you’re using mental attacks, I’ll play along too,” Rowan said, a glint of light flashing in his eyes.
His mental energy spread out, like an invisible net, enveloping the twelve shadow bats. Then, he launched a mental attack.
The twelve shadow bats simultaneously let out shrill screams, their brains thrown into chaos by the mental shock. Some began to fly erratically through the air, while others even crashed into their companions.
"Your mental strength has indeed improved considerably," Luo Wen nodded in satisfaction. "The mental cultivation method taught by the Blood King is truly effective."
Taking advantage of the shadow bats' disarray, Rowan drew his sword and moved with lightning speed, weaving through the swarm. With each flash of his blade, a shadow bat plummeted from the sky.
In less than thirty seconds, all twelve Shadow Bats were killed.
“Still too weak,” Rowan shook his head. “Looks like I’ll have to go find the Mist Dragon. A fifth-tier Stellar-level Mist Dragon should be able to get me serious.”
Just then, a deafening explosion suddenly came from afar.
boom!
A massive energy surge emanated from the explosion's epicenter, even causing the thick fog to churn violently. Rowan's expression changed, and he immediately changed direction, flying towards the location of the explosion.
“The energy fluctuations in that direction are very strong, with at least two stellar-level auras,” Rowan thought as he flew. “Moreover, one of the auras is very unstable, as if it has been severely injured.”
Soon, Rowan saw the scene of the battle.
In a wide-open space, a young martial artist is fighting against three mist dragons.
The warrior appeared to be in his late twenties, clad in tattered armor and wielding a long spear. His face was pale, and he was covered in wounds, blood seeping from his wounds. Yet his gaze remained resolute as he thrust his spear at the mist dragon again and again.
Each of the three mist dragons is over twenty meters long, with serpentine bodies covered in grayish-white scales. They have wings, allowing them to fly freely in the air. Most terrifying of all are their mouths, filled with sharp teeth capable of easily crushing steel.
“Stellar-level, fourth tier,” Rowan scanned the energy fluctuations of the three mist dragons, “while that young martial artist is only at the Stellar-level, third tier, and severely injured. At this rate, he's doomed.”
Just as Luo Wen was observing, one of the mist dragons suddenly spewed out a thick fog. This was no ordinary fog, but a highly poisonous fog. The young martial artist had no time to dodge and was enveloped by the poisonous fog, immediately coughing violently.
"Oh no!" The young martial artist's face turned even paler, and his body swayed precariously.
The other two mist dragons seized the opportunity to launch an attack. One pounced from the left, opening its blood-red maw, trying to bite the young warrior's waist in one bite; the other lashed out from the right with its tail, which was like a steel whip, aiming for the young warrior's head.
The young martial artist strained with all his might, twisting his spear to barely block the bite of the mist dragon on the left. But he had no time to defend against the tail whip on the right.
"It's over..." the young martial artist thought in despair.
At this critical moment, a black blade of light descended from the sky.
The blade flashed like a waterfall, striking the mist dragon's tail. The mist dragon let out a painful roar as a section of its tail was severed, and blood splattered everywhere.
"Who goes there?!" The three mist dragons looked at the newcomer at the same time.
Rowan hovered in the air, his black armor standing out starkly against the thick fog. He held a long sword, his eyes cold, and he exuded a powerful aura.
"Seventh-tier Stellar-level?!" The young martial artist sensed Rowan's aura, his eyes flashing with surprise. "We're saved!"
The three mist dragons clearly sensed Rowan's power. They hesitated for a moment, then considered fleeing.
"Trying to run? Too late," Rowan sneered, his figure flashing as he instantly appeared in front of the nearest mist dragon.
The speed was too fast; the Mist Dragon couldn't react at all. Rowan slashed down, sending the Mist Dragon's head flying high into the air, its massive body plummeting from the sky.
Instant kill!
The other two mist dragons were terrified and fled in different directions without regard for their own safety.
"Did I let you leave?" Rowan waved his left hand, and two streams of mental energy transformed into sharp blades, simultaneously piercing the brains of the two mist dragons.
The two mist dragons froze, then plummeted from the sky, crashing to the ground and kicking up a cloud of dust.
The battle was over. From the moment Rowan made his move to the end, it took only three seconds. The three fourth-tier stellar-level mist dragons were like ants before him, easily slain.
The young martial artist stared blankly at everything, his face filled with disbelief: "Too...too strong..."
Rowan landed on the ground and approached the young martial artist: "Are you alright?"
"I...I'm fine," the young martial artist coughed a few times, managing to stand up with difficulty. "Thank you so much for saving me, senior! If it weren't for you, I would be dead here today."
Rowan sized up the young martial artist. He looked to be in his late twenties, with a handsome face, but his face was covered in blood. His armor was torn, and he had multiple wounds, the most serious one on his abdomen from which blood was constantly seeping.
“You’re badly injured,” Rowan frowned. “Treat the wounds first.”
He took out a bottle of healing potion from his storage space and handed it to the young martial artist: "This is a C-grade healing potion. Drink it, and you can quickly recover from your injuries."
"Thank you, senior!" The young martial artist took the potion and drank it without hesitation.
