Chapter 871 Taking You to Happiness Lane
Li Guizhi didn't like being watched, so she sat in her wheelchair in the yard waiting. Relatives surrounded her, and some even helped push her wheelchair.

"Aunt Zhi."

Lu Yuanqiu walked into the courtyard.

"Hey, Xiao Qiu." Li Guizhi looked haggard, but still managed a smile in response.

Lu Yuanqiu didn't rush forward. He stood still and knelt down in front of everyone.

Li Guizhi instinctively tried to push the wheelchair forward to help him, but she didn't have time. She could only watch with complicated emotions as Lu Yuanqiu earnestly kowtowed to her from the front.

Lu Yuanqiu stood up, his eyes red-rimmed, and shouted loudly:

"Lu Yuanqiu will take you to Lucheng today!"

"From this day forward! I, Lu Yuanqiu, am your own son!"

"I'll take care of you in your old age on Cao Shuang's behalf!"

Bai Qingxia and Ruan Yueru stood behind watching this scene. Bai Qingxia's tears quickly fell. She heard Lu Yuanqiu's voice, which was almost hoarse and trembling with sobs. She rarely saw Lu Yuanqiu like this.

The onlookers applauded and cheered.

Lu Yuanqiu's throat bobbed as he took a deep breath to calm himself. He didn't care about the applause, the praise, or the cheers. He stepped forward, bent down, and hugged Li Guizhi. Li Guizhi's eyes were already wet with tears. She opened her arms and patted Lu Yuanqiu's back.

She knew from Cao Shuang's high school days that some of his medical expenses came from the help he provided.

"Don't be sad, kid. You are the person Shuangzi admires the most. He would do the same thing even if it happened a million times over."

Lu Yuanqiu wanted to say that he was not worthy.

"Aunt Zhi, have you packed everything?" he asked softly, getting up to take the wheelchair armrest from a relative behind him.

Li Guizhi shook her head, somewhat embarrassed: "I don't know what to bring..." After she finished speaking, she noticed the girl standing over there.

She met Ruan Yueru once at the funeral. Although Ruan Yueru's hairstyle had changed, she recognized her at a glance because Cao Shuang often showed her photos.

Bai Qingxia immediately led Ruan Yueru over. Li Guizhi, sitting in her wheelchair, reached out her hand, and Ruan Yueru quickly extended hers. The two held hands together, remaining silent for a long time, but their tears flowed uncontrollably.

While helping pack, the villagers gradually dispersed, leaving only a few relatives to help.

Lu Yuanqiu sat on the edge of Cao Shuang's bed in his bedroom, bent down, and was amused. This guy didn't study hard in high school, but he kept all his high school textbooks in a cardboard box and didn't sell them.

I didn't expect this kid to respect knowledge so much.

Lu Yuanqiu casually picked out two books, flipped through them, and saw Mendeleev riding a broom on one of them... Okay, take back what I just said.

He opened a senior high school math book and paused when he saw the line of red pen writing "Ruan Yueru [heart] Cao Shuang" in the blank space on page 52.

Lu Yuanqiu closed the book, carefully smoothed out the creases, and put it back into the cardboard box.

There were also many small toys under the bed, which were placed in a cardboard box. There were plastic knives, guns, sticks, toy cars, Water Margin cards, and Ultraman cards. They all looked like things that elementary school students collect. Lu Yuanqiu's eyes widened for a moment. He reached to the bottom of the box and slowly pulled out a golden cudgel.

He had just picked up the golden cudgel and brandished it a couple of times when he looked up and suddenly saw a child wrapped in a thick cotton coat standing at the door.

The child, with two streams of snot running down his nose, held a painted wooden stick in his hand. He stared intently at the golden cudgel in Lu Yuanqiu's hand, his eyes filled with longing.

"What did you call Cao Shuang?" Lu Yuanqiu greeted him with a smile.

"uncle."

It turned out to be his nephew. Lu Yuanqiu brandished the golden cudgel in his hand and said to him, "Would you like to exchange your stick for my golden cudgel?" The nephew nodded: "Yes."

He immediately stepped forward and exchanged weapons with Lu Yuanqiu, then took two steps back, held the "genuine Golden Cudgel" in his hand, and brandished it with a few shouts.

"You're Brother Qiu!" the little nephew suddenly shouted at Lu Yuanqiu.

"Oh, your uncle has mentioned me before? But you should call me Uncle Qiu." Lu Yuanqiu patted his head and joked with a smile, "Did your Uncle Shuang ever tell you that I am the real Great Sage?"

After saying that, Lu Yuanqiu suddenly saw a small spider crawl to his feet, so he picked up the wooden stick he had exchanged and poked the spider to death.

The little nephew looked down at the scene and silently shook his head in response: "You are not the Great Sage."

"Although the Great Sage Equaling Heaven possesses extraordinary cultivation, he would never bully the old, weak, women, or children, not even insects!"

Lu Yuanqiu stared at him blankly.

"I am the true Great Sage!" The little guy struck a pose reminiscent of Sun Wukong with a serious expression, then grabbed his golden cudgel and rushed out of Cao Shuang's room.

Lu Yuanqiu stared at his retreating figure, slowly straightened up, glanced down at the "pirated golden cudgel" he had obtained in exchange, and said:

"Yes, I am not."

Ruan Yueru arrived at the door of the room at this moment. Lu Yuanqiu propped the stick against the wall and said to her, "See if there's anything you want to take with you. Take some."

"Ah."

She went into the room, while Lu Yuanqiu went out, closing the bedroom door behind him.

Ruan Yueru glanced around, picked up one of Cao Shuang's old schoolbags from the wall, and began to pick and choose things from the bed, the table, and under the bed to put into the schoolbag. But when she finished packing, she found that the schoolbag could not hold all the things she wanted to take. Helpless, she could only pick and choose some more things to take away.

After finishing, Ruan Yueru looked at the scissors on the table.

She thought for a moment, then walked over, picked up a pair of scissors, and cut a lock of long black hair from the roots in front of the mirror in the bedroom. Then she walked to the bedside and gently placed the lock of hair on Cao Shuang's pillow.

After packing their luggage, Lu Yuanqiu and Xiao Li Feibiao carried large and small bags to the car outside and put the luggage into the trunk. Li Guizhi held a black and white photo of Cao Shuang in her arms, Bai Qingxia pushed the wheelchair behind them, and Ruan Yueru carried Cao Shuang's old schoolbag, which was full of things taken from Cao Shuang's room.

Lu Yuanqiu carried Li Guizhi to the back seat of the car, folded the wheelchair up and put it in the trunk. Being a big guy himself, he went to sit in the passenger seat.

"Are you seated properly?" Little Li asked, turning his head to the side.

Bai Qingxia fastened Li Guizhi's seatbelt before saying, "All done."

Ruan Yueru hugged the bag in her arms tightly: "Okay."

Lu Yuanqiu turned to Li Guizhi and said, "Aunt Zhi, I'll take you to Happiness Lane."

After he finished speaking, he looked at the black and white photo in Li Guizhi's arms and smiled at Cao Shuang.

"lets go."

The villagers, bundled up in thick clothes, stood at their doorways watching the car start. Some cracked sunflower seeds, while others turned to chat.

Only the child holding the golden cudgel was intently swinging it at Cao Shuang's doorstep, making "heh heh ha" noises. The orange-red sunset hung in the sky, like a cloak falling on the child's shoulders.

The golden cudgel finally belonged to him.

 A new chapter begins.
