Chapter 586 You are not a burden

Bai Qingxia stood there for a long time, staring blankly at Bai Songzhe. She quickly went over and squatted down in front of her father, her eyes moist as she spoke in a trembling voice, "Dad? Are you alright? Could you... look at me and say it again?"

She grabbed her father's arm and shook it hard, but Bai Songzhe ignored her, his unfocused gaze still staring blankly at a point in the air.

"Go...and love."

Baek Song-cheol persistently repeated it for the fourth time, his weathered voice beginning to tremble.

"Okay, okay, I know... I know..." Bai Qingxia opened her arms and hugged her father, resting her chin on his shoulder. Two clear tears slid down her face, leaving two dark blue marks on Bai Songzhe's light blue short-sleeved shirt.

Aunt Zhang stood at the doorway, watching this scene with a puzzled look, before slowly walking in.

"Xia Xia."

Bai Qingxia turned around when she heard the voice. She quickly wiped away her tears and smiled at Aunt Zhang, saying, "Aunt Zhang, my dad just spoke to me!"

Aunt Zhang didn't rush to respond, but stared at Bai Songzhe's face and whispered to Bai Qingxia, "Old Bai cried..."

Bai Qingxia then looked at her father's face again. Tears were streaming down Bai Songzhe's chin from the corners of his eyes. Seeing this, Bai Qingxia couldn't help but feel a lump in her throat.

She quickly raised her fingers to wipe away his tears, sobbing as she comforted him, "Daddy, don't cry, don't cry. Your daughter is happy and blessed every day. She has met someone she loves, and she will work hard to pursue her happiness and live a good life. The hardships are over, over..."

Bai Songzhe shed more tears. Seeing this, Aunt Zhang quickly pulled out a tissue from the side and handed it to Bai Qingxia, who quickly took it.

Looking at the scene before her, Aunt Zhang couldn't help but wipe her eyes with her palm. She hesitated and asked, "Should we take him to the hospital to see a doctor, Xiaxia?"

Bai Qingxia nodded immediately: "Go."

Lucheng No. 1 Hospital.

This time, Bai Qingxia didn't call Lu Yuanqiu or bother Su Xiaoya. She and Aunt Zhang took Bai Songzhe to the hospital. After meeting the head of the psychiatry department, Aunt Zhang had to go home first because Ranran was still at home.

"Said something? What did you say?"

Seeing that Bai Songzhe still looked dazed, the male director did a simple test on a few common physiological reflexes of the other party, and then asked Bai Qingxia.

Bai Qingxia hesitated for a couple of seconds before explaining, "He might... he might have seen me being quite close to a guy, but deliberately keeping my distance. This guy is someone I like, but..."

"But because of your father, you're not ready to be with him yet? Heh, you must be talking about Director Su's son, right? I've met that boy, and I can tell he likes you too." The male director interrupted with a smile.

Bai Qingxia's expression stiffened. Indeed, she had forgotten that this director knew Aunt Su. She lowered her head slightly and nodded.

"What did your father say?" the male director asked.

Bai Qingxia responded softly, "He said, 'Go and love,' and he said it four times."

The male director was taken aback by his words. He raised an eyebrow as if in thought, then smiled and continued to scrutinize Bai Songzhe. He exhaled, his gaze suddenly filled with a touch of emotion. "Young lady, I actually have a daughter too, about your age. Logically speaking, as a father, I wouldn't encourage my daughter to date other boys, especially... how old are you again?"

"Almost 19."

"Yes, my daughter is already 20, and I still don't want her to date, even though she tells me that she and that boy are truly in love."

The male director suddenly sighed, looked Bai Songzhe over, paused for a long time, and then continued:
"The hearts of parents are all the same. Your father must have regained some consciousness, otherwise he wouldn't have said those three words. This may be what he wanted to say to you most after being sick for eight years. He wanted you to bravely live the life you want to live, not to care about him, and not to be tied down by him. Fatherly love is as strong as a mountain. That's probably it. Because of love, he chose to let go."

Just as the male director finished speaking, he suddenly noticed that the girl at the table was crying. He exclaimed "Oh dear!" and quickly handed her a few tissues, saying, "Don't cry, don't cry. This is a good thing. It means that your father has regained some of his independent thinking ability."

“I won’t give up on him,” Bai Qingxia said.

The male director smiled and said, "Your father probably knows this too, which is why he's so anxious that he's already speaking up. I bet he's been paying more attention to Director Su's son than to you lately. The old father is so worried. So hurry up and go find someone to date, hahaha. Maybe if he sees his daughter happy, he'll feel relieved and recover from his illness even faster."

Bai Qingxia wiped away her tears, turned to look at Bai Songzhe, and then nodded to the male director: "Thank you, doctor."

"You're welcome. If you're not going to talk about it, I'll have my daughter do it. I'd like to arrange a marriage between our families, Director Su and me," the male director joked as he stood up.

Bai Qingxia stood up with an embarrassed expression, and helped Bai Songzhe to his feet as well.

As she and her father boarded the taxi home, Bai Qingxia gazed at Lucheng outside the window. She felt much more at ease, and gradually, a smile appeared on her face. She hugged Bai Songzhe's arm and rested her head on her father's shoulder with a happy expression.

"Dad, you're not a burden. I will pursue my own happiness," Bai Qingxia said to herself, thinking that her father might be able to hear her.

After returning home, Bai Qingxia checked again to make sure Bai Songzhe was in good condition before heading to the "Dancing Youth" dance costume store.

Upon entering the clothing store, Bai Qingxia saw a chubby figure sitting in the rest area, while the store owner was attending to another customer at the dance costume display counter.

Seeing Bai Qingxia standing at the door, the proprietress quickly said to her, "Please wait a moment, I'll be done soon."

Bai Qingxia nodded silently.

Only a year has passed, and the proprietress seems to have almost forgotten her. It makes sense, considering that when she last came, Bai Qingxia was wearing a school uniform and had her hair in a ponytail. But now Bai Qingxia has learned to coordinate her clothes, and her hairstyle has changed to long, straight black hair.

Seeing that Bai Qingxia was still standing at the entrance, the proprietress quickly said, "Don't stand there, go sit over there. There are snacks and disposable cups over there."

Bai Qingxia saw the chubby boy sitting in the rest area. She didn't like sitting next to strangers, so she smiled and shook her head: "It's okay, I'll just stand."

Seeing this, the proprietress could only smile apologetically and repeat, "Wait a moment," before continuing with her work.

The chubby young man sitting in the rest area stood up at this moment. Perhaps realizing that his presence was making the customers uncomfortable, he picked up his laptop and walked towards the rest area inside the store.
