At three-quarters past Chen hour, the morning mist had not yet completely dissipated from the mountains and forests, and the gates of Qingyun Academy were faintly visible in the haze. Fu Shaoping, with a long sword on his back and the ancient jade pendant he never parted from hanging at his waist, stood at the academy gate, gazing for a long time at this place that had witnessed his years of study. A gentle breeze blew by, stirring his clothes and causing his hair to flutter lightly. His eyes held both reluctance to part with the past and anticipation for the future.
Nangong Wan wore a light blue dress that perfectly accentuated her graceful figure. Holding an exquisite oil-paper umbrella, she stood beside Fu Shaoping, her eyes sparkling with a lively light. "Shaoping, are you really leaving?" her voice was soft, tinged with a barely perceptible melancholy.
Fu Shaoping turned his head, looked at Nangong Wan, and smiled warmly: "Yes, the world is so vast, we must always venture out. This academy is good, but it cannot hold us back."
Nangong Wan nodded slightly and handed the oil-paper umbrella to Fu Shaoping: "Then let's go. I hope our journey in the martial world will be as peaceful and beautiful as the time under this umbrella."
The two walked out of the academy gate side by side, with shouts and blessings from the students behind them. They didn't turn back, but simply waved and embarked on an unknown journey.
Leaving the academy, a winding path led to a lush forest on either side. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating dappled patterns that shimmered like scattered gold on the ground. Fu Shaoping and Nangong Wan strolled slowly along the path, savoring the tranquility and beauty of nature.
"Shaoping, what kind of extraordinary people and events do you think we'll encounter on this trip?" Nangong Wan asked curiously, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
Fu Shaoping gazed into the distance, a hint of longing in his eyes: "Perhaps we will encounter unparalleled masters who will teach us unparalleled martial arts; or we may discover mysterious treasures and unravel ancient mysteries. In any case, this will be an unforgettable experience."
As the two were talking, they suddenly heard the rapid sound of horses' hooves coming from behind them. They turned around and saw a group of men in black riding fast horses, kicking up a cloud of dust. Each of the men in black had a cold expression, and their eyes revealed a hint of murderous intent.
"Not good! They're from the Demonic Sect!" Fu Shaoping's expression changed, and he quickly drew his longsword, shielding Nangong Wan behind him.
Nangong Wan's heart tightened, and he gripped the oil-paper umbrella in his hand, watching the approaching man in black with vigilance.
The leader of the men in black reined in his horse and stopped, his eyes fixed on Fu Shaoping and Nangong Wan with a sinister look: "Hand over the 'Heavenly Profound Jade,' and I'll spare your lives!"
Fu Shaoping frowned: "What 'Heavenly Profound Jade'? We have no idea what it is."
The leader of the men in black sneered, "Stop playing dumb! The Demonic Sect Leader has already received word that the 'Heavenly Profound Jade' is on you. If you know what's good for you, hand it over now, or you'll all die here today!"
Nangong Wan was so angry that his face turned red: "Your Demonic Sect has always acted arrogantly and unreasonably. Today, even if we have to risk our lives, we will not hand over the item to you!"
The leader of the men in black roared, "Attack! Kill them!"
A group of men in black pounced like wolves. Fu Shaoping roared and charged forward, brandishing his longsword. His swordsmanship was fierce, each strike carrying a powerful aura, and several men in black fell to his blade in an instant. Nangong Wan was not to be outdone. The oil-paper umbrella in her hand seemed delicate, yet it skillfully deflected the attacks of the men in black, while also seizing opportunities to counterattack, injuring many of them.
However, the Demonic Sect's numbers were overwhelming, and Fu Shaoping and Nangong Wan were gradually finding themselves unable to hold their own. Just as they were in dire straits, a figure suddenly darted out of the woods, wielding a long sword, and joined the battle. This man was burly and his swordsmanship was fierce; he instantly felled several men in black, relieving much of the pressure on Fu Shaoping and Nangong Wan.
"Who are you? Why are you helping us?" Fu Shaoping asked while fighting.
Without turning his head, the man said, "My name is Lin Yu, and I have an irreconcilable hatred for the Demonic Sect. Today, I was passing by this place and saw you being besieged by the Demonic Sect, so I stepped in to help."
With Lin Yu's arrival, the tide of battle gradually turned. The three worked together, driving the men in black back step by step. Finally, seeing the situation was dire, the leader of the men in black blew his whistle and led the remaining men in a hasty retreat.
Fu Shaoping sheathed his sword and bowed to Nangong Wan and Lin Yu to express his gratitude: "Thank you both for saving my life. I am Fu Shaoping, and this is my good friend Nangong Wan."
Lin Yu returned the greeting with clasped hands: "No need to be so polite, I am Lin Yu. Judging from your appearance, you are about to leave the academy to travel the world, right?"
Nangong Wan nodded: "Yes, we were just about to venture into the martial world when we unexpectedly encountered the Demonic Sect as soon as we left the academy."
A hint of admiration flashed in Lin Yu's eyes: "You two are so young, yet you have such courage and strength, it's truly admirable. In that case, why don't you travel with me and look out for each other?"
Fu Shaoping and Nangong Wan exchanged a glance, then nodded: "Great, it's our honor to travel with Brother Lin."
So the three of them set off together on their journey through the martial world.
The three walked along the path for a long time until they arrived at a bustling town. Shops lined both sides of the town's streets, and people came and went in a lively atmosphere. Various calls of vendors and laughter mingled together, creating a vivid scene of everyday life.
Fu Shaoping, Nangong Wan, and Lin Yu entered an inn and found a seat by the window. The waiter hurriedly came forward and greeted them warmly, "Gentlemen, what would you like to eat? Our signature dishes include braised pork ribs, sweet and sour carp, and stir-fried seasonal vegetables. We guarantee you will be satisfied."
Fu Shaoping glanced at the menu and said, "Give me a braised pork rib, a sweet and sour carp, and a stir-fried vegetable dish, plus three jugs of wine."
The waiter smiled and responded, then turned to prepare the food. Soon, the food was served. The three ate their meal while discussing matters of the martial world.
"I've heard that a mysterious assassin organization has recently emerged in the martial arts world, specializing in assassinating the leaders and masters of various sects, which has already caused quite a stir," Lin Yu said.
Nangong Wan frowned: "This assassin organization is so rampant, isn't anyone going to do anything about it?"
Fu Shaoping shook his head: "The affairs of the martial arts world are complicated, and there are conflicts of interest between many sects. Some sects may even be happy to see this assassin organization emerge. Moreover, this assassin organization operates very secretly, and it is very difficult to find their traces."
Lin Yu nodded: "Yes, this assassin organization is like a malignant tumor. If it is not eradicated as soon as possible, it will bring even greater disaster to the martial arts world."
As the three were talking, they suddenly heard a commotion outside the inn. They stood up, walked to the window, and looked out. They saw a group of people gathered around a stall, arguing incessantly.
“Let’s go see what happened,” Fu Shaoping said.
The three left the inn and arrived at the stall. An old man sat on the ground, displaying antiques and weapons in front of him, surrounded by a group of thugs. The leader of the thugs said arrogantly, "Old man, our boss has taken a liking to these things. If you know what's good for you, hand them over now, or you'll be in trouble!"
The old man said in a trembling voice, "Gentlemen, these things are the result of my hard work collecting them. You can't just take them away like this!" The thug sneered, "Enough nonsense! Our boss has everything he wants. If you don't hand them over today, don't blame us for being impolite!"
As he spoke, the thug reached out to snatch an antique vase from in front of the old man. The old man desperately tried to protect the vase, but the thug pushed him to the ground, and the vase shattered into pieces.
"Stop!" Fu Shaoping shouted, drew his longsword, and walked over.
The thugs were taken aback when they saw Fu Shaoping, then burst into laughter: "Hey, another clueless bastard has arrived. Brothers, get him! Take this one down too!"
A group of thugs charged at him, brandishing clubs. Fu Shaoping, undaunted, wielded his longsword to meet them. His swordsmanship was fierce; each strike accurately hit the thugs' vital points, and several fell to the ground instantly.
Nangong Wan and Lin Yu were not to be outdone. One wielded an oil-paper umbrella, and the other a long knife, and they joined the battle. The three worked together seamlessly and quickly routed the thugs, who fled in disarray.
The old man looked at Fu Shaoping, Nangong Wan and Lin Yu gratefully: "Thank you three benefactors for saving my life. If it weren't for your help, I would be here today."
Fu Shaoping said with a smile, "Old man, there's no need to be so polite. It's what we should do to help those in need."
The old man took out a package from his pocket and handed it to Fu Shaoping: "My benefactor, this is a small token of my appreciation. Inside are some silver and some antiques. I hope you will accept it."
Fu Shaoping quickly waved his hand: "Old man, we didn't save you for money. You should keep these things for yourself."
The old man insisted, "My benefactors, you must accept this. This silver is my life savings, and these antiques are my most cherished possessions. You saved me, and I have no way to repay you except to express my gratitude with these things."
Seeing the old man's insistence, Fu Shaoping had no choice but to accept the package: "Alright then, old man, we'll reluctantly accept it. Be careful when you're out alone in the future, and run away as soon as you encounter danger."
The old man nodded: "Don't worry, my benefactor, I'll remember. I'm so grateful to you all today, otherwise I really wouldn't know what to do."
The three bid farewell to the old man and returned to the inn. They opened the package and found that, in addition to silver, there were some rare antiques and weapons inside. Fu Shaoping examined the antiques and weapons carefully and suddenly noticed a dagger among them, engraved with some strange runes.
“This dagger looks rather unusual; the runes on it seem to be hiding some secret,” Fu Shaoping said.
Lin Yu leaned closer to take a look: "I also think this dagger is a bit strange. Maybe it's related to that mysterious assassin organization."
Nangong Wan nodded: "No matter what, let's keep this dagger safe for now. We might need it someday."
So the three carefully put away the dagger and continued strolling around the town. They visited the market, watched performances, sampled local delicacies, and had a pleasant time.
However, the peaceful days didn't last long. That evening, as the three were resting in their inn room, they suddenly heard a fierce fight outside. Fu Shaoping's heart tightened, and he quickly drew his longsword, saying to Nangong Wan and Lin Yu, "Not good! It might be the Demonic Sect chasing after us. Let's go out and see."
The three left their room and entered the inn's lobby. The lobby was a scene of utter chaos; tables and chairs were overturned, and the floor was covered in blood. Several innkeepers and guests lay in pools of blood, their fates unknown.
"It was the Demonic Sect who did it!" Lin Yu said angrily. "They are so cruel that they don't even spare innocent civilians!"
Fu Shaoping gritted his teeth: "No matter who did it, we must make them pay! Let's go, let's go after them!"
The three followed the sounds of fighting and arrived at a wooded area outside the town. Flames were raging in the woods as a group of men in black battled a group of mysterious figures. The mysterious figures were all agile, dressed in black night clothes, and their faces were covered by masks, obscuring their features.
"Who are those mysterious people? Why are they fighting with the Demonic Cult here?" Nangong Wan asked in confusion.
Fu Shaoping shook his head: "I don't know either, but let's see how things go first."
Just then, a mysterious figure spotted Fu Shaoping and his group and shouted, "There are people over there! They're enemies of the Demonic Cult!"
Hearing the shout, the men in black turned around and pounced on Fu Shaoping and his group. Fu Shaoping yelled, "Damn it! We've fallen into a trap! Run!"
The three turned and ran, but the men in black pursued them relentlessly. They dodged and weaved through the woods, trying to shake off the pursuers. However, the men in black outnumbered them and were familiar with the terrain of the woods, and Fu Shaoping and his companions gradually became exhausted.
"This can't go on. We need to find a way to get rid of them," Lin Yu said.
Fu Shaoping looked around and suddenly noticed a small river not far away. "Let's jump into the river and drift with the current; maybe that will help us get rid of them," Fu Shaoping said.
Nangong Wan and Lin Yu nodded, and the three of them quickly ran towards the river. Reaching the riverbank, they jumped in without hesitation. The current was swift, and they were tossed about by the current, but they held tightly to each other, struggling to maintain their balance.
The men in black chased after Fu Shaoping and his companions to the riverbank. Looking at the rushing water, they hesitated for a moment, but ultimately did not jump in. They stood on the riverbank, cursing Fu Shaoping and his men viciously.
Fu Shaoping and his companions drifted downstream for a long time before finally shaking off the men in black. They reached the shore, soaking wet and disheveled. But they didn't have time to rest; they quickly found a secluded spot and cautiously observed their surroundings.
"We were lucky to react quickly today, otherwise we would have been caught by the men in black," Nangong Wan said with lingering fear.
Fu Shaoping nodded: "Yes, the Demonic Cult is so treacherous and cunning, we must be even more careful in the future. But who exactly are those mysterious people? And why are they fighting against the Demonic Cult?"
Lin Yu frowned: "I also find it strange. Perhaps we can inquire around and see if we can find any clues."
The three discussed the matter and decided to find a place to rest for the night before going to inquire about news the next day. They found a cave nearby, started a fire, dried their clothes, ate some dry rations, and then rested. (End of Chapter)
