Chapter 18 Fish Catching Training
Today we went to the ice lake a little later than yesterday, but with the right fishing methods, Guo Mi caught even more fish than yesterday.

The claws are becoming faster, more accurate, and more ruthless, and the number of failures is decreasing.

The two bear cubs didn't just sit and wait; instead, they actively participated.

After Guo Mi stuns the fish she has caught with her bear paw again, the two little furballs will happily run over, drag the fish they have caught away, and gather them into a pile.

Later, Guo Mi thought of the way humans catch fish. She deliberately picked a piece of meat with a lot of fat, which was rare on the fish, bit it, and then threw it into the water.

The greasy white fat carried the fish meat floating on the lake, undulating gently with the ripples on the water.

Guo Mi stood by the lake, waiting patiently. The little bear also curiously came over and obediently kept quiet. The three bears huddled together, stretching their necks and looking at the lake with unblinking eyes.

After a period of quiet waiting, a fish finally swam towards the "bait" floating on the water, its mouth touching the flesh little by little, as if it were checking if it was safe.

The two little bears had bright, sparkling eyes. They forced themselves to suppress their excitement, licked their lips as they looked at the fish in the lake, and then turned to look at Guo Mi.

Guo Mi gave them a "don't be impatient" look and continued to wait confidently.

The first fish, having finally found safety, wiggled its slippery body and began to tear at the piece of flesh.

This was undoubtedly a signal, and another fish swam over, seemingly ready to share the meal with the first fish.

After a brief silence upon meeting, the two fish erupted into a fierce struggle!

No one can swallow this piece of meat whole; they can only tear at it and try to drive the other away.

The conflict quickly attracted more fish, and before long, a third fish joined the fight!

Guo Mi finally got the opportunity she wanted. Her eyes narrowed, and she raised her bear paws to strike swiftly!

Two splashes rang out one after the other, and two fish leaped into the air, their scales shimmering with tiny reflections. They drew an arc in the air before crashing heavily onto the shore, leaving two fish-shaped marks in the snow. They then began to struggle and jump vigorously, quickly leaving more marks on the snow.

Guo Mi asked the little bear to keep an eye on the two fish and not let them jump back into the water.

The salmon and fish bones immediately stepped forward and, in perfect unison, pounced on the two fish.

Surprisingly, the fish, which is usually so vulnerable under the claws of the bear, appears unusually fierce in front of the two bear cubs!
Coincidentally, these two fish were among the larger ones that Guo Mi caught, which was a challenge for the two bear cubs who were just learning to hunt.

The fish, which have just been brought ashore and are still lively and jumping around, are at the peak of their survival instinct. Their mucus has not dried or frozen, but instead, it has kept their bodies moist and slippery thanks to the snow on the shore.

The salmon raised its tiny claws and pinned the fish under its claws, then lowered its head to bite the fish's head. Unexpectedly, the fish under its claws struggled and quickly slipped out of its grasp using the slime on its body!

She could only try again to hold the fish down.

Seeing her sister's failure, the fishbone decided to start by attacking the fish from its tail.

Who knew that I would suffer the same fate as the fish because of its slippery skin? Not only did I fail to hold the fish down, but I also got slapped twice by the fish's tail!
Fishbone was stunned by the slap. After regaining his senses, he hesitated and looked at Guo Mi with a pleading look.

However, Guo Mi did not respond to his gaze, but simply looked at him quietly, her eyes conveying encouragement and an undeniable sense of refusal.

Fish is probably one of the least aggressive prey in a polar bear's diet.

Although Fishbone is timid and not particularly strong, that doesn't change the fact that he is a small male bear.

Compared to female bears, male bears have much more diverse social interactions with their own kind, but precisely because of this, they are also much more likely to have conflicts.

Guo Mi did not want to force him to change his personality. Although his cowardly nature could not make him brave and good at fighting, retreating at critical moments might be the only option to save his life.

But he must have the ability to survive, at least not choose death without resistance when there is no way to avoid it.

Fishbone, having received no help, stood pitifully and helplessly in place, watching the fish's claws thrashing about in front of it with no recourse.

He thought that given enough time, Guo Mi would finish the task.

After all, during their time together, Guo Mi had left the two little bears with the impression of being an impatient bear with a very wicked sense of humor.

He wanted to wait for Guo Mi's patience to run out. But to his disappointment, Guo Mi sat there waiting without showing any sign of impatience.

Her gaze was a silent urging to Fishbone, making him feel immense pressure.

He looked at the fish jumping in the snow, but met the fish's emotionless, dull eyes. He couldn't help but take two steps back, his backside bumping into Guo Mi's front paw.

Guo Mi looked down at his pleading gaze but remained unmoved, only urging him silently.

Fishbone finally realized that although the bear in front of him was impatient, it seemed that once it made a decision, it would never go back on its word.

He had no choice but to refocus his attention on the fish in front of him.

The fish is struggling much less now than before, but unfortunately, the impact it had on the young bear cub was so strong that he overlooked these changes.

After a moment, Fishbone's hesitant gaze finally calmed down, and his eyes suddenly flashed with a do-or-die determination as he charged towards the fish!
The little bear, without any skill, simply lay on the fish, trying to pin it down with its body.

Then it bit down hard on the fish's back, its sharp little teeth piercing the fish scales!
The fish, which had just begun to struggle and was gradually losing strength, was forced by the pain to violently thrash its body again, trying to save itself from the predicament once more.

However, no matter how violently it shook, the little bear did not let go, and its teeth, which were deeply embedded in the fish flesh, tightened even more!
The bear and the fish remained locked in this stalemate for a long time, until the fish gradually lost its life due to dehydration and wounds.

Fishbone waited until the fish in his mouth stopped moving before tentatively letting go. After confirming that the fish was dead, he was overjoyed and subconsciously looked at Guo Mi, hoping to get praise.

But he soon noticed that his sister seemed to have finished her task long ago, and had even been sitting next to Guo Mi and watching him for a long time!

After its first attempt to bite the head failed, the salmon did not rush into a second attack, but quickly came up with another method.

Unable to stun the fish with her claws as easily as Guo Mi, she simply pressed the fish down again and buried it in the snow.

Although the mucus on the fish's body is kept moist by the snow, it can easily freeze and lose its stickiness if the contact time is too long.

Without that slippery, self-protective texture, it would be difficult to escape from her claws.

The salmon took the opportunity to bite off the fish head.

Compared to salmon, fishbone spent a lot of time seeking help and making a decision, and in the end, it just chose to wait it out with the fish, without any skill involved.

Now, Fishbone no longer had any desire for praise; he only felt embarrassed and ashamed.

Guo Mi tilted her head and looked at him, then suddenly lowered her head and licked the forehead of the dejected little furball in front of her, saying in a teasing tone:
"Fishbone is much braver than before today. He's no longer the little bear hiding behind his sister."

Fishbone became even more shy after hearing her words, but the heaviness in his heart was swept away with those words.

He looked up and met Guo Mi's smiling eyes. When he turned his head, his sister was also looking at him with a smile. He immediately lowered his head, hugged Guo Mi's front paws tightly, and buried his head in her thick, full fur.

Guo Mi lowered her head again, rubbing her forehead against the salmon's face:
"Salmon are smart too. You're already a qualified 'little bear hunter.' Next time, you can learn to catch fish with me."

Instead of trying to smooth things over, she told the two little bears that they were both equally wonderful.

In fact, they are different independent individuals, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, different personalities, and potentially very different lifestyles in the future. There is no need to restrict them with the same requirements.

However, the two little bears must also learn to face their own shortcomings.

Of course, there's no need to use harsh and sarcastic words to forcefully suppress them.

The little polar bear living in the Arctic will one day become the ruler of the snowfield. At the very least, it should maintain a proud and confident heart to face the wind, snow and dangers of the North.

As night fell, just like yesterday, the bright moon hung high in the sky, and the black curtain that shrouded the world was dotted with stars.

Guo Mi, accompanied by two bear cubs, one of which had a fish in its mouth, walked briskly back to the cave.

Just thinking about the warm and comfortable hole I dug this morning, where I can not only enjoy delicious fish but also get a good night's sleep, washes away a lot of the fatigue from a long day.

Thinking of this, Guo Mi quickened her pace with the two bear cubs.

As they approached the cave entrance, they faintly heard heavy breathing. Their light steps suddenly stopped, and Guo Mi blocked the two bear cubs behind her, looking warily towards the cave entrance.
