Chapter 169 The Sudden Appearance of the Male Bear

Chapter 169 The Sudden Appearance of the Male Bear

The little bear clumsily tore open the seal's thick skin and ate the rare food in big mouthfuls. He swallowed the soft fat and felt so comfortable that his eyes even squinted.

Guo Mi didn't go to eat right away. Instead, she went to the ice cave where the seal had just been trapped and repaired the entrance that had been slightly damaged by the seal's struggle.

The salmon stopped tearing at the seal meat and asked her curiously:

"Guo Mi, how did you know the seal would go into this hole?"

Fishbone stopped eating and looked at Guo Mi with shining eyes; he was also very curious.

Guo Mi smiled:
"Actually, not necessarily."

She explained slowly:

"I just noticed that although these seals are very alert, they actually climb onto the ice to breathe and rest. When they sense a bear coming, their first thought is to escape, and they can hardly think of anything else."

“I’ll make a hole here and run from the opposite direction of the hole. When they see me, their first instinct will be to keep their distance. When they see a hole, they won’t think much and will just crawl in. Once they’re in, they won’t be able to come out for a while.”

At this point, seeing the little bear's eager expression, Guo Mi still poured cold water on his enthusiasm:
"But I can't guarantee that the seals will choose the ice hole I dug, so there's only a 50% chance of success."

A 50% success rate may seem low, but for Guo Mi, it was the maximum possibility she could realistically hope for.

If she hunts using the methods of polar bears, she probably won't even have a 5% success rate. If she goes into the water, she'll likely have to worry about her life before even starting the hunt.

Thinking of this, Guo Mi couldn't help but sigh.

The little bear, however, was much more optimistic, happily nuzzling against her from both sides and cheering excitedly:
"Guo Mi, you're the best!"

"That's right!"

The little bear's continuous praise swept away much of Guo Mi's regret, and she even felt less hungry. With her chin held high and ears tilted back, she happily accepted the little bear's flattery.

Seeing that she enjoyed listening, the little bear forgot about eating and kept talking non-stop, praising her endlessly.

The fishbone hopped around Guo Mi twice, then suddenly stopped and hesitated, saying:

"So, does that mean we can't eat seal here anymore?"

Guo Mi lowered her head and looked at him with considerable surprise.

The salmon suddenly cried out in alarm:
"Yes! We can't stop here!"

She sniffed the air, then turned to look at Guo Mi:

"The smell of blood here is too strong. If the seals smell it again, they probably won't come to rest through this ventilation hole!"

She looked around, perplexed.

"There's no soil here to cover the prey. I wonder if it will attract other bears?"

Having learned from their previous experience down the rabbit hole, the little bears have learned from their mistakes and will no longer be blinded by temporary success. They have learned to think more deeply about things.

Guo Mi was filled with relief and listened to the little bear's words:

"Then let's drag the seal further away and clean up the bloodstains here."

They removed the seal from the burrow and then licked away the remaining blood.

Guo Mi was afraid of the cold, so the little bear volunteered. The two little guys lay on the spot and licked away the bits of flesh and blood bit by bit, leaving not a trace.

The salmon lay on the ice and sniffed around, looking somewhat dissatisfied.

"It still has a flavor."

Guo Mi comforted her:
"The smell will probably dissipate in a while, and we can look for other holes." The little guy said regretfully.

"It can only be this way."

However, they quickly became excited, as they could finally enjoy the delicious seal meat.

Guo Mi helped the little bear tear apart the tough flesh, leaving behind the abundant fat.

The little bear hurriedly covered the meat it hadn't had time to eat with snow.

Even so, before even half of the fresh meat had been consumed, it had already attracted covetous eyes.

—A male bear, and a very familiar one at that.

It was missing an ear, had a small pupil, and a blood mole on the white of its eye.

It was none other than the male bear that fought Caesar that day!
He followed the scent and stopped the moment he saw Guo Mi. His rather strange eyes stared at her, but he didn't rush over immediately.

Guo Mi had already assumed a fighting stance, blocking the bear cub's way and letting out a short roar at the male bear.

She was very serious this time!
This bear fought with Caesar; it was about the same size as Caesar and seemed to have an equally tyrannical personality.

This male bear showed no intention of backing down when facing Caesar at first, and Guo Mi did not believe that he would choose to avoid the fight because of the female bear's strength.

But food was hard to come by. She and the bear had been hungry for so long, and if they abandoned this food, they didn't know when they would find their next prey.

Guo Mi had no intention of giving up on this prey, so she had no choice but to fight back!

Strangely, the male bear did not rush up immediately, nor did it leave. Instead, it stood still and watched, occasionally letting out a few calls. It did not seem like a response to Guo Mi's demonstration, but rather a perfunctory cooperation.

After a while, the male bear suddenly stopped roaring and looked straight behind Guo Mi.

At the same time, another strong scent, unique to male bears, wafted into Guo Mi's nose. She turned around abruptly and saw another male bear approaching from a different direction.

The situation took a sharp turn for the worse. If it were just one male bear, Guo Mi would still have the strength to fight back, but if it were two, she would have to consider the safety of the cub and herself.

Forced by circumstances, Guo Mi quickly changed her strategy. She had no choice but to give up the food she was about to eat and prioritize leaving with the bear cub.

The male bear that appeared later clearly didn't have much patience. After realizing that it was a female bear with cubs, besides being surprised by Guo Mi's strange appearance, he felt contempt.

Without the slightest hesitation, he quickly stepped towards Guo Mi, constantly making shooing noises.

Finally, he simply shouted:

"Go away!"

Guo Mi took two steps back, glancing out of the corner of her eye at the male bear with the missing ear, only to find that it had somehow moved further away and sat down, looking at them with a relaxed and leisurely expression.

Most importantly, there seemed to be a look of schadenfreude in those eyes.

However, this look didn't seem to be directed at Guo Mi, but rather at the male bear opposite them.

Guo Mi was stunned for a moment, then gloated, "To the male bear?"

But she didn't have time to think about all that; the provocative male bear had already rushed up to them and began rudely driving away the cubs.

"You little brat, get the hell away from me!"

Ultimately, he had no patience for these bear cubs. Seeing them still lingering in front of their prey, he felt a surge of murderous intent.

Guo Mi saw the murderous intent in his eyes and her heart tightened. She raised her paw and slashed at him!
