Chapter 213 Could Deng Sui also be a time traveler?

"What's wrong with douzhi?" Deng Sui didn't understand why Su Jiahe was looking at him like that.

"I heard Grandpa Wang say that douzhi (fermented mung bean juice) is particularly unpalatable, so let's not order it," Yingying quickly advised Deng Sui.

"Isn't douzhi (fermented mung bean juice) made from soybeans? It should taste pretty good, so why do you say it tastes bad?" Deng Sui asked in confusion.

"Who says douzhi (fermented mung bean juice) is bad? I love it! Pair it with a few fried dough rings, and it's absolutely authentic," an old man at the next table retorted after overhearing their conversation.

"That man drank it so enthusiastically, it didn't seem like it tasted bad." Deng Sui became even more curious about the fermented mung bean juice.

"Alright, practice makes perfect. I'll order you some douzhi (fermented mung bean juice) with fried dough rings. But Sister Deng, whatever you drink later, don't blame us for not stopping you."

"How could I blame you?"

"Then I'll definitely order."

Su Jiahe placed the order, and soon the food for everyone was served. Yingying had noodles with soybean paste, Su Jiahe had shumai, and douzhi (fermented mung bean juice) and fried dough rings were placed in front of Deng Sui.

"This color looks very appealing."

The soy milk had a subtle greenish hue, which made Deng Sui automatically imagine the sweetness of soybeans.

"Okay, you can try it, but take a small bite first, so you won't be scared." Su Jiahe said, already moving her stool slightly to distance herself from Deng Sui, afraid that she might spit it on her.

Deng Sui picked up a spoon, scooped up a little soy milk, and gently sipped it into her mouth.

"Sister Deng, how are you feeling?" Su Jiahe asked Deng Sui anxiously.

Deng Sui didn't speak, paused for a few seconds, then gritted her teeth and swallowed the soy milk in her mouth.

"Uh... this taste is really... peculiar."

"Sister Deng, is douzhi (fermented mung bean juice) as unpleasant as Grandpa Wang said?" Yingying asked, tilting her little head.

"Well, I couldn't taste any beans. I don't know what they put in it." Deng Sui looked at the remaining large bowl of soy milk and vaguely regretted not listening to advice earlier.

"Sister, your mouth must taste bad right now. Have some noodles with soybean paste to cleanse it up. This sauce is quite fragrant." Yingying considerately picked up a piece of noodles with her chopsticks and fed it to Deng Sui.

"Never mind, let the waiter take the soy milk away. I'll order you some other good food."

Deng Sui picked up the menu again and flipped through it, only to be drawn to another dish.

"Hey, what's this fried liver? Have you guys heard of it?"

"No, no, no, we won't eat that. Let me recommend something else to you."

Su Jiahe quickly stopped Deng Sui, and this time Deng Sui obediently listened to her advice and ordered a bowl of noodles with a bowl of baked flatbread.

The group stayed overnight and arrived at the entrance of the Xia State Museum early the next morning to queue up.

"Sister Su, why did we come here as our first stop?" Yingying asked.

"Sister Deng came from two thousand years ago, so we can learn about the history between them through the Xia State Museum."

"But I heard the museum is very big, we won't be able to see it all in one day."

“It’s okay, I made an appointment for two days,” Su Jiahe said.

“Sister Su is so thoughtful. I also want to know what has happened in the Xia Kingdom over the past two thousand years.”

As soon as the museum opened, the group went inside. To save time, they started their visit directly from the Han Dynasty section. Looking at the familiar artifacts, bearing the marks of time, lying quietly in the glass display cases, Deng Sui couldn't help but sigh.

Time flies, like a white horse galloping past a crack in the wall.

At the same time, Deng Sui also learned about the history after the Han Dynasty. When she learned of the fall of the Eastern Han Dynasty, she was not too surprised or sad. Instead, she was very calm.

“I have been studying history books since I was a child, and I know that no matter how prosperous a dynasty was, whether it was the Shang or Zhou or the Qin, it would eventually be reduced to a few strokes in the history books. As long as I work hard and govern well during my reign, I will have done my duty to the people and to the Han Dynasty.”

After hearing what Deng Sui had said, Su Jiahe couldn't help but admire her open-mindedness and insight.

Over the next two days, the group embarked on a special forces-style tour, finally completing the section of the Huaxia Museum that dates back to the Han Dynasty. Deng Sui also gained a general understanding of what had happened over the past two thousand years.

"Rising from the ashes, the nation has been strengthened through adversity; truly, Heaven has blessed China!" Deng Sui exclaimed in final moments, gazing at the towering museum.

"Sister Deng, we still have a few days left. Where else would you like to go?" Su Jiahe asked as she drove.

"I'm not familiar with it, so you guys can recommend some."

"Sister Su, shall we take Sister Deng to the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, and the Temple of Heaven? I've read about these places in books; they're the most famous tourist attractions in the capital."

"What are these places for?" Deng Sui asked.

"They were all built during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Forbidden City is a palace, the Summer Palace is a place for nobles to play, and the Temple of Heaven is a place for sacrifices," Su Jiahe said.

"Oh, I see." Deng Sui didn't show much interest.

Su Jiahe understood Deng Sui's thoughts, after all, she had no concept of the history of the Ming and Qing dynasties, so there was no point in her going to see those historical sites.

In fact, Su Jiahe always takes into account tourists' interests, preferences, and acceptance levels when designing tour routes.

"By the way, Sister Deng, didn't you want to know what science and technology is? How about I take you to the Xia Country Science and Technology Museum?"

"There's such a place? Then please take me there, Sister Su."

"The science museum is great! There are lots of novel and fun things there." Yingying clapped her hands in agreement.

On the fourth day of the trip, the group visited the Science and Technology Museum. The museum is very large and divided into several sections. The first section introduces the history of China's scientific and technological development.

On the display board introducing the seismograph, Deng Sui suddenly saw Zhang Heng's name.

"Even after two thousand years, he is still known to the world. It seems that Zhang Heng is indeed a remarkable person," Deng Sui nodded and said.

"Sister Deng, do you know Zhang Heng?" Su Jiahe didn't know before that Zhang Heng and Deng Sui lived in the same period.

“I’ve heard of him; he’s a very learned man, and I’m considering hiring him.”

Not far away was an introduction to papermaking, and there Deng Sui saw Cai Lun's name again.

"That's wonderful, people still remember Cai Qing."

“Cai Lun’s invention of papermaking can be said to have changed the world, and people certainly remember it,” Su Jiahe said. “Sister Deng, do you still know Cai Lun?”

"Of course I know him. He's in the palace now. Last year, he reported the papermaking technique to the court, and I gave him a lot of rewards."

"Sister Deng, the era you lived in was truly a gathering of great figures," Su Jiahe exclaimed. "It seems you value technological development and are very good at appointing talent."

"Yes, I have always believed that if we want the country to have good weather and abundant harvests, and the people to live in peace and prosperity, it is not enough to just study the Four Books and Five Classics. We need to promote talents from all walks of life."

"Sister Deng, it's so rare for you to think like this." Su Jiahe couldn't help but wonder if Deng Sui was also a time traveler, to have such advanced ideas.
