Full-time: The Strongest Sniper
Chapter 785 Disgusting Fighting Style
Happy certainly didn't want their current huge advantage to make everyone complacent, but given how much of a lead they had already built, it was crucial for newcomers like Luo Ji to experience the atmosphere and rhythm of a match. Xiao Nai and Ye Xiu both felt this was extremely important, as rote training alone offered limited improvement and would ultimately lead to nervousness and rushed performances on the field. While there were indeed players who had made a name for themselves, Luo Ji clearly didn't have that type of player in mind.
So, since they now have an 8.5-point advantage, Xiao Nai and Ye Xiu decided to let Luo Ji play a match. The result didn't matter, since Chen Guo had already wasted a match and didn't have much of a future. At least Luo Ji was still a formal member of their Happy team.
Of course, Chen Guo's spot was actually Luo Ji's in the previous match, but Luo Ji had something to do at school last week and couldn't participate, so Xiao Nai and Ye Xiu decided to fulfill Chen Guo's dream. Now that Luo Ji has time, Xiao Nai and Ye Xiu simply pulled him up.
Three, two, one...
The system, seemingly oblivious to the tension of Luo Ji of Happy and the elemental mage of Wuji, continued its relentless countdown. Luo Ji, of course, wouldn't choose an open map like the arena, given his past map-utilization skills were actually among the best in Happy, second only to Mo Fan, who had a specialized understanding of maps due to his scavenging habits.
Given Luo Ji's current tense state, it's hard to say how effectively he can utilize the map. The match has just begun, and Luo Ji has already started summoning various summoned beasts. His usually skillful controls are now somewhat clumsy due to his close-combat abilities. The summoned beasts, without the summoner's command, are simply moving around him spontaneously, without any particular pattern.
Summoning a large horde of summoned creatures right from the start is considered amateurish by many. Summoning skills have long cooldowns, and while a swarm of summoned creatures charging in might look spectacular, professional players in the arena have AI comparable to dungeon mobs, making them easy targets for a single combo. Taking out too many at once leaves the summoner without other offensive options for a period.
So when the elemental mage of Wuji ran around the corner, he saw Luo Ji leading a large group of monsters charging towards him. Although this scene looked spectacular, it was very unscientific.
Could the other side have set a trap?
After all, this was a life-or-death battle for the team, so the elemental mage did not slack off at all, but instead played very carefully.
As it turned out, his caution was useful, because this was precisely the situation where Ye Xiu combined Xiao Nai's playing style with logic and habits to create a completely new and unique playing style.
The strategy revolves around the Elf King and Death Knight as the main characters, with four beasts as support, and summoning other elemental summons based on the battle conditions.
The Spirit Cat and the Death Knight are another class: one boasts high health, and the other possesses various ranged attacks. These three also have the highest AI level, exhibiting attack prowess and evasion capabilities comparable to mini-bosses.
They launched the frontal attack alongside Luo Ji's character, while the other small sprites, mid-level sprites, little dragons, ice wolves, thunder eagles, and black cats attacked casually from the sidelines without being controlled. After all, Luo Ji couldn't control too many summoned beasts. Although these summoned beasts weren't as high-level as the previous two, they essentially served as underlings, providing cover while you fought the boss.
Anyone who's played Soulslike games knows how annoying these minions are when fighting a boss. You can't kill them instantly, and while you're attacking them, the boss's attacks are already upon you. And while you're dealing with the boss, these minions keep bombarding you with ranged attacks, making it difficult to maintain your rhythm even if you can dodge them. This is the core idea behind this strategy, except now the boss is replaced by a player.
In this strategy, Luo Ji actually only needs to control two summoned beasts: the Elf King and the Death Knight. Obviously, Luo Ji can handle just two. As for the other summoned beasts, Luo Ji only marked the Elemental Mage of Wuji and concentrated the aggro of the other summoned beasts on him before ignoring them.
He immediately started with a powerful Dragon's Roar and charged towards the Elemental Mage together with the Death Knight.
A summoner using the Dragon's Fury technique looks incredibly bizarre. But there's nothing that can be done about it. Since Luo Ji doesn't control the support summons, he naturally wants to minimize the attacks and attrition the enemy can inflict on them. And what could be more effective than a direct, head-on attack to restrain them?
This is also the only difficulty this strategy presents for Luo Ji: it demands a high level of skill from the player who plays Luo Ji as the boss. However, Luo Ji's skills are clearly not at a level that can threaten professional players; otherwise, he wouldn't be unable to dominate even in the arena of online games. Currently, Luo Ji's character skills are at best comparable to those of a relatively skilled player in an online game.
Such maneuvering was hardly impressive to Wuji's elemental mage. Despite facing charges from both Luo Ji and the Death Knight simultaneously, he leaped back to dodge Luo Ji's attack, then turned and unleashed a spell that interrupted the attack of the summoned beast that was approaching him. The other half of his attack was also underestimated and dodged, with Luo Ji even unleashing a fireball at him.
Although Luo Ji's initial offensive surprised everyone, after the initial clash, it became clear that Luo Ji couldn't keep up with his opponent's pace. As the battle progressed, the elemental mage from Wuji discovered that Luo Ji's strength wasn't particularly high; rather, his summoned beasts were quite annoying. Most importantly, Luo Ji seemed almost unrestricted by summons, unleashing a barrage of low-level elemental mage, magic scholar, and battle mage skills. They kept him occupied, and because of the sheer number of Luo Ji's summoned beasts, many of their attacks were timed to coincide with the gaps in his attacks, making it quite frustrating.
Unfortunately, the difference in strength between Luo Ji and his opponent was obvious. After several attempts to kite Luo Ji, his summoned beasts were quickly eliminated by Wuji's elemental mage using ranged skills. In the end, Luo Ji, along with the Death Knight and the Elf King, directly confronted Luo Ji head-on and decisively defeated him.
Finally, even the elemental mage of Wuji realized that although the opponent's fighting style was very difficult to deal with, their strength was really not that great.
He could see it, and so could the other Wuji players, which eased the atmosphere within the Wuji team considerably. After all, if they won the two points in the match, he could continue with the subsequent matches. However, if they could win the subsequent arena matches and team matches, they would have a score of 8.5 against their opponents, which would require an additional match.
But regardless, at least now they have a chance of success! (End of Chapter)
