Chapter 1: The Sutra of the Infinite Merits of Saints and Sages

Chapter 1: The Sutra of the Infinite Merits of Saints and Sages

In August, the weather is not that hot anymore.

Xu Shun followed his master on the road to Jianmen.

He was carrying a package on his back, looking helplessly at his master who was swaggering in front of him.

From traveling to this world to becoming Lan Daoist's apprentice by chance a few days ago, Xu Shun has always felt that he is quite lucky.

Before becoming his disciple, he felt that Taoist Lan was unkempt and untidy, which was the demeanor of a master!
After becoming his disciple, he felt that there was something wrong with Master Lan!
Two steps in front of him, Lan Daoren was shirtless, revealing his dark brown upper body.

The fat on his upper body swayed as Lan Daoren walked.

Those two pieces of flesh on the chest are damn bigger than those of a woman!

The fat on his belly is bigger than the beer belly Xu Shun had before he traveled through time!
As for appearance, it is even more "ordinary".

Flat nose, small eyes, and a small mustache.

She even had two buns on her head.

The so-called double bun is to divide the hair into two equal parts, then comb it into a bun and place it on both sides of the top of the head.

Mostly used for young girls and boys!

So a fat man weighing two or three hundred pounds with two buns on his head walked swaggeringly on the road.

Those who know him think he is an exhibitionist, and those who don’t think he is a psychopath!
And this fat man is Xu Shun’s master, Lan Dao Ren.

Xu Shun sighed. Why are other people’s masters all beautiful women with long legs, but his master looks like this?

If he hadn't seen with his own eyes how Lan Daoist wielded the sword and killed the demon in the well, Xu Shun would have thought that he must be blind to take such a person as his master.

A fat man without magic power is an ugly guy, and a fat man with magic power is a master!

The sword light was as cold as moonlight and as fast as thunderbolt, which made Xu Shun feel envious.

Now, the sword is on his back.

"Master, can you put on your clothes?" Xu Shun couldn't help but say.

"No, it's cool this way!" Lan Dao said without even turning his head.

"But, Master, aren't you immune to cold and heat?" Xu Shun said.

"That's right!" With Lan Dao's cultivation, he was indeed immune to cold and heat, so he said as a matter of course: "But I feel comfortable."

Yes, Lan Daoren did this simply because the wind blowing on his belly felt good and made him feel comfortable.

"Would you like to consider others?" Xu Shun said again.

Along the way, many people pointed fingers at them, and even many young ladies secretly laughed at Master Lan.

"Disciple, why should your master care about others?" Taoist Lan said, shaking his bare arms.

"I cultivate immortality as a teacher, not for others to see."

"To cultivate immortality, one must be free!"

"If you change yourself just to be considerate of others, then what's the point of cultivating immortality? It's better to learn some Feng Shui and recite some scriptures, and live a rich and prosperous life!"

Xu Shun understood the reprimand from Master Lan.

Cultivate immortality, break free from worldly shackles, and pursue the freedom to enter and exit the universe.

If you change because of other people's comments.

Doesn't that mean... you become the object of other people's verbal manipulation?
Xu Shun felt that it made sense, but it also seemed strange.

Hiss... Master, is this really not a story you made up to fool me?
It’s not that Xu Shun is suspicious, but the shirtless look of Lan Daoren is not convincing.

"Master... wait for me!" Xu Shun thought for a moment, and then he saw Master Lan striding forward.

He hurried to catch up.

Walking on the mountain road for a long time was tantamount to torture for Xu Shun, who was like a fat otaku before the time travel.

But his current body is that of a teenager of sixteen or seventeen with excellent physical fitness, which is completely different from the body of him in his thirties before he traveled through time.

With the mantras taught by Taoist Lan, walking dozens of kilometers a day is as easy as eating and drinking.

Lan Daoren didn't say where they were going, and Xu Shun didn't ask either.

When it got dark, Lan Daoist found a place to set up camp. He could travel overnight, but Xu Shun couldn't.

Anyway, he is now following his own will, and it doesn't matter where he goes.

When he meets a good disciple, he will accept him as he pleases, without any restrictions or worries.

Taoist Lan chose a place sheltered from the wind and asked Xu Shun to collect some branches. Then he pointed his finger and flames started from the pile of branches.

The flames were not big, but the smoke was very thick.

"It's too damp." Taoist Lan frowned and pointed it again with his hand, and the flame rose up.

How come my apprentice, besides asking a bunch of strange questions and doing a lot of trivial things every day, can't even pick up firewood?

"I taught you the Qinghua Sutra the day before yesterday. Did you do your homework on time?" asked Taoist Lan.

Xu Shun immediately said, "I have already memorized it. I even felt the energy yesterday!" As he said that, he recited the Qinghua Sutra.

The Qinghua Sutra consists of tens of thousands of words, which are very difficult to understand. It took Taoist Lan a long time to memorize it.

Lan Daoist was very satisfied that his disciple could memorize it so quickly and even had a sense of Qi. He said, "I will continue to explain the Qinghua Sutra to you today!"

Of course, one needs to cooperate with the master's explanation to practice the true scriptures. If one can practice just by knowing the content of the true scriptures...

That would be underestimating the Qinghua Sect, which is the true legacy of the immortal world.

As for just practicing blindly based on the scriptures, that is another story.

After teaching for an hour, Lan Daoren looked at the sky and said, "That's all for today."

“Thank you, Master, for teaching me the Dharma!” Xu Shun said respectfully.

It was after listening to Master Lan’s explanation that Xu Shun finally understood the Qinghua Sutra.

Only then could Xu Shun embark on the path of cultivating immortals.

"Today, your master will teach you another Sutra on 'The Infinite Merits and Blessings of Saints and Sages for Saving People'!" Taoist Lan said again.

“I beg Master to teach me the Dharma.” Xu Shun said.

"I say a sentence and you recite it. Grandmaster Qinghua, you are so compassionate..." Taoist Lan began to speak.

Xu Shun followed along and recited for a while, then felt very strange.

This "Sutra on the Infinite Merits of Saints and Sages for Saving People" is completely different from the obscure "Qinghua Sutra".

"The Sutra of the Infinite Merits of Saints and Sages for Saving People" is simple and easy to understand. The whole article is just flattery, praising the Qinghua Patriarch as the most compassionate person in the world who saves people from danger.

Xu Shun followed Taoist Lan and recited it three times, and he had almost memorized it.

Xu Shun now has a clear mind and amazing memory, which is completely different from the fat otaku he was before he traveled through time.

"Um... Master, I have a question. I don't know if I should ask it or not?" Xu Shun said.

"Ask. Do you have any strange questions that you haven't asked yet?" Taoist Lan rolled his eyes at Xu Shun.

During the few days they spent together, Xu Shun's strange questions popped up one after another, and Lan Dao Ren was almost unable to cope with them.

Fortunately, Lan Daoren himself is a free and lawless person. If he were a more conservative person, he would probably scold Xu Shun.

"Master, this... 'The Sutra of the Infinite Merits of Saints and Sages for Saving People' seems to be impossible to practice, right?" Xu Shun asked.

"Of course you can't practice it. This is a song praising the ancestors." Lan Dao said as a matter of course.

"Then what's the use of this?" Xu Shun asked again.

"It will be very useful! When you meet the master one day, he may ask you: Grand disciple, do you recite the Sutra of Infinite Merits and Blessings for Saving People every day?"

"What do you mean?" Lan Dao said, "Of course you want to say it every day!"

“When the time comes to pay respect to the ancestor, it will be embarrassing if you can’t even sing the ‘Sūtra of Infinite Merits and Blessings for Saving People’ that praises the ancestor.”

"As a rookie like you, I wonder if you will ever have the chance to meet the Grandmaster. I'm afraid it won't be long before I ascend to the immortal world and meet the Grandmaster!"

Xu Shun quickly discovered the two blind spots and said, "Is our ancestor still alive?"

"Master, are you going to ascend?"

A new story begins, a simple story of a modern person traveling through time to cultivate immortality.
