Chapter 71 Amitabha Buddha responds to the calamity with his body, Tathagata Buddha talks about the end of the Dharma
The Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, Mount Sumeru, and the Great Amitabha Temple.

This is the dojo of Amitabha Buddha. Amitabha Buddha, also known as the "Guiding Buddha", "Infinite Light Buddha" and "Infinite Life Buddha", is the founder of the Western Paradise.

On the Kama Cliff at the back mountain of the Great Amitabha Temple, Amitabha Buddha sits cross-legged on a lotus platform. The Buddha's light shines all over his body, and a round light behind his head illuminates the universe.

Manjusri, Samantabhadra, Cundi, Akasagarbha Bodhisattvas, as well as the Vajra Kings and disciples were all sitting below, and at this time Cundi Bodhisattva was reporting to Amitabha Buddha that he was imprisoned by Mara.

This is because the Tathagata Buddha once issued a decree that the affairs of the religion would be presided over by each Buddha for a hundred years. During these hundred years, Amitabha Buddha was in charge of the religious affairs, so all the Bodhisattvas came to the Amitabha Temple to pay homage to him.

“Buddha, if it weren’t for the rescue of Lord Lingtai, I would have fallen into the clutches of the demon.” Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva said finally.

After listening to the story of Cundi Bodhisattva, all the Bodhisattvas, Vidyarajas, and disciples looked at him with awe. The Vajra Yaksha Vidyaraja said in astonishment, "The Lord of Lingtai Mansion is far away in Lingtai Mountain. How can he save you, fellow Taoist?"

Guanyin Bodhisattva said: "He hid his tracks and followed the incarnation of Mara. He entered the Tianren Temple and captured Mara first, and then rescued me from the magic power."

Wu Neng Sheng Ming Wang was surprised and asked: "This Lingtai Mansion Lord has such a powerful magical power?"

The Peacock Bodhisattva said at this time: "I have met the Lord of Lingtai Mansion once. He is indeed very powerful. However, it is surprising that he can subdue the incarnation of Mara so easily. It seems that I have underestimated him."

At this point, the Peacock King Bodhisattva asked Amitabha Buddha: "Buddha, Mara has descended into the world and the monks are suffering. How should we resolve the calamity between Buddha and demon?"

Amitabha said: "Now Mara's 'residence in the world' has not yet settled, the Buddha's calamity has just begun, and there is no number of calamities to respond to or eliminate."

As soon as Amitabha finished speaking, the Buddha light behind his head suddenly dimmed, and everyone looked up in a hurry.

The next moment, all the Bodhisattvas and disciples changed color, because a purple-black demonic shadow appeared in the Buddha light above Amitabha Buddha's head.

Seeing this demonic figure, the face of Zhunti Bodhisattva changed drastically, and he stood up and said in surprise: "Mara!"

The expressions of the Bodhisattvas changed drastically. They stood up and looked at Mara who appeared in the Buddha's light above Amitabha's head.

Amitabha, on the other hand, looked calm. He just raised his hand and said to the Bodhisattvas, "Don't panic."

When the Bodhisattvas heard this, they no longer approached Amitabha Buddha, but stood where they were and looked at Mara in the Buddha's light.

Immediately, Amitabha raised his head and looked into the Buddha's light. The next moment, the demon in the Buddha's light grew bigger and bigger from far away.

At the same time, the purple-black demonic light quickly swallowed up the Buddha light above Amitabha's head, and soon the Buddha light on Amitabha's body turned into purple-black demonic light, which looked extremely eerie and terrifying.

"World Honored One!" The Bodhisattvas hurriedly called out to Amitabha Buddha.

But Amitabha had a smile on his face. He just raised his hand and pointed, and the magic light on his body immediately left his body and fell to the ground.

When the magic light fell to the ground, the figure of Moluo immediately appeared, and those magic lights also appeared on Moluo's body.

As for Amitabha, the Buddha's light on his body and the halo behind his head had disappeared. There was no sacredness on his body anymore. He looked like an ordinary monk.

"How did you find me? Welcoming Buddha." As soon as Mara appeared, he immediately asked Amitabha Buddha.

Amitabha smiled and said, "Mara, from the moment you hid your Buddha heart, I had already discovered you."

"This is impossible." Moro said sternly.

Amitabha Buddha smiled and said, "How is it impossible? All demons arise from the mind. The Buddha's mind is subtle. I know the good and evil of a single thought."

Hearing this, Manjusri Bodhisattva in the back immediately said: "Yes, when the Buddha has evil thoughts, demons will naturally appear."

When the Bodhisattvas heard this, they all suddenly understood. They were no longer worried at all, but just watched quietly from the side.

"Haha." Mara sneered and looked at Amitabha Buddha and said, "So what if you found out? Your Buddhist teachings have been broken by me. Where is your Buddha light? It's gone! You are just an ordinary monk now, not worthy of being the Guide Buddha anymore."

Upon hearing this, Amitabha smiled calmly and said, "Mara, Buddha is enlightenment, not power. Buddha can have power, but having power alone cannot make one a Buddha."

Having said this, Amitabha suddenly sat down cross-legged, then clasped his hands together and slowly closed his eyes.

Immediately afterwards, Amitabha Buddha's Dharma body began to dry up and decay rapidly. In just a moment, it turned into a mummy, and then the flesh and skin rotted and turned into white bones.

In the end, the bones rot and turn into a pile of ashes.

When the Bodhisattvas saw this, they bowed their heads, put their hands together and chanted, "Namo Amitabha."

When he saw the Buddha Amitabha’s true body sitting in meditation, Mara laughed loudly, and demonic light shone from his body, and demonic flames surged to the sky.

He looked at the Bodhisattvas who were chanting the Buddha's name, and then he rising up with demonic power, and then rushed straight towards the Bodhisattvas with raging demonic flames.

At this time, the demonic energy increased greatly and the demonic power was overwhelming. Facing this demonic power, the Bodhisattvas were like ants facing a flood.

However, when Mara pounced in front of the Bodhisattvas, thousands of Buddha lights suddenly lit up from the Bodhisattvas' bodies and formed a Buddha light barrier. With a "boom", the entire Amitabha Temple trembled slightly.

Afterwards, Moluo was directly repelled by the Buddha's light barrier, and the tremendous demonic power on his body was also reduced by 30% by the Buddha's light.

Mara's face darkened as he stood still. However, the Bodhisattvas at this time had no external thoughts and just stood there chanting "Namo Amitabha" over and over again.

After a moment, the entire Mount Sumeru suddenly trembled slightly. After an unknown amount of time, infinite merits from all directions gathered on the Kama Cliff, illuminating the entire Mount Sumeru.

Then, those countless merits slowly gathered into a 'Nine-Colored Merit Golden Wheel', and from the pile of ashes where Amitabha Buddha passed away, a golden Buddha bone relic suddenly flew out. The Buddha bone relic slowly flew into the Nine-Colored Merit Golden Wheel and hung in the center of the Nine-Colored Merit Golden Wheel.

The next moment, the original spirit of Amitabha Buddha slowly appeared in the center of the golden wheel of merit. With a compassionate face, he put his hands together and said, "Mara has descended into the world, the Buddha and the devil have been calamities, the monks have suffered, and the living beings are in turmoil. I will now use my 'Infinite Life Body' to meet the calamity and pass away, eliminating the Buddha and the devil's calamity, and returning the infinite life blessings to the monks and living beings in the three realms."

After saying this, Amitabha Buddha’s original spirit slowly flew into the Buddha bone relic, and the nine-colored golden wheel of merit also quickly shrank, and finally disappeared into the Buddha bone relic.

Then the Buddha's bone relic instantly flew out of Mount Sumeru and into the mortal world. The Buddha passed away and the monks were filled with grief.

After Amitabha Buddha's death, his Buddha bone relics did not enter the underworld, nor did they go through the six realms of reincarnation. Instead, they fell directly into the mortal world, waiting for the opportunity to be reborn as a reincarnated child.

As Amitabha Buddha passed away in his 'body of infinite life', the Mara incarnation at Kama Cliff let out an unwilling roar and then disappeared in an instant.

At the same time, all the incarnations of Demon in the four continents and three realms were wiped out by the tremendous power of vows at this moment.

As for those pregnant women who were pregnant with demon fetuses, the golden bodies corresponding to those demon fetuses were automatically shattered at this time, the demonic energy of the demon fetuses dissipated, and they turned into normal fetuses. Those pregnant women even received the blessing of "infinite life" and increased their lifespan.

Not only that, even the mortals who died because their fortune and blessings were sucked away by these demon fetuses, their sins were eliminated, and their fortunes and longevity were also increased.

All living beings who died due to the calamity caused by Buddha and devil have been blessed, their sins in life have been eliminated, and they can be reincarnated directly, and they will be blessed and live long in the next life.

At the Mahamitra Temple, on the Kama Cliff, the Bodhisattvas opened their eyes and found that Amitabha had disappeared.

The Bodhisattvas looked solemn as they bowed in the direction where the Buddha's relics of Amitabha Buddha fell and said, "Amitabha, may the Buddha have mercy on us."

Amitabha Buddha passed away in response to the calamity with his "infinite life body", which means that Mara's resident form in the world has not yet settled in the present world, so the destiny is not clear and there is no one to respond to the calamity and eliminate it.

In this case, Amitabha Buddha will become the one who eliminates the calamity by passing away in Nirvana himself.

As Amitabha Buddha passed away in response to the calamity, the will of heaven gradually became clear. The Bodhisattvas sensed the will of heaven and found that seven parts of the great calamity caused by Buddha and demon had been eliminated.

There are no incarnations of Demon or Demon fetuses in the Three Realms, but three parts of the calamity between Buddha and Demon remain unchanged and still exist within the destiny determined by heaven.

"Why are there still three parts of the Buddha and Demon calamity that have not been eliminated?" asked the Vajra King III.

However, he was met with silence. After an unknown amount of time, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva spoke up and said, "The remaining three parts of the Buddha-Devil Great Calamity that have not yet been eliminated are probably the Dharma form of Mara that has not yet settled."

At this time, waves of ethereal bell and chime sounds suddenly resounded throughout the Lingshan scenic area. When the Bodhisattvas heard the bell and chime sounds, they immediately said solemnly, "It is the divine bell and chime of the Great Leiyin Temple."

After saying this, all the Bodhisattvas immediately rode on auspicious clouds and flew towards the Great Leiyin Temple.

After a moment, a magnificent temple appeared in the eyes of the bodhisattvas. The Great Leiyin Temple: "The top touches the sky, and the roots are connected to Mount Sumeru. The auspicious mist fills India, and the rainbow light embraces the Buddha. The golden tiles are stacked with mandarin ducks, and the bright flower bricks are paved with agate. The temple is shining with rosy clouds, and the front of the hall is sprayed with purple flames. The pagoda is visible, and the Udumbara flower is fragrant. It is the place where the beauty of the earth is so different from the sky, and the day is long when the clouds are idle. If you don't stay in the world, all the ties will end, and the great Dharma Hall will not be damaged for eternity."

The Bodhisattvas entered the Great Leiyin Temple one after another and arrived at the treasure hall, where they saw that all the Buddhas were already in their seats. The Tathagata Buddha had a solemn appearance and sat high on a lotus platform.

Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva had also arrived here long ago, sitting on lotus thrones. Their eyes looked holy and pure, and full of compassion.

The Bodhisattvas met with the Tathagata Buddha, and then each flew onto the lotus platform and sat upright.

After all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas had taken their seats, Tathagata Buddha spoke: "The compassion of the Buddha Jie Yin was immense, and he passed away in response to the calamity. His reincarnated soul boy will be born in a hundred years. Because the Dharma image of Mara in the world has not yet appeared, this great calamity of Buddha and demon will also begin in a hundred years."

The bodhisattvas were shocked when they heard this. Later, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva asked, "May I ask my Buddha, did the Jieyin Buddha's death in the face of the calamity only delay the Buddha-demon calamity by a hundred years?"

The Tathagata Buddha nodded and said, "Yes, the Buddha-Demon Great Disaster is a Dharma disaster for our Buddhist sect, and it cannot be resisted or resolved by one person or one Buddha. But the Buddha Jieyin responded to the disaster with his own body, and also laid a seven-point foundation for the Buddha-Demon Great Disaster for our Buddhist sect a hundred years later."

The Bodhisattvas looked at each other in bewilderment. At this time, Tathagata Buddha looked at everyone and said, "Do you know where this great calamity of Buddha and demon came from?"

Manjusri Bodhisattva said: "The Buddha said that the Buddha demon is the 'Demon King Poxun'. His Dharma resides outside the world and is born with the Buddha. The Buddha-Demon Great Disaster is the result of the Devil King Poxun's incarnation coming to the world to destroy our Dharma."

The Tathagata Buddha nodded and said, "That's right, but you only know one side of the story, not the other."

Then, Tathagata Buddha slowly said: "Buddha and devil are one. Where there is Buddha, there is devil. One good thought is Buddha, and one evil thought is devil. Since the establishment of my Buddhist sect, hundreds of millions of years have passed. In the beginning, Buddha and devil were weak, and the intensity of the Buddha and devil calamity was not even as strong as the calamity of a cultivator himself. However, over the years, the Buddha and devil calamity has become stronger and stronger. Do you know why?"

Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva replied: "World Honored One, is it because the monks of our Buddhist sect cannot maintain the righteousness of the Dharma, so that the Buddha is eliminated and the demons are increased?"

The Tathagata Buddha nodded approvingly and said, "That's right. It is precisely because I have been teaching Buddhism for so long and have preached the Dharma countless times, but there are fewer and fewer people who can keep the precepts and have a righteous mind. Not to mention the monks in the mortal world, even the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas often have mortal minds. As a result, the devil's way will naturally increase, and the Buddha's way will naturally decrease."

"When the mind arises, all kinds of demons arise; when the mind ceases, all kinds of demons cease."

"The most important thing about the righteous Dharma in the world is to be single-minded. Why does our Buddhist sect have the 'Ending Dharma Great Catastrophe'? It is because the Buddha's heart gives rise to the devil. In the future, all of our disciples will have less Buddha's heart and more devil's heart. The Ending Dharma Great Catastrophe will naturally come." Tathagata Buddha said slowly.

When all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas heard this, their hearts sank. At this time, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva asked, "May I ask the Tathagata, since the great calamity of the Dharma Ending Age has not yet arrived, is there any way to change and resolve it?"

The Buddha smiled and said, "A tree can never grow straight naturally. There are always bends. Even if you can use external force to 'straighten' it, it is meaningless if it is straight on the outside but bent on the inside."

Avalokitesvara asked: "As the Buddha said, the great catastrophe of the Dharma Ending Age cannot be changed? Nor can it be stopped?"

The Tathagata Buddha shook his head and said, "Fate cannot be changed. In the great catastrophe of the last days of the Dharma, when demons are born, Buddhas will perish; when demons flourish, Buddhas will perish."

"However," Tathagata Buddha said, "before the destiny is determined, many variables will appear in the world. If our Buddhist sect can grasp these variables before the destiny arrives, we may have a glimmer of hope in the great catastrophe of the end of the law."

Upon hearing this, all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas immediately fell into deep thought.
