Chapter 8 Alpine Community Theatre

Chapter 8 Alpine Community Theatre
When the bus arrived in Park City, Hawke was already having a great conversation with Brand.

The two exchanged cell phone numbers, and Brand invited Hawke to stay at his house temporarily.

Park City is a famous ski resort in the United States.

Brand's parents work at a ski resort on the mountain and rarely go down the mountain during the peak tourist season.

Hawke couldn't resist this guy's enthusiasm and agreed.

The main reason was that he didn't want to stay in a hotel room that cost $50 a night for six people.

There is no need to think about star-rated hotels. Hawke made some phone calls in Salt Lake City. The cheapest hotel room was $455, and the cheapest motel was $285 a night.

Even so, it is still difficult to find a room.

Park City has only one main street, and various houses are built on the hillside in an orderly manner along the street.

The bus stopped in the middle of Main Street and Brand asked Hawke to get off.

The houses in this community are obviously older. Although the city is small, there are class differences.

After the bus drove away, Hawke looked across the main street, where there was a Great Salt Lake Cinema with many movie posters hanging at the entrance.

Brand put on his computer bag, looked over there, and said, "The Sundance Film Festival is essentially an independent film trade show. At this time of year, any theater in Park City will have a screening time of more than sixteen hours a day."

Hawke looked away: "Every independent filmmaker wants to create a miracle."

"This way." Brand led the way and entered the high mountain community on the side of the road. He introduced as he walked: "Park City is not very crowded. This is one of the largest communities. Although the conditions are average and the people are not rich, the relationship between neighbors is very good."

Hawke also observed that the community was built along a large gentle slope, each family had a small independent wooden house, and there were almost no ethnic minorities.

Two young men came over and greeted Brand from a distance: "You kid, you sneaked back to attend the film festival again?"

Brand said: "The troupe gathers every year during the film festival, and I can't miss it."

One of them, who was wearing a down jacket, said, "Our troupe has never produced any big stars, so we have to pay for everything at every party. We don't have a lot of money, so many people have complaints."

"Because no one is willing to pay for the sponsorship." Brand shrugged. "Without the support of big shots, if the gatherings are cancelled, the troupe will really fall apart."

"Captain Larson hasn't organized any activities in more than half a year." The man in the cotton hat looked at Hawke and asked, "Your friend?"

Brand quickly introduced: "This is Hawke Osment, a practitioner in the entertainment media industry, a friend I met in Salt Lake City." He also introduced the down jacket and cotton hat: "This is Damian, and this is Lewis."

Damian came over and bumped fists with Hawke: "We are unemployed people."

Hawke said seriously, "I was the same some time ago."

Damian and Lewis laughed.

Brand pointed to the hillside and said, "I'll take Hawke back first and we'll talk later."

Lewis said, “We’ll come find you later.”

Perhaps due to his personality, Brand is very popular in the community and people keep greeting him on the street.

Hawke followed him into the house, a not-too-big single-family house with three bedrooms.

Because no one has lived here for a long time, the furniture and beds are covered with dustproof cloth.

Hawke helped Brand clean up and asked, "Does your community theater group hold regular gatherings?"

"It's the biggest during the film festival every year." Brand asked in confusion, "Didn't I tell you on the way? Sorry, I forgot."

He said, "During the film festival, we all watched one or two movies together, and then had a self-help party to discuss the development of the troupe in the coming year. The expenses were shared by all. In the first few years, everyone was very excited and hoped that the troupe would produce a star, but the troupe did not even produce a professional actor. It was very disappointing."

Hawke was very interested in this kind of American community theater and asked, "Is there a lot of people in the theater?"

Brand said: "The troupe was founded at the 200th Sundance Film Festival. This year is the th. It has been more than ten years. There have been more than people who have joined the troupe. In recent years, fewer and fewer people have participated in the gatherings. Last year, there were less than people. No one wants to pay."

Hawke understood the mentality of this kind of group-sharing and joked, "What if someone treats us?"

Brand laughed and followed Hawke's joke, "Big blogger, do you want to treat us? I guarantee that more than 100 people, including their families, can come." Hawke said honestly, "I can't afford it."

It was almost noon, and Brand took out his phone: "I'll order something to eat."

Hawke stopped him: "I'll go out and buy it." He couldn't let someone go out of the room and serve food, so he asked: "When I came here, I saw a mountain pizza restaurant nearby. How is it?"

Brand said, “His family is doing well.”

Hawke grabbed his wallet and phone, opened the door, and found Damian and Lewis at the door.

The latter greeted: "Hey, man, you're leaving right after you got here? Did Brand change his orientation and harass you?"

Hawke spread his hands: "I'm going to buy lunch."

Lewis and Damian fist bumped: "Great, let's eat for free!"

Brand came over from the living room and raised his middle finger to Lewis: “Don’t slander my reputation. I have a girl I like in state university and I invited her to the film festival.”

Damian sneered, "You said that last time you came back, your goddess! You pursued her like a male dog in heat, but she was not interested in you and rejected your invitations again and again."

Brand, who is usually talkative, became listless.

Hawke thought of the pretty girl on the platform, but said nothing and went out to buy pizza.

Damian and Lewis walked in and asked, "Does Hawke really work in the entertainment media industry?"

"Of course, he's also an amazing entertainment blogger!" Brand became more energetic and spoke faster than his mind: "He knows a lot about Hollywood."

Seeing that there was something to eat, Lewis asked, "What's the inside story?"

Brand quickly covered his mouth, but the words in his stomach made his throat uncomfortable, and he burst out of his teeth: "I'm going to tell you a top-secret message, don't tell anyone, Winona Ryder, yes! The heroine of Edward Scissorhands, she has a kleptomaniac and often steals things."

Damian and Lewis opened their mouths in surprise and asked a lot of questions.

Not long after, Hawke came back from outside carrying two large pizza boxes.

He also bought a dozen cans of beer, opened them and threw one can to each person, then raised his glass to the other three people: "Cheers to our acquaintance."

"cheers!"

Lewis finished his beer and asked Hawke, "Does Winona Ryder steal the underwear of male celebrities?"

Hawke didn't answer. He turned to look at Brand and said with great sorrow: "This is top secret!"

"I'm sorry." Brand apologized quickly: "I couldn't help it."

He was filled with guilt. “I was wrong about this, Hawke. If you encounter difficulties in Park City, feel free to come to me.”

These people were young and impulsive. Lewis also said, "You shared shocking gossip with us and bought us drinks. If you need help in Park City, just let me know."

Damian said: "If we can't solve it, we can help you find a group of people to help."

Hawke certainly wouldn't care about that, and instead said, "When we got here by car, many places had already started showing the film. Can we go over and take a look this afternoon?"

Business opportunities will not appear on their own, you need to actively look for them.

The money-making operations he thought of also required the right crew to be implemented.

Brand responded, "I'll take you there. It's no big deal. I have acquaintances in the organizing committee."

Natives of small towns, with extensive local network of contacts.

The four of them ate pizza and drank beer in a harmonious atmosphere.

I'm preparing to make it to the new book list. If you still have monthly tickets, please give me a few.
