Summer Kiss

Chapter 54 She sat on his lap

Chapter 54 She sat on his lap
Jiang Yuning hesitated, "But..."

Fu Xicheng was puzzled as to why Jiang Yuning was so hesitant.

He cut to the chase: "But what? You said before that we should talk things out in advance to avoid misunderstandings. But now I want to tell you, Jiang Yuning, I want to spend my whole life with you."

Jiang Yuning was very clear about Fu Xicheng's feelings for her, but she sometimes felt insecure.

"Fu Xicheng, I understand your feelings. In my eyes, you are outstanding."

Fu Xicheng didn't want to listen to her useless words, so he pulled Jiang Yuning into his arms and gently stroked her cheek.

"You're just as good, a future leader in the design world, Jiang Yuning. I like you, but you also need to believe in yourself."

Jiang Yuning's eyes flickered slightly as she met his probing gaze guiltily. "I've always been very confident."

Fu Xicheng seemed a little skeptical, his voice rising at the end, "Oh, really?"

Jiang Yuning realized that she could never win against Fu Xicheng. Suddenly, a strange emotion welled up in her heart. She tugged at Fu Xicheng's clothes, acting a bit like a spoiled child.

"Fu Xicheng, I don't want to walk anymore, carry me down."

Jiang Yuning's words surprised Fu Xicheng. This was the first time Jiang Yuning had asked him to hug her. He almost danced with joy in front of her.

He desperately suppressed the flutter in his heart, speaking with a hint of teasing, "Oh, my girlfriend has finally learned to be affectionate with me."

Fu Xicheng stood up, bent down, and pulled Jiang Yuning into his arms.

Jiang Yuning nervously clung to Fu Xicheng's shoulder, a flush rising to her cheeks. Had she just been being affectionate with him?

She felt that she had only said something ordinary.

Fu Xicheng misunderstood her meaning. She would explain it to him in person later. She did not try to coax him.

Fu Xicheng carried Jiang Yuning downstairs without any effort. When he got to the dining table, he found Jiang Yuning lost in thought, seemingly pondering something.

He didn't disturb her thoughts; he followed his own plan and sat her down in the chair.

At this moment, he raised his eyes and looked at the woman in his arms with great interest. He reached out and brushed the stray hairs from her forehead.

After brushing away the stray hairs, Fu Xicheng waited a while and noticed that Jiang Yuning was still in a daze. He chuckled teasingly.

"What are you thinking about? What could be more important than eating?"

Hearing a familiar voice, Jiang Yuning immediately snapped out of her daze.

She then realized that she was already on the first floor and saw that she was sitting on Fu Xicheng's lap. The next second, she couldn't sit still.

Fu Xicheng pressed down on her shoulder and leaned closer, his voice low, "Only now are you realizing it? It's too late."

Jiang Yuning was caught off guard and met Fu Xicheng's gaze. Fu Xicheng's eyes were dark and bright, and his eyes seemed to want to devour her whole.

She quickly avoided his gaze, pushing the man in front of her away.

"Fu Xicheng, let me get up."

Fu Xicheng noticed the shy yet frightened expression on Jiang Yuning's face. He smiled and realized that even a little lamb could be flustered.

"Sit on my lap, what can I do to you?"

Jiang Yuning was restless, fidgeting on his lap.

Fu Xicheng released his hand, and the next second, Jiang Yuning fled in panic, escaping to the other side.

After admiring the vivid expressions on Jiang Yuning's face, Fu Xicheng stood up. "Go wash your hands first, I'll go to the kitchen to bring you some dishes."

Fu Xicheng placed the prepared dinner on the table, and then sat down gracefully.

Jiang Yuning glanced at the food and observed the expression on Fu Xicheng's face.

Did you make all these dishes?

Fu Xicheng nodded. Apart from him and Jiang Yuning, there was no one else in the villa.

He suddenly became interested and wanted to tease Jiang Yuning, "If I didn't cook this, did some ghost outside cook it?"

Jiang Yuning followed Fu Xicheng's gaze and looked out the French windows. It was pitch black outside. She could vaguely hear a whooshing sound coming from outside, but she couldn't tell if it was the wind or something else.

She didn't dare look any longer, quickly turned her head back, and lowered her head to eat.

Fu Xicheng smiled brightly. He had a feeling that Jiang Yuning was afraid of ghosts.

Not long after, the lights above them suddenly went out, plunging the living room into darkness.

Jiang Yuning put down her chopsticks. Even though Fu Xicheng was sitting across from her, she couldn't see his face clearly at all.

She immediately felt extremely uneasy. Remembering the sounds she had just heard coming from the French windows, she called out in a panic, "Fu Xicheng."

Fu Xicheng was puzzled. Why did the lights suddenly go out? What went wrong?
He had to go and check it out for himself.

"I'm here, Jiang Yuning. You sit here and don't move. I'll go check what's wrong with the power switch."

Jiang Yuning felt uneasy when she realized that Fu Xicheng was about to leave. She didn't want to sit there alone; she wanted to stay with Fu Xicheng.

She picked at her fingers, her heart pounding faster. "Don't go, I'm a little scared."

"Don't be afraid. When you're scared, just think of me."

Fu Xicheng calmed Jiang Yuning down, assuring her that even if the lights were off, he could still come and go as he pleased.

"I'm going to the storage room on the first floor to get some candles. I'll be right back."

In the darkness, Jiang Yuning opened her eyes, trying hard not to let her mind wander. Just then, she seemed to see a glimmer of light in the distance.

What is that glowing thing?
Curiosity compelled her to stand up and walk step by step toward the light.

Before she could even get close to what she saw, Jiang Yuning screamed "Ah!"

Upon hearing Jiang Yuning's scream, Fu Xicheng immediately came out of the storage room and, in the darkness, accurately located Jiang Yuning's position.

He moved closer to her and asked with concern, "What's wrong?"

Jiang Yuning stared straight ahead, not daring to move an inch. Her voice trembled slightly as she spoke, "What is that?"

Fu Xicheng looked up and said in a calm tone, "It's just a painting. This painting can glow in the dark. What's so scary about it?"

Jiang Yuning had never seen a painting like this before, nor had she ever heard of a painting that glows in the dark. She continued to ask, "Why would you hang a painting like this in your villa?"

Fu Xicheng came to Jiang Yuning's side, leaned over, and whispered in her ear, "Because it can ward off evil spirits, Jiang Jiang."

Suddenly, Jiang Yuning felt a chill run through her body, and when she heard the name Jiang Jiang, goosebumps rose all over her body.

She immediately moved a few steps to the side.

A look of terror crossed her face. At this moment, she became timid. "You're not Fu Xicheng. Fu Xicheng wouldn't call me Jiang Jiang."
