Chapter 703 I see that each of you possesses unique skills
The creature inside the vesicle slightly raised one eyelid.
Azrael suddenly felt dizzy and lightheaded; everything around him seemed to dim and be shrouded in shadow.
A strong feeling of hunger surged from its belly.
He felt his body losing nutrients little by little, his stomach empty as if filled with cold air, his blood vessels shrinking due to lack of nutrients, his fat rapidly being consumed, and his moisture draining from between his lips and teeth.
So hungry, so hungry, so hungry
The heat dissipated from my body like a ghost, while the cold from the outside world pierced my body like needles.
He huddled up, his head peeking out of the cave, dragging his tattered fur.
So hungry, so hungry, so hungry
He couldn't remember when he had last eaten.
Is it the shriveled little worm that we dug out from under the rubble last time?
He missed the taste of that little worm crunching on his gums—bitter, almost dry, like eating a grain of sand, but strangely satisfying.
His last tooth also fell out last night, apparently due to atrophy from not being used for a long time.
He couldn't bear to part with the tooth, so he swallowed it whole, praying that the broken tooth could provide him with even a little nourishment.
What is prayer? To whom do we pray? To God?
All he remembered was the black metal skull falling from the sky, bringing with it a raging storm of emerald lightning.
He saw the sky ablaze with flames from another world, and pointed-eared shadows and green beasts, giants, and skeletons clashing together.
Planets were torn apart, continents were hurled into the sky, and ancient temples proved so fragile before true divine power, instantly turning to dust.
He didn't know why his homeland had suffered such a disaster, nor why those skeletons, pointy-eared creatures, and green beasts wanted to destroy his planet.
He had even lost the ability to hate them; now all he felt was hunger.
When his muscles still had some strength, he would look up on clear nights.
Every day new stars fade away, every day bright orbs of light twinkle in the night sky, until finally, when he looked out over the night, he saw only dark voids, as if an invisible hunter was feeding on the stars.
Feeding on the stars, he couldn't help but imagine what it would feel like to swallow them, trying to conjure up a sense of fullness, but he failed.
He had forgotten what it felt like to be full.
He almost slipped and fell on the snow.
The strength in his muscles was rapidly draining away, and he knew clearly that if he collapsed, he might never have the chance to stand up again.
But he did not feel fear.
Instead, he developed a fantasy that after he fell, bacteria, wild animals, and insects would gnaw on his body, feasting on his flesh and blood.
He fantasized, fantasized about the feeling of fullness surging from the bellies of the creatures that fed on him.
He no longer clung to life, no longer felt anger, no longer prayed for hope, no longer craved pleasure, no longer desired revenge. He only wanted the feeling of being full.
A sharp blade pierced his shoulder, and dark gray blood flowed from it. His knees buckled, and his body slumped to the ground.
He trembled as he raised his head and saw a beast covered in chitinous armor standing before him, its mandibles slightly open, hot breath blowing onto its face.
He looked into the beast's eyes and felt a strange resonance within him.
Those eyes held only hunger, naked hunger, exactly like his.
His shoulder was bitten off by the beast's sharp teeth; the flesh was gnawed off and stuffed into its mouth.
Eat, eat, keep eating, eat everything you can see, until you rediscover the feeling of fullness you've forgotten.
A lion's face loomed close to his eyes, its cold gaze fixed intently on him.
Azrael let out a wild howl, spitting blood as his teeth fell from his gums and his body rapidly lost nutrients.
He suddenly took two or three steps back, finally breaking free from the hallucination he had just experienced.
Azrael struggled to lift his head and look around. He saw that the Archangels of Forgiveness bore similar wounds to his own, but they, along with Horel, were all still standing, conscious.
About half of the people in the Black Shield fell down, and the rest had the same wounds.
“You have my genetic sequence, and through this my spirit extends into you, protecting your spirit,” the lion whispered.
Azrael nodded slightly. It turned out that they had inherited Llane's genetic sequence, and Llane's spirit protected theirs through this.
Ok?
Azrael blinked, suddenly realizing something, and looked at the black shields still standing.
Those Black Shields who had fought alongside Azrael for months looked slightly guilty and turned their heads away.
They all possess extraordinary skills.
"Watch out!" Ryan's voice suddenly rang out.
A twisted, shadowy tentacle shot towards them with incredible speed. Ryan swung his kite shield, attempting to block it.
But the tentacle twisted at incredible speed, bypassing the Emperor's Shield and stabbing towards Ryan's back.
Harrel and Azrael managed to dodge thanks to their quick reflexes, but the others weren't so lucky.
Before the Lion could sever the tentacles with the Sword of Loyalty, the two angels of forgiveness and the two black shields were pierced by the tentacles, their bodies instantly drained of their nutrients, turning into ashes and vanishing with the wind.
The tentacle severed by the lion twitched a few times, then abruptly retracted beside the egg.
The creature inside the follicle wriggled its body, curled up its four arms, and stared at Ryan El-Johnson with its one open eye.
The moment Azrael saw that eye, a powerful hunger surged through him, and screams and hallucinations filled his ears.
He recalled the things he had just seen, and in a daze, he understood what he was facing and what the Tyranid swarm was.
They are survivors. Survivors of a war.
The War of Heaven, the War of Heaven millions of years ago, a war between the Ancient Ones and the Necromancers of the cosmos, transcended the galaxy and spread throughout the entire universe. Stars fell in that war, planets were easily shattered, the torrents of the warp destroyed reality, and the roars of the star gods twisted the laws of physics.
Aside from the galaxy, which served as an ancient fortress, everything in the universe was ignited. Even the planets that miraculously survived underwent drastic changes in climate and environment, making it almost impossible to sustain life.
The surviving creatures, ravenous, began to evolve, transforming into swarm-like beings. They rose from their planet, scavenging for food among the barren stars, devouring the biomass and genetic sequences of other survivors, constantly evolving and expanding.
It was like an ark, carrying the genetic sequences of all the survivors, and also their final emotion: hunger.
Those emotions, that hunger, mingled together, rose from those bodies that fed or were eaten to become the hive will, the Great Devourer, a distant hunger.
Now those severed limbs are spreading into that body.
That four-armed humanoid entity alone was larger than the swarm of insects still drifting in the void, unable to gather in the Milky Way.
More Hive Wills are converging on Him, making Him ever more complete.
Ryan El-Jonson transformed into a blurry afterimage and rushed towards the incubating follicle.
The figure within the egg sac writhed a few times, and shadowy tentacles slammed towards the lion from all directions. A barrage of fire erupted from behind Lion, while Azrael, Zabril, and Horel gripped their swords tightly, charging out from the ranks to protect the lion.
The sharp tentacles collided with the power sword, the immense force contorting Azrael's face, reminding him of Karn, the Chosen of Khorne.
Azrael once had an epic battle with Karn. It all started after Karn mocked Azrael's lion helmet with wings on it, calling it ridiculous. Azrael then charged forward, chopped off the rabbit ears on Karn's helmet, and ran away.
But even in that brief exchange, Kahn's terrifying power left a deep impression on Azrael.
The power released by this tiny tentacle is now almost on par with Kahn's.
Horel, standing beside Azrael, abruptly severed a tentacle. Zabril, though a little slower, also managed to cut off his own tentacle with difficulty.
Azrael only followed along because he saw that both Zabril and Horel, the two fallen angels, had charged forward, and as the leader of the Dark Angels Chapter, it seemed inappropriate not to follow.
Azrael cleaved off several tentacles that were approaching him, and together with Horel and Zabril, they drew near to the lion's side.
This forest demigod displayed the extraordinary power granted to him by his growl; specks of psionic light flickered on the Emperor's Shield, forcefully blocking most of the tentacles.
At the same time, Azrael heard the sound of flowing water beside him, and a deep forest appeared and disappeared beside the lion.
The lion brandished its sword of loyalty, repelling the approaching tentacles, and then strode into the dimly lit forest.
Zabril followed closely behind. Azrael and Horel had long heard of the lion's power and, following suit, entered the forest after Zabril.
In an instant, the air was no longer hot, the faint chirping of insects disappeared, and the hunger that had gripped my body vanished.
The air was chilly, the sunlight dim, the dense canopy of trees blocked out the sun, and a thick layer of fallen leaves piled up at the feet. In the distance, the faint sound of a stream could be heard.
It felt like arriving in another dimension in an instant.
"Is this your newly acquired power? It's truly amazing," Hurel said with some surprise. "Is it some kind of spiritual power?"
“It’s not newly acquired.” Ryan led the three of them swiftly through the forest, seemingly relying on instinct to find their way. “It might be psionic energy, or something else.”
"All I know is that time and space in this forest are different from those in the outside world."
"Time flows more slowly here, and how much slower it seems to depend on my mood."
“Taking one step here is equivalent to taking many steps in the outside world, and it can even be used to move between different planets.”
“This place is practically a reflection of Caliban,” Herrell remarked, looking around the woods.
Suddenly, his steps slowed down for a moment.
He spotted a lake shrouded in a thin mist through a gap in the forest.
The lake was exceptionally vast, stretching as far as the eye could see, with only distant mountains appearing and disappearing in the distance.
In the center of this vast lake, one can see a small wooden boat, on which stands an old man, thin and emaciated, wearing a tattered robe.
The old man was holding a fishing rod and fishing for something.
Azrael's gaze was also drawn to the old man.
He noticed that the old man seemed to be injured, and blood was flowing uncontrollably from his body, falling into the water and spreading across the lake, turning the surface into a slightly reddish-black color, resembling a pitch-black sun from a distance.
Beneath the lake's surface, Azrael seemed to see the shadows of five enormous beasts.
Green, red, blue, purple, and metallic blue—five wild beasts crouched beneath the lake's surface, while the old man's small boat rotted and teetered on the brink of collapse.
Not only that, Azrael also saw something dragging the small boat, trying to pull it below the surface of the lake so that the old man could join them.
Some of the drag came from the pitch-black sun formed from the old man's blood, and some from the metallic blue; the two forces combined, already making the old man's small boat sway precariously, and he barely managed to stay afloat.
What the hell is this.
Just looking at Azrael gives me the creeps.
Ryan El-Johnson glanced at the old man, his brow furrowing slightly, seemingly somewhat uneasy about the old man's condition.
But he didn't say a word, he just kept moving through the woods.
"Ok?"
Just as the lion began to slow down, seemingly approaching its target, a sharp, piercing rustling sound suddenly echoed through the forest.
Azrael felt the air become scorching, a wave of hunger surged from his stomach, and his body was rapidly losing nutrients.
Sizzle!!!
Suddenly, sharp, blade-like tentacles shot out from the leaf-covered ground, slicing past Azrael.
Not only on the ground, but even the treetops were instantly sliced open by those tentacles, revealing the gloomy sky.
Tentacles tore through the sky, then fell from above, their sharp spikes aimed at Ryan El-Johnson.
The lion brandished its kite-like shield to deflect the rain of tentacles and spikes.
Azrael also noticed that the lion's expression was somewhat gloomy.
The will of the Great Devourer had actually infiltrated this area, this forest, and directly attacked the male lion that was moving through the woods.
Clearly, as more and more Hive Will gathered within that body, the power the Great Devourer could unleash across the galaxy was growing stronger and more complete. For a time, even Ryan El-Johnson's power was suppressed by the Hive Will.
More and more tentacles began to surge into the forest from all directions. Hunger raged through the forest and even began to spread to the lake that Azrael and the others had just seen, reaching out towards the old man.
The old man's weak and withered body lifted slightly as he gripped the hook in his hand.
