Chapter 690 Asmodai!
Chapter 690 Asmodai!
Not only at the Stone Fortress, but also from the entrance to the cabin passageway, Azrael saw the Glory Queen-class battleship Red Tear in the distant void, as well as the Emperor-class battleship Lord of Light, which was once the flagship of Saint Doraemon during the time of Markarius, and the Abyss-class battleship Doraemon Cabinet, which he had taken back from the great traitor Erebas.
Now, with its immense power in the void, including a large number of Astartes, what kind of enemy is it going to fight?
Azrael shook his head slightly; this wasn't something he should be concerned with right now.
He was merely a Black Shield Astartes; obeying orders was his only duty.
Yes, obey orders and set foot on the Stone Fortress.
Azrael stepped onto the terracotta bridge, looking down at the rough stone ground just a step away, and felt a wave of dizziness.
He felt a tightness in his throat, a lightheadedness, and a sense of his head floating away, as if it were turning into a firefly, detaching from his body and soaring into the sky.
What a coincidence! Or is it really just a coincidence?
He fled the Stone Fortress, abandoned his position as Chapter Master, and now...fate has sent him back to the Stone Fortress.
Azrael even suspected that there might be some kind of blue, treacherous conspiracy behind this.
Just as Azrael hesitated, a hand gently patted his back, making a crisp metallic clanging sound.
“Don’t be afraid, calm down. The current widespread panic can’t be directed at you,” Harel said in a low but reassuring voice, standing beside Azrael.
“You?” Azrael was slightly taken aback, and for a moment even thought that his identity had been exposed.
“Don’t worry, I don’t know who you are. I just sense that you are afraid of the Stone Fortress.” Hrel shook his head, indicating to Azrael to rest assured.
Azrael took a deep breath, suppressing the unease in his heart.
Harrel is right. With such a massive mobilization—tens of thousands of Astartes and millions of mortal Asgardian soldiers—Azrael is insignificant in comparison. If this is aimed at Azrael, then this is far too much of a show.
It's just a coincidence, just a coincidence.
Azrael stepped onto the rough ground of the Stone Fortress. He had walked on this ground countless times before, but this time the feeling was the most peculiar.
He was both like a lost traveler returning to a homeland he thought he could never return to, and like a fallen angel about to be imprisoned.
He took a few steps, then felt dizzy and nauseous.
Fallen Angel. Collapsed Caliban,
Since Caliban's destruction led to the birth of the fallen angels, shouldn't he, who caused Caliban's destruction, bear responsibility for the existence of the fallen angels? Shouldn't he also be judged and repented in the dungeons of the Stone Fortress?
Suddenly, Azrael sensed a sharp, deadly gaze fixed on him from not far away.
Azrael raised his head and met that gaze.
It was a dark angel draped in a bone-colored robe and a dark green hood, wearing a skull helmet, holding a priest's staff, and adorned with a rosary, surrounded by eerie gray-white smoke.
The dark angel was scrutinizing Azrael with a critical gaze, as if Azrael's recent reaction had alerted him.
Asmodeus?!
Azrael's heart tightened.
Asmody, the master interrogator of the Dark Angels, the fear in the hearts of all fallen angels, was the most extreme, insane, and brutal even within the Dark Angels' warband, filled with extremists. He could keep a fallen angel conscious while enduring weeks of torture and still survive. Many fallen angels would commit suicide on the spot at the mere mention of Asmody's name. Yet, even so, Asmody failed to fulfill his duties as master interrogator.
The master interrogator's duty was to make fallen angels repent, but even with so many horrific torture methods, Asmody's only achievement was to make two fallen angels repent. This further agitated Asmody, and his behavior became increasingly out of control.
In the past, Azrael has cleaned up the messes of his outrageous behavior many times.
But now, facing Asmodian's interrogative gaze, Azrael couldn't help but look away. Oh no!
Azrael inwardly cursed, "Oh no!"
The relaxed days spent slaying aliens had loosened his nerves, and he now showed hesitation, fear, and avoidance when facing Asmody's gaze.
This couldn't possibly escape the notice of that damned bastard Asmodeus standing here; he's probably trying to pull a few fallen angels out of the black shield.
He now clearly suspects Azrael is a fallen angel, and with the Lion above, for Asmodie, the suspicion itself is evidence.
Asmodari strode forward, charging straight at Azrael.
Azrael inwardly groaned, his fingers subtly reaching for the sword at his waist.
Asmodari then reached out his hand towards Azrael.
A hand covered in black armor gripped Asmodie's wrist tightly.
“Abusive man, what do you want to do to my brother?” Harrel stood beside Azrael, one hand outstretched, gripping Asmody’s wrist, staring coldly at Asmody.
"Release him!" Asmodeus growled. "This man is suspected of corruption. You and your squad, surrender your weapons immediately!"
"Whose orders? Whose decree? Whose verdict?" Herrell gripped his wrist tighter: "We are the Black Shield, who have abandoned everything to serve the Emperor. The Emperor has already given us judgment, ordering us to fight to the death against the enemies of mankind."
“Sadist, do you think you have more authority than the emperor?”
Asmodian let out a wild growl, and his priest's scepter whistled through the air, hurtling straight towards Herrell's head.
Azrael gripped his sword tightly, preparing to strike, but...
Herrell's sword was drawn even faster than Asmodian's, lightly deflecting Asmodian's priest's scepter, and the blade was pressed directly against Asmodian's throat.
Such a fast blade! Even faster than usual!
Azrael was slightly surprised. Although he wasn't a chapter leader renowned for his martial prowess, and couldn't compare to Logan, Calgar, and Diego—those three ridiculously strong individuals—nor could he compare to Dante of the Blood Angels,
But Azrael was ultimately a chapter commander of a mother order, and his martial skills were among the best in the entire Empire, while Horel's swordsmanship was actually faster than his.
Just who is this brother of mine?
But the current situation is a bit dangerous.
Asmodal and Herrell faced off, and the atmosphere in the air grew increasingly tense.
The black shields, death watchers, dark angels, and a small number of holy blood angels all turned their gazes toward them.
A squad of Dark Angels is marching in this direction.
Strangely, Azrael didn't recognize the markings on the Astartes for a moment.
Then, after a brief few seconds, Azrael realized that the marks and emblems were the sigils of the Dark Angels Legion from the Great Crusade.
Dreadwing, leader of the Knights of the Holy Trinity, Knight of the Second Destroyer Squad, Third Company, Fifteenth Warband. But Azrael had no way of knowing more about him.
However, Asmody revealed the name of the leading dark angel.
“Zabriel!” he roared, his voice tinged with anger.
The first thought that popped into Azrael's mind when he looked at Zabril was this.
The Astartes named Zabril didn't speak, but simply gestured to Hrel to express his apology.
Then he looked at Asmodel, gesturing for him to step back.
Asmodée cast a look of utter disgust at him.
But Zabril remained unmoved, coldly asking, "Do you intend to defy the Lion's will?" Asmodie let out a low growl, then turned and left as if resigned.
Zabril turned his head slightly, looking at Azrael and then at the other Black Shields:
"The Lion has forgiven our sins. If there are truly my brothers among you, you may once again don the First Legion's insignia and return to your brotherhood."
"You need not worry about being persecuted, the lion will protect you."
No one reacted from within the black shield.
Zabrel shook his head slightly; he understood that the resentment in his heart couldn't be eliminated in a short time.
He simply extended his hand in a gesture of preparation for battle:
"Your mission will be assigned soon, so get ready."
"This battle is completely different from the past; both we and the enemy are in a hurry."
After saying that, Zabril left the port.
"Thank you." Azrael nodded in thanks.
“We’re all brothers, no need for further words.” Herrell said calmly, “Brother, get yourself in the right mindset. It seems this battle will be even more intense than we imagined.”
"Whether we can atone for our sins depends on this."
"Who is our enemy?" Azrael asked, clearly indicating that Horel, as the squad leader, had already received the mission objective.
"Tiamat Galaxy, Tyranid Swarm".
Azrael sheathed his power sword, which he had just finished adjusting; he could feel the Stone Fortress itself trembling slightly.
The largest arbitrary stargate he had ever seen stood in the void, and the megalithic fortress was passing through it.
Their enemy is the Tyranid swarm, and their target is located in the Tiamat system.
According to mission intelligence, it is anticipated that this star system will contain a much larger Zerg fleet than previously recorded.
That's not all; a large number of Zerg hive fleets are also converging on the Tiamat system from the void.
The giant rock needs to penetrate directly into the Tiamat system and attack the enemy from the center, so the operation must be swift.
A portion of the Deathwatch were ordered to remain at the boulder to reinforce its defenses.
Meanwhile, more Deathwatch members, including Azrael's Black Shield squad, were ordered to travel to Ziafria, the largest planet in the galaxy.
Their goal is a transcontinental flesh and blood spire on the planet.
“We’re almost there,” Herrell said in a low voice.
The tremors ceased; the first half of the megalithic fortress had crossed the arbitrary stargate and entered the Tiamat system.
The environment in the void remained largely unchanged, but Azrael's body trembled as he suddenly felt the surrounding space darken, as if it were shrouded in some kind of shadow.
A roar, filled with hunger and greed, rang in his ears, sending chills down Azrael's spine.
Bio-ships, a vast number resembling giant, armored worms, appeared in the void. They sensed the invasion of the Tiamat system's megalithic fortress and surged towards it from all directions like swarms of ants. Roaring bio-plasma shot through the void like a sudden downpour.
The Void Shield of the Stone Fortress flickered and roared, as the ancient creation of the Dark Angels began to function.
But Azrael sensed that the Stone Fortress was trembling, as if it were fearing something.
A sharp, piercing chirping sound suddenly rang out, its pitch so high it seemed to tear reality apart.
The sound did not originate from the material dimension, nor from a vacuum, but from subspace, from those deep shadows.
Reality surged, and Azrael felt his soul being torn apart by the roar, his nerves trembling uncontrollably.
The void shield of the Great Stone Fortress collided head-on with the roar, causing a violent tremor that nearly caused it to collapse.
Just then, a series of light and cheerful songs rang in Azrael's ears, instantly suppressing the terrifying insect chirping.
Countless miniature Doraemons surged forth from beneath reality, forming twenty-two rings that encircled the giant rock, instantly stabilizing its void shield. Simultaneously, Azrael witnessed the boundless void being torn apart, and the stars in the Tiamat system dimming.
An even more magnificent light poured down from the highest heavens, piercing into the Tiamat galaxy.
A round hand, wreathed in scorching light like a furnace, slammed into the Tiamat system.
The shadow that had enveloped the Tiamat galaxy was suddenly illuminated, revealing its specific form.
Those hideous, twisted claws, spikes, tentacles, and mouthparts pierced out from the shadows, blocking the round hand.
The rift that tore through the boundless void expanded further, reflecting the scene from the highest heavens into reality.
Azrael's pupils contracted uncontrollably.
A face, a round, red-nosed face larger than an entire galaxy, emerged from the crack, brandishing its round arms and battling the shadowy mass.
A portion of Doraemon's power has descended into the Tiamat system and is currently battling the will of the insect hive.
This scene is a bit too exaggerated, isn't it?
"Get ready, the swarm is coming!" Horel roared, interrupting Azrael.
A large number of Zerg bio-ships abandoned their ranged attacks using bio-plasma cannons and instead chose to directly charge at the Stone Fortress.
The Void Shield works by warping and transferring energy and kinetic energy that impacts it through subspace. However, this defense is more effective against high-energy, high-speed attacks, while objects traveling at relatively slow speeds can pass through it.
The Void Shield is a weapon that defends against fast attacks but not slow ones, and the biological characteristics of the Zerg Hive Fleet can help them pass through the Void Shield.
Countless Hive fleets fell to the firepower of the boulder and the surrounding ships, and to the bizarre gadgets that Mini-Dora pulled out. However, some Hive fleets managed to break through the void shield and drop their airdrop pods onto the boulder.
The boulder trembled, and Azrael saw enormous shadows rising from it. They were the Titans, the creatures of the Terran.
