Chapter 538 A Lie! Absolutely a lie!
Chapter 538 A Lie! Absolutely a lie!
“You traitor!” Zabril picked up the chainsaw sword from the ground and shouted through gritted teeth.
“A lie,” the hooded man said coldly. “No one has ever dared to accuse me of being a traitor.”
“I dare,” Zabril growled, gripping his chainsword tightly. “You betrayed us, you betrayed Caliban, you even abandoned the Empire.”
"Utterly absurd."
The hooded man slowly raised the practice sword in his hand:
“You even killed my loyal son and stole his weapon; the chainsaw sword in your hand does not belong to you.”
The hooded man held a blunt metal block, heavy and unlikely to inflict real damage on his enemies.
But Zabril had no doubt that the sword could kill him; after all, the person wielding the sword was sharper than any weapon.
“Ridiculous, your ‘loyal’ son wants to kill me.”
Zabril laughed mockingly, his voice icy:
"For the past ten thousand years, all they have wanted to do is cover up the truth. When I first awoke, I had a few loyal sons of Saint Gilles traveling with me, but my loyal little brothers killed them without hesitation, just to conceal my existence."
“But I turned around and killed those traitors, avenging those who were truly loyal. This chainsaw sword was taken from those traitors hiding in the Empire.”
“My dear sir, if you consider this your loyal offspring, then you have truly raised your son well.”
"This is utterly absurd!!!"
The hooded man growled, and Zabril seized the moment, swinging his chainsaw at the man before him.
He knew the opportunity was fleeting: either kill the lion or be killed by it.
He could only hope that such a sudden attack would catch the lion off guard and expose its weaknesses.
It's getting closer!!!
The chainsaw sword was pressed against the hooded man's neck, almost severing his head.
Suddenly, Zabril felt a sharp pain in his chest, as if he had been hit by a cannonball. He was sent flying backward, and the chainsaw sword slipped from his hand, rolling several times on the ground.
The hooded man simply swung his sword lightly, striking Zabril in the chest and destroying Zabril's meticulously planned attack.
Zabril, blood dripping from his mouth, stared intently at the hooded man with a look of pure hatred.
The man stood beside Zabril, seemingly observing and sizing him up.
The man slowly removed his hood, revealing his face.
Age had etched itself upon that dignified face.
The Lion was completely different from the one Zabril remembered. The Lion of the past was so proud and terrifying, but now the Lion's face was full of wrinkles and a gray beard. However, when Zabril focused his energy, he could still see the endless glory and power behind that face.
“I do not know anything about what you said. I have been asleep for ten thousand years. When I opened my eyes, the Milky Way was completely different.”
“My father was worshipped as a god, while another god who claimed not to be a god awakened and healed me.”
“When I first awoke, I executed Luther in accordance with the Emperor’s will. Now, I have awoke a second time to see you.”
"I have never seen or know anything about those dark angels you speak of who are hunting you down."
Zabril's mouth gaped slightly as he realized with surprise that the lion was explaining something to him.
If it weren't for the tremor in his bloodline telling Zabril that the person before him was indeed a lion, Zabril would have suspected that it was some warp entity that had transformed into Lion's appearance.
Although it was an explanation, Ryan's tone remained unquestionable, and Zabril instinctively believed that what the lion said was true.
"As for ten thousand years ago, when I returned to Caliban from Terra, you opened fire on us without any prior notice."
"And Luther Luther was corrupted by the chaotic evils of the warp, becoming ugly and insane."
"Ah, when I returned to my hometown, all I saw was betrayal."
"When I awoke from my millennia-long slumber, all I saw was betrayal."
"You still try to kill me, the fallen angels? Is that what they call you?" The lion's tone carried a hint of sorrow.
“I don’t understand.” Zabril was surprised by the pain in his voice: “We didn’t betray you either. I never received any orders to fire on you, and I had almost no contact with Luther. We knew nothing at the time.”
"All we know is that you abandoned us. All we know is that after you returned to Caliban, you slaughtered your own offspring with intense anger and hatred. All we see is you destroying Caliban—"
“I did not destroy Caliban, never,” Ryan retorted in a low growl.
"Was it all Luther's doing?" Zabril asked bitterly.
He seemed to realize that all of this, this hatred that had lasted for thousands of years, was just a meaningless misunderstanding.
"Many are, but at least the one who destroyed Caliban was not Luther. His power was insufficient to destroy a planet, and my orbital bombardment at most weakened Caliban's continental shelf. I still do not know who destroyed Caliban."
Ryan's tone was laced with hatred:
"Perhaps the real mastermind is still hiding behind the veil, or perhaps the dark gods are manipulating our fate, but the dark angel will never forget, and I will take my revenge sooner or later."
The same hatred also began to sprout in Zabril's heart. He stared wide-eyed and almost muttered to himself:
“I’ve heard many rumors. Some say you became Guilliman’s henchman; some say you provided weapons to Peturabo and massacred the loyalists on the Istvan 5; some say you forced Saint-Gilles to be crowned emperor; and some say you turned against Guilliman and attacked Macurag with Conrad Coz.”
Upon hearing these words, the lion's body stiffened for a moment, a hesitation so brief that Zabril could not perceive it.
"A lie!" the lion said firmly. "A complete lie!"
Then both men fell silent, a cold stillness enveloping them, until the lion spoke:
“Zabriel, I want you to swear an oath to me with all that you cherish, with your honor, with the name of the Emperor, and even with the name of the uncrowned prince.”
"You swear that you remain loyal to the Emperor and humanity, and that you still love the Lord of Humanity and the human race. You attacked me and your still loyal brothers only because you mistakenly believed that I had betrayed the Lord of Humanity."
Zabril gasped for breath, feeling dizzy, but he still placed his hand on his chest and solemnly said, "I swear, in the name of the Emperor, in the name of the Uncrowned Prince, in the name of the Dark Angel."
"My loyalty to the Emperor and humanity is no different from when I was first created. If you remain loyal, then my loyalty to you will remain as fervent as ever."
Ryan Aljonson took a step back and then extended his hand to Zabril.
This was a great honor and respect, but Zabril did not move.
“Swear it,” Zabril growled.
"What?" Ryan was taken aback, seemingly not understanding what Zabril was talking about.
“I want you to swear an oath, Lion. I want you to swear an oath with everything you cherish, with your honor, with the name of your father, and even with the name of the former Order of Order.”
"You swear that you remain loyal to the Emperor and humanity, and that you still love the Lord of Humanity and the human race. You have attacked me and your other still loyal offspring only because you mistakenly believe that we have betrayed the Lord of Humanity."
The tone was almost accusatory, and a flash of anger clearly crossed Ryan's eyes. Zabril was already prepared for his head to fly into the air.
But something unexpected happened: the anger in Ryan's eyes was suppressed, and he pulled Zabrel to his feet without any room for argument.
“I swear,” the lion said.
This word was like a key to unlock his shackles, and Zabril's eyes welled up with tears: "We have been killing each other for ten thousand years, meaningless killing."
“Someone will pay the price for this.” Ryan’s voice was low and menacing, like a wildfire about to ignite. “But before that, Zabril, tell me, how many loyal offspring can I still trust?”
"I need you to complete a mission from the Emperor and Saint Doraemon."
