Chapter 536 A Skeleton Manipulating Technology

Chapter 536 A Skeleton Manipulating Technology

Szalak the Silent King, the supreme ruler of cosmic necromancy theory, the last leader of the Triune Council, an enemy of the Star Gods and the Old Ones, and a Class A war criminal of the galaxy.
He reigned at the end of the arduous war between the Deathbringers and the Old Ones, ignoring the warnings of the astrologer Eurycan, and chose to worship the star gods in order to fight against the Old Ones.
The first star god worshipped by the Silent King was the Deceiver. As one of the four great liars of the galaxy, the Deceiver did not disappoint the Silent King, tricking him severely and ultimately leading to the transformation of his life form.
The former fearers of the dead were burned in the furnace, their souls becoming the dessert of the star gods. Their flesh and blood were destroyed, their memories uploaded to living metal bodies, turning them into soulless mechanical slaves. Thus, the space necromancers were born.

Thus began the true War of Heaven. The Star Gods and the Necromancers ravaged the material dimensions, their war against the Old Ones and their subordinate races, the Eldar, nearly igniting the entire galaxy. This war was reflected in the Warp, turning the once peaceful Warp into a chaotic mess. Even the Old Ones were ultimately consumed by the backlash of the Warp, perishing in its turmoil.
In a sense, all the tragedies in the Milky Way today can be traced back to the day when the Silent King Szalak chose to believe in the Star God.
Later, Szalak led a necromancer rebellion, destroying the weakened Star Gods after the War of Heaven and tearing the gods of the material universe to pieces.
However, the Necromancers were exhausted and unable to fight against the rising Eldar Empire. Therefore, Szalak ordered the Necromancers into a six-thousand-year-long slumber, attempting to outlive the Necromancers.
The Silent King himself destroyed his overall control agreement with all the undead, exiling himself to the boundless depths of space beyond the galaxy to repent for his sins.

Until recently, the Silent King encountered the Tyranid swarm outside the galaxy. Realizing the threat of the Great Devourer, the Silent King returned to the galaxy in an attempt to reintegrate the undead to fight against the Tyranids.

Zhou Yun brought him up because he planned to leave several alternative routes.
Now, besides pinning his hopes on the three-year-old "Sleepyhead Pillow," Zhou Yun's only remaining option is for the Emperor to push him towards godhood.

Zhou Yun, however, wanted to leave himself another path open, and forming an alliance with the undead was one of them. The undead had no connection to the warp, were powerful enough, and possessed many technologies for isolating the warp. Among the various monsters and demons in the galaxy, the undead were one of the few races worth cooperating with.

Among the undead, at least the Silent King yearns to reverse the transformation of life forms, and Zhou Yun happens to have a way to help the undead regain their souls and even flesh and blood bodies.
Zhou Yun inquired about the Silent King's situation to verify whether cooperating with the undead was feasible.

There are not many people left in the galaxy who have seen and know the Silent King.

Xi Gaoqi was one of them. The Eldar and the Undead were sworn enemies, and Xi Gaoqi had a very high opinion of the Silent King.
"The Emperor and the Silent King are like two sides of the same coin."

"If you cheat Emperor, Emperor can turn around and steal your kidneys."

"But if you cheat the Silent King, you will receive the kidneys of an entire race."

This is how Xi Gaoqi described the Silent King.

Besides Xi Gaoqi, the only other person Zhou Yun could think of who knew anything about the Silent King was Saint Gilles.
At least the Silent King once claimed to Dante that he had a good relationship with Saint Gilles, and when talking about Saint Gilles, the Silent King spoke as if he were talking about his deceased wife.

“Szalak?” Saint Gilles gave a somewhat strange look when Zhou Yun asked about the Silent King.

“He’s a bit like…like an emperor,” Saint Gilles said after a moment’s hesitation.

Zhou Yun's expression turned somewhat strange upon hearing the comparison between Saint Gilles and Sigucci.
It's worth noting that Szalac's assessment of Saint Gilles was much more straightforward.

According to Szalak, if Saint Gilles had become the emperor of the empire, he would have led humanity and even the galaxy to a bright future. He believed that Saint Gilles would have been a more reasonable emperor, the only human worthy of his remembrance. He respected Saint Gilles and remembered their encounter for ten thousand years. He even felt regret, believing that everything would have been very different if Saint Gilles had not died.
As for the emperor, Szalak's assessment was simply, "a dried-up corpse who plays with witchcraft."
But Saint Gilles observed a certain similarity between Szalak and the Emperor: the mummified corpse that manipulates witchcraft and the skeletal figure that manipulates technology are indeed somewhat alike.
"Is this a compliment or an insult?" Zhou Yun asked, raising an eyebrow slightly. "An insult, an insult to the Emperor," Saint Gilles sighed. "The one thing Szalak is better than the Emperor in is that he is more sincere."

“But that’s not a good thing. After all, my friend, even you and Sigucci are more sincere than the Emperor.”

"But if I had to trust someone, I would rather trust the Emperor than Szalak."

"Believing in the Emperor means you'll at most be deceived by the Emperor, but believing in Szalak means you'll be deceived by countless others along with him."

“At least the Emperor preserved his race before the gods, while Szalak sold his race to the gods.”

It's now clear that the Silent King's love for Saint Gilles is unrequited.

Noticing Zhou Yun's gaze, Saint Gilles shook his head slightly:
"Forming an alliance with the undead is indeed a viable option, and I would like to visit Szalak again if the opportunity arises."

“But Szalak is not a trustworthy person. It’s not that he’s particularly cunning, but simply that he’s unreliable.”

"If the gods try to thwart your plan, they may very well bewitch or deceive Szalak, causing him to make the wrong decision."

Zhou Yun nodded slightly as he listened to Saint Gilles' words.
The alliance with the undead was just one of his backup plans; he didn't intend to devote too much energy to it for the time being.

Besides the necromancy, Zhou Yun actually had two other ideas, but verifying their feasibility was quite troublesome.
The more important thing now is to go to the Eye of Fear and replenish his account.
Thinking of this, Zhou Yun calmed down slightly and looked into the four-dimensional pocket.
The lion he healed should have already seen his offspring.

In the Ramirez-class Star Fortress, behind the mountain fortress,
Zabril, a fallen angel from Terra, a knight in the 2nd Destroyer Squad, 15th Regiment, 3rd Company of the Dark Angels Legion, formerly the uncrowned prince of the Skeleton Army, and later one of the founding members of the First Legion's Dreadwing, is currently meditating with his eyes closed.
But in the silence, he faintly smelled the scent of forest earth and heard the sound of firm footsteps approaching from afar.

The air instantly filled with a dangerous smell, and Zabril slightly opened his eyes.
