Chapter 470 The King of the Forest Sleeps Here

Chapter 470 The King of the Forest Sleeps Here
Atop the Blood Gladiator strike cruiser, a slight subspace tremor reverberated like a tide.

The power armor, which looked like dark red flesh exposed to the air after being skinned, appeared directly on the traitor's ship.

Mephiston, the chief think tank director of the Blood Angels, glanced around with his gray and cold eyes embedded in his pale skin. A team of Blood Guards and think tanks appeared behind them.
They did not enter the ship through normal boarding techniques, but were swept up and transported directly into the ship by Mephiston's powerful psychic power.

A mere World Eaters strike cruiser like this was not worth the fanfare, not to mention the presence of Mephiston, an Astartes psyker who could rival the great Daemons.

The reason for deploying such a luxurious lineup has little to do with the World Devourer.
It was Mephiston who, during a routine pre-war psychic prophecy, detected the inexplicable and strange subspace fluctuations on the ship.
This wave was something Mephiston had never seen before. It was even more powerful than his own, as deep as an endless forest.
Mephiston followed this subspace fluctuation to make a prediction, but saw a confusing hallucination.

He saw a dark and gloomy forest, with shadowy beasts crawling in the forest, gurgling streams, and silent black-armored knights.

This forest is endless, stretching to one side of the sky and back from this side, covering the entire planet.
Then, Mephiston saw time, space, fate, and cause and effect being torn apart. A terrible crack tore the entire planet apart. The attack from the future caused the planet to fall apart and shatter.
As the mountains collapsed and the ground cracked, Mephiston felt as if his will was drawn into one of the fragments.
He saw a huge rock in the forest, half buried in the soil, tilted, with one end tilted towards the deep void.

There seemed to be someone sleeping on top of the boulder, but Mephiston couldn't see clearly.

All I could see was a moss-covered tombstone under the boulder, with two lines of words engraved on it:

"Here lies the king of the forest"

"Once a king, always a king"

In a trance, Mephiston seemed to hear many confessions.

They confessed devoutly and said: The King of the Forest is not dead, but is sleeping at the edge of the world to heal his wounds. When the empire is in danger again, the King of the Forest will return to save mankind, forgive sinners, and punish chaos.

He will rise again, say a thousand confessors.

He never died, say a thousand confessors.

He will return, King of the Woods, say the ten thousand penitents.

This strange prophecy made Mephiston tremble with fear. He didn't know what this prophecy symbolized or represented.
But for the sake of caution, he personally led the Holy Blood Guard and the Think Tank aboard this strange strike cruiser.

The weirdest thing is that it is almost silent here.

The corridor was void of the usual roars, growls, and clashes of weapons that one would hear on a World Eaters ship. Instead, Mephiston could vaguely hear the sound of gurgling water, the rustling of wind through leaves, and the faint sound of birdsong.

There was no smell of blood in the air, but instead a faint fragrance of soil, the bitter smell of crushed grass leaves, and the moldy smell of humus.
It was very strange, as if Mephiston and the others were not standing on a ship in the void, but in the deep forests of a planet.

"Mephiston, you need to look at this." Gaius Lascelles, the second seat of the Blood Angels think tank and one of the few people Mephiston could call a friend. He motioned for Mephiston to look over and look at what he was holding.
It was a piece of vine as thick as a python that had begun to wither, with nutrient-rich black soil still covering it.

But Mephiston did not look at the vine in Gaius's hand, but looked above Gaius' head, at the deep dome of the ship shrouded in darkness.
He perceived something more important there.
The shadow squirmed, and a heavy black shadow fell from the sky, like a dark lightning, and rushed straight towards Gaius who was half-crouching on the ground.

"Beast, forget it." Before Gaius could react, Mephiston whispered coldly.
The powerful psychic force was like an invisible hammer that pressed down on the black shadow, pressing the black shadow heavily against the steel wall, and the wall was deformed under the heavy pressure.

Gaius showed a look of shame, he realized that he had put himself in danger because of his carelessness. He nodded to apologize and thank Mephiston.

Mephiston didn't say much. As old friends, they no longer needed words to express their feelings. He turned to look at the shadow he had pressed against the wall.
It was a grotesque giant beast with a head like a tiger, a body covered with black scales, a sharp spike on its tail, and claws on its limbs, with a venom gland attached to each claw.

Mephiston had never seen such a creature before. Even as the chief think tank of the Blood Angels, he had never seen such a thing.
But his keen perception of the subspace made him realize that these monsters seemed to be distorted products under the influence of the subspace. No. That's not right.
Mephiston stretched out his hand slightly, and the giant beast quickly aged and withered before his eyes, and then disappeared out of thin air.
The same thing happened to the vine in Gaius's hand; it turned into dust and light and disappeared.

Both this behemoth and the vines in Gaius's hand were products of the Warp, but this technology was unheard of by Mephiston.

Bang——————

As the beast disappeared, three shattered bodies fell before Mephiston's eyes, all wearing the power armor of the World Eaters.
Apparently, the reason why the ship was so quiet was because the behemoths devoured the World Eaters and then hid in darkness and shadows.

Mephiston's face looked a little gloomy.
He had initially speculated whether the Chaos traitors on board this ship were playing some kind of Warp sorcery, but now it seemed that what was happening on this ship was more complicated than he had imagined.

Mephiston waved his hand gently, signaling the Holy Blood Guards and Think Tanks around him to follow him closely.

His psychic perception spread into the dark cabin, exploring the surrounding situation like a tentacle.
Mephiston quickly found the origin of the warp fluctuations, but the warp concentration in the ship was rapidly decreasing. It was obvious that the existence that caused the warp fluctuations was leaving.

Mephiston made a gesture, and the other Blood Angels responded with subtle movements.

The team quickly plunged into the darkness of the strike cruiser, heading towards the being that Mephiston had sensed.

The sharp blade broke, and the silver-steel sword in Mephiston's hand shattered reality. Hundreds of thin sword marks passed by, and the beast that looked like a giant lizard in front of him was cut into several pieces under Mephiston's sword, and blood clots were spilled on the ground.
Along the way they encountered several ferocious beasts, each of which was more powerful than the average Astartes.
Fortunately, Mephiston was there, and fortunately, he brought elite troops with him, so they arrived safely at the location that Mephiston perceived was filled with the power of the subspace.

It was an empty cabin, but after entering it, everyone felt like they had arrived in a deep forest.
The cabin was completely covered by layers of trees, and the steel dome was invisible. There was also a thick and sticky layer of humus under their feet, and a deep pit would fall when they stepped on it.
The gurgling stream in the forest polished the boulders in the stream until they were smooth and round, like the eggs of prehistoric monsters.

The Blood Guards and Librarians stepped on these boulders to cross the stream, following closely behind Mephiston.
The further they went, the more they felt their hearts pounding. They smelled danger in the air, and some hallucinations appeared in front of their eyes. It felt like their heads were going to be punched out at any moment.
Finally, they stood beside a large and calm lake, beside which stood a huge rock protruding from the ground.
Mephiston stopped and stared at the boulder with bated breath.

Because he saw, on the huge rocks, among the diffuse clouds,
The lion, the king of the forest, is sleeping on it.
