Chapter 73 Monster in the Dark
After entering the room, Gao Yan quickly went to the study to retrieve the documents he needed.

When she came out again, she saw Yan Shiyu loosening his tie as he walked into the bedroom, while Tang Xu stood in the living room, quietly watching his back.

Gao Yan walked up to Tang Xu and said, "Did you two have a fight?"

Tang Xu smiled gently, "I misspoke."

Gao Yan understood immediately. "Is it because of that Miss Qi? Don't believe those gossip stories; it's all media hype."

"Is that so?" Tang Xu asked in a low voice.

“Really, it was just sending a flower basket and watching a performance, but they made it sound like the two of them were getting engaged tomorrow,” Gao Yan said. “There’s nothing to it.”

Tang Xu understood that this was Gao Yan's good intention. "I understand, thank you."

Gao Yan breathed a sigh of relief, waved with a smile, said goodbye, and quickly left.

Tang Xu watched him leave before turning her gaze toward Yan Shiyu's bedroom.

She was very grateful to Gao Yan for trying to help them solve the problem.

Unfortunately, Gao Yan was unaware that what now stood between them had nothing to do with that Miss Qi.

Tang Xu walked slowly to the bedroom door.

There was no one in the bedroom or walk-in closet; Yan Shiyu should be taking a shower in the bathroom.

She stood quietly at the door for a moment, then turned and went to the bar, found the honey, made a cup of honey water, and brought it back to the coffee table in the living room.

Afterwards, Tang Xu sat quietly on the sofa and waited.

However, Yan Shiyu's bath took far too long, so long that Tang Xu could hardly stand it anymore.

The sound of water falling into the cup startled Tang Xu awake.

She slowly opened her eyes, and after a moment of confusion, she sat up and turned to look at the spot behind her.

Yan Shiyu stood with his back to her, drinking water at the bar.

Tang Xu stood up, reached out and touched the cup of honey water she had just made, and found that it was already cold.

She picked up the glass, walked to the bar, poured out the cooled water, washed the glass, put honey back in, and then poured in warm water.

Yan Shiyu stood beside her, quietly watching her every move.

It wasn't until Tang Xu placed the prepared honey water in front of him that he said, "You drank alcohol tonight, didn't you? Drinking some honey water will make you feel better."

Yan Shiyu had already finished the glass of water in her hand. She put down the glass and her gaze fell on the glass of honey water.

After a long while, he looked up at her again.

Tang Xu was also looking at him, and her almost frozen gaze only flickered slightly when he raised his head.

Then she smiled at him.

"Are you still angry with me?" Tang Xu asked.

Yan Shiyu simply looked at her, without moving or speaking.

Tang Xu lowered her eyes slightly and said, "I came here today to tell you that I'm going to Jiangcheng on a business trip tomorrow and I might stay for about a week."

Yan Shiyu's gaze remained calm, but he finally spoke: "Was it necessary to come all the way here to tell me?"

“We haven’t broken up, of course I had to tell you,” Tang Xu replied, “to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings.”

Upon hearing this, Yan Shiyu gazed at her for a long time before finally extending his hand to her.

Tang Xu placed her hand in his palm, and he pulled her in front of him. She looked up at him and smiled again.

Yan Shiyu raised his hand and gently stroked the corner of her eye.

"Aren't you resentful?" he asked.

Tang Xu gently shook her head, her gaze as clear as if the events of that previous night had never happened.

Yan Shiyu lowered his head and kissed her lips.

Tang Xu readily accepted his kiss, just like before.

The relationship between her and him was never one of equality.

This was Yan Shiyu, someone she knew completely.

She didn't know how to react until he reached out and touched her lips.

"Aren't you supposed to be going on a business trip tomorrow?" he said. "Let's go back."

Yan Shiyu, however, had already started walking towards the bathroom.

Tang Xu leaned against the bar and stood there quietly for a long time, but nothing happened.

She couldn't resist going over to him, and when she knocked on the door to ask if he was alright, the bathroom door finally opened again.

Yan Shiyu came out from inside.

He had already showered, and his hair was still damp, but now the dampness was even more noticeable, and there was a faint redness around his eyes—

Tang Xu stared at him for a moment, then finally turned and left without lingering.

Yan Shiyu stood still until he heard the elevator descending. Only then did he slowly close his eyes and realize that his hands were trembling uncontrollably.

He raised that hand in front of his eyes, and after a long while, he finally turned around and walked towards a room with the door tightly closed.

Pushing open the door, the room was pitch black, with a machine with many wires placed in the corner.

Yan Shiyu stood at the door for a long time before finally going inside and closing the door tightly.

In the darkness, he connected the threads to himself one by one.

Like a monster.
