His tone was calm, but the questions he asked were so cruel, almost striking straight to the soul.

Even though Tang Xu's soul had been tempered and refined through countless trials, it still couldn't help but tremble at this moment.

It's not that I can't answer his question.

Rather, they were afraid to answer.

Because she understood what he meant.

She understood what he wanted.

She lay there quietly, fully aware that she couldn't say anything more.

He has worked so hard to get to where he is today, and he has arranged everything perfectly. How can he allow any accidents to happen?
Especially regarding her—he thought he had already arranged everything, he thought he could give her back a quiet and peaceful life, he thought she could live freely and carefree in a future without him.

But now, all of that has been shattered.

Instead of making proper arrangements for her, he dragged her into an even more painful abyss.

Even someone as powerful as Yan Shiyu couldn't accept such a cruel arrangement.

So he wasn't asking her for an answer.

He was questioning her, but he was also questioning himself.

He needed anger, he needed to vent, he needed relief...

The only thing I don't need is... love.

Such a thing would only impose endless constraints on him at times like these.

Tang Xu gently closed her eyes.

"Speechless?"

Yan Shiyu finally raised her head and looked at the person lying on the bed. Her voice carried an extremely light and self-deprecating smile, yet also a sense of satisfaction.

Then, he slowly stood up, and at the same time, he looked away from her.

It felt as if looking at it one more time would lead to making a decision I would later regret.

“Live your own life well,” he said. “Stop deceiving yourself.”

After saying this, Yan Shiyu slowly turned and walked towards the door of the room.

"Have."

Tang Xu's voice rang out once again.

Yan Shiyu suddenly stopped in his tracks.

"I actually have so much more to say, but it's too long, and I need time to organize it." Tang Xu's voice was extremely calm. "Whenever you want to hear it, I'll tell you slowly."

Yan Shiyu stood stiffly at the door, lingering for a long time before finally opening the door and leaving without looking back.

Tang Xu remained lying there, listening to the door close, to his footsteps gradually receding, and then to the sound of the front door opening and closing.

She gently closed her eyes, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

In the end, Tang Xu simply raised her hand and gently wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes.

Then came another sound, an unusual doorbell ring.

The person who came must have been really anxious, because he played Bouté's "Clair de Lune" in such a frantic manner.

Tang Xu was in a daze for a moment before finally sitting up from the bed, walking slowly to the door, opening the door, and seeing Duan Siwei standing outside.

"What are you doing?" Duan Siwei questioned her almost abruptly upon seeing her. "Why did he leave? How could you let him leave at a time like this?"

Tang Xu swayed slightly, not lingering at the door, but turning and walking towards the living room. Finally, she sat down on the sofa and softly answered his question: "That was his choice. I couldn't stop him."

"Couldn't stop him?" Duan Siwei was furious. "You know perfectly well that if there's anyone in this world who could stop him, it's you. But now you're telling me you couldn't? Did you even try? Did you really stop him?"

Tang Xu, leaning on the sofa armrest, sat ramrod straight due to the pain in her shoulder. Hearing Duan Siwei's questioning, she ultimately only answered truthfully, "No." Duan Siwei's eyes almost spit fire. "Do you know what he might do in his current state? He's giving up everything he cares about, giving up everything he's dreamed of, cutting off all his escape routes—if he accomplishes what he wants to do this way, he'll be utterly ruined! Don't you realize that? Is this the ending you want to see?"

Tang Xu remained silent for a long time before answering truthfully, "I know."

"Tang Xu!" Duan Siwei glared at her. "What are you thinking? You've kept all your memories intact until now, just to watch him die?"

Tang Xu lowered her eyes slightly, and tears finally streamed down her face uncontrollably once again.

"If I could cure him, things wouldn't have come to this," Tang Xu said softly. "Duan Siwei, I'm powerless, you know that?"

"I don't know!" Duan Siwei was still angry. "What do you mean by 'powerless'? How could you be powerless? Tell him you need him, tell him you want him to stay, tell him you don't want him to do those things, is that so hard?!"

Tang Xu gently closed her eyes.

"Yes, it's not hard to say it." Her voice finally choked up. "But I can't say it."

She wanted him to know how she felt, so she told him.

Even if it's just a short sentence.

But how could someone like him not understand?

He knows everything.

But in this situation, he was unwilling to accept it.

She couldn't say anything more.

Because she knew perfectly well that continuing the discussion in such detail and offering so-called "answers" would only drive him to another painful extreme—

From childhood to adulthood, he has experienced far too many extremes and endured far too much suffering.

Her feigned amnesia, yet her revelation of it in front of him, has already amplified and deepened his pain once again.

She couldn't bring herself to do anything more to him.

Only by fulfilling this wish can we achieve our goal.

Love is certainly the best reason.

But this shouldn't be a time to bind him.

“I said I would support him, and I will support him to the end,” Tang Xu said. “I will support all his decisions.”

"Support? In what way?" Duan Siwei asked. "Support him in courting his own death?"

"For him, was it a dead end or a way out...? How could you and I possibly know?" Tang Xu said softly.

Duan Siwei was taken aback, momentarily at a loss for words. Yet, he was anxious and could only pace back and forth, his words turning into unconscious mutterings: "There's always a way, there's always a way to think of. You shouldn't have let him go like this... How could you just let him go like this?"

Tang Xu could no longer answer his question and could only sit there quietly.

In the end, Duan Siwei couldn't stay any longer, so he turned around and left to figure out a solution on his own.

Tang Xu was left alone in the empty house, sitting there listlessly.

She didn't know if he would ever come back.

If he comes back, she will wait, she will wait forever.

If he never comes back...

That might mean... he went back.

Go back to a time without pain, go back to a place without pain.

If that's the case...

That would be excellent.

Isn't that right? (End of Chapter)
