Chapter 423 Freedom
“I don’t need to say anything to her,” Yan Shiyu said. “She was going to leave anyway.”

Tang Xu said, "But she came to see Ji Shiqing, and left without even exchanging two words?"

Yan Shiyu stood up and said, "That's enough. Anything more will only make us both uncomfortable."

Tang Xu paused for a moment, glanced inside, and then walked up to Yan Shiyu, saying softly, "What if Ji Shiqing is being sarcastic?"

“Whether he was being sarcastic or not, this is all Yan Yi can give him,” Yan Shiyu said. “It’s better to wake up sooner rather than later, so he doesn’t have to hold onto those unrealistic expectations.”

Hearing his tone, Tang Xu couldn't help but feel a little sad.

"But...why?" she couldn't help but ask. "Since she was willing to come see him and even let you take care of him, it means she cared about this child. But why could she leave so easily and calmly?"

“This is Yan Yi,” Yan Shiyu said. “She loves others more than she loves herself, and she does so with a clear conscience and without any guilt.”

Although it was Tang Xu's first time meeting Yan Yi, from her behavior to Yan Shiyu's evaluation of her, she felt as if she could see Yan Yi from so many years ago.

The words "justified and with a clear conscience" had a great impact on Tang Xu.

Are there really people in the world who can live such a carefree and unrestrained life? Don't they have any psychological burden at all?

Seeing Tang Xu's somewhat dazed expression, Yan Shiyu simply reached out and gently stroked her face, saying, "I'll take Ji Shiqing back first. You should get some rest. I'll come back tomorrow night."

Tang Xu regained her senses and nodded gently.

Soon Yan Shiyu reached the door of the inner room, raised her hand and knocked, "Ji Shiqing, come out."

There was no response from inside, but about half a minute later, the door opened gently.

Ji Shiqing stood behind the door, his gaze towards Yan Shiyu somewhat complicated.

It seems he opened the door because his fear of Yan Shiyu prevailed, but who knows if he had any other thoughts in mind?

Unfortunately, Yan Shiyu didn't leave him any room for fantasy or struggle, and said bluntly, "She's gone, you can go back now."

A moment of surprise flashed across Ji Shiqing's eyes, but it quickly turned into an overly relaxed expression.

He shrugged, let out a breath, and said, "That's great. Next time she comes back, could you give me a heads-up? I don't like these surprise attacks."

Yan Shiyu glanced at him only once before turning and leaving.

Ji Shiqing followed him slowly out and stood in the living room, still unable to resist looking around.

After scanning the area, his gaze finally settled on the takeout food on the table that had only been slightly touched.

Seeing his gaze, Tang Xu couldn't bear it any longer and asked, "Weren't you hungry just now? Why don't you eat something before you go back?"

"No need." Ji Shiqing looked at Tang Xu and smiled again. "It's already late, so I won't bother you any longer. If I stay any longer, my uncle might beat me up. I'll be going now, goodbye sister."

After saying that, he quickly looked away, grabbed his coat, and obediently walked past Yan Shiyu and left.

Yan Shiyu and Tang Xu exchanged another glance before Yan Shiyu also left.

This was the first time Tang Xu had seen Ji Shiqing leave so obediently, and she couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. When she turned around, she found that Song Luobai had also come out of the room. After glancing at the empty living room, Song Luobai went straight to the bathroom.

When he came out of the bathroom, Tang Xu was cleaning up the takeout on the dining table.

Song Luobai glanced at it and said, "I wonder who it was that ordered food to eat at someone else's house and then just left it here after they finished eating?"

Tang Xu didn't say anything, but she couldn't help asking, "Did Ji Shiqing say anything to you?"

“What could he possibly say to me?” Song Luobai said. “I’m not even familiar with him.”

Upon hearing this, Tang Xu didn't ask any more questions. Song Luobai didn't turn around and leave either. Instead, he came forward to help Tang Xu clean up, and then carried the trash downstairs himself.

Tang Xu breathed a slight sigh of relief. He went back upstairs to his room and lay on the bed. He couldn't help but think about Yan Shiyu's evaluation of Yan Yi. He couldn't calm down for a long time.

……

The following evening, Yan Shiyu arrived as promised.

As usual, he bought groceries, washed and cleaned, and prepared to cook for himself. Tang Xu skillfully helped him tie his apron, but couldn't help asking again, "So, how long does Miss Yan plan to stay this time? Will she go see Ji Shiqing again?"

“No,” Yan Shiyu replied, “She’s already gone.”

"Gone?" Tang Xu was momentarily stunned. "Where did they go?"

"The place where she used to be."

"She left so soon?" Tang Xu was even more confused upon hearing this. "She should have just returned. Did she really only see Ji Shiqing once before leaving?"

"Isn't that why she came back?"

Tang Xu suddenly turned her head to look at him, and asked with some suspicion, "Did you ask her to leave?"

Yan Shiyu met her gaze and asked in return, "Where does this inference come from?"

“You’re unhappy to see her, and you’re unhappy that she came here, so you want her to leave,” Tang Xu said.

Yan Shiyu said, "If Yan Yi were someone who could live according to other people's arrangements, then today, I'm afraid many things would be different."

Hearing his tone, Tang Xu knew he wasn't lying to her.

"When did she leave?"

"My flight is early this morning."

Tang Xu was once again shocked.

"So, for her, Ji Shiqing was really just someone she could glance at?"

“I’ve said it before, she can’t give Ji Shiqing anything more,” Yan Shiyu said.

Tang Xu was stunned for a moment, then involuntarily let out a long breath.

To be honest, this was a life she had never imagined.

It seems that nothing and no one can bind her, and she has probably never set limits for her life. She seems to always be herself, willful and free enough, without any worries.

Even though she gave birth to her child at a very young age, she was never bound by the identity of a mother. It seemed that the child's condition had nothing to do with her. She remained completely herself and only needed to live her own life.

As for the children, they can even be completely left to others.

Even if she has never fulfilled her responsibilities as a mother, she can still act like an innocent little girl when facing her child.

"Can a person really be this free?" Tang Xu couldn't help but murmur to himself.

Yan Shiyu's knife suddenly paused for a moment.

“Yan Yi is not a normal person,” Yan Shiyu said, “but this way of being a person is not entirely unacceptable.”

"How so?" Tang Xu couldn't help but ask.

Yan Shiyu put down what he was holding and turned to look at her. "Carrying too much on your shoulders will be tiring. Letting go of some things and being a little selfish will make things much easier."

Tang Xu stared at him quietly for a moment, then suddenly chuckled softly, "Are you saying this to yourself?"

“No, I’m saying this for you,” Yan Shiyu said.

Tang Xu paused for a moment, then said, "Why are you telling me? I'm not carrying anything on my back."

She lowered her eyes slightly, but the next moment, Yan Shiyu bent down and met her gaze once again.

"Regardless of what you're carrying or not, I hope you can live a little more freely."

A myriad of emotions surged within Tang Xu, and she asked him, "Am I not free enough?"

Yan Shiyu did not answer her question, but simply said, "Then, let's have more freedom."

Tang Xu met his gaze in a daze, and after a moment, she simply smiled slowly.
